- Cult horror film from 1960 directed by the legendary William Castle.
The only other version of this on UA-cam has a Spanish dub underneath the original English audio, which makes both languages somewhat difficult to understand, so here's the movie with just the original audio.
NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED.
Despite a lack of gore and violence, what these B&W spook movies from the early-'60s had going for them was atmosphere -- creepy, ghostly, and strangely innocent. It was the cold war/PSYCHO/JFK/end-of-the-world era where all you had to do was turn the camera on --- when even Opie losing his baseball in the haunted murder mansion on the edge of Mayberry was bottomlessly creepy despite being absurdly comedic. No, William Castle was no Hitchcock, but the original 13 GHOSTS is kind of like a small Halloween party you're invited to where not all the pranks come off but you're glad you went anyway.
the effects in this were really confusing, they were so slow and so clearly camera effects it made the whole thing just plain strange rather than scary, unlike the remake. i love both movies though.
Always wished I could experience the mindset of the average person in the 1960s. The world must've felt so much more mysterious and magical in a way. Now we just know too much about everything to the point of boredom and depression.
Oh well, I guess I'll just watch this movie and do my best to pretend like it's 1960.😱😱😱
Ikr. I wonder to.
Same here🥴
I can tell you. I was about 9 years old in the 60s when i watched this movie. I found this movie mesmerizing and totally lost myself in it. I contrast that experience, simple production and effects….black & white, to today’s miracles of animation. Nothing today makes me feel like this movie did then. I’m in my 60s now. Can’t wait to watch it again!
People were depressed then too. I think it's more about seeing the world thru a child's eyes, it's always magical, no matter the decade or the special effects.
I was born in 1960….and yes, the world was mysterious and fascinating back then, especially to a young child.
Great fun flick. I was 12 yrs old when I went to see this in 1960. Loved every minute of it. Real scary in those days. The new version stinks. Cannot even be compared to this one with its class.
are u still alive sir??😅
666 views? Spooky.
I've always loved this movie. While many people dabate it's overall quality, I've always felt that 13 ghosts truely captures the spirt of halloween perfectly: spooky, yet playful and fun. I watch it evey year for halloween!
the number of the beast is 616 as it happens.
Thanks for putting this on UA-cam. I loved the 2001 13 ghosts, and house on haunted hill.
it's interesting at 1:36 when the music transitions to the love theme; entities are still screaming. I always liked this part.
I saw this when it came out. I was a little boy , a scared little boy . We had to wear special glasses in order to see the ghosts.
Thanks for the upload. I'm a big fan of the remake and haven't seen the original so thanks heaps👍
I believe I watched this movie in 1962, at that time this was a fine horror movie, I liked it then and still like it now, these movies now may appear simple, but back then it was the best and you got really scared, not like today, when all you have is blood every where and other things that has nothing to do with thriller. Old movies are great.
They truly are, fine person. They truly are
Love this movie. Thanks for sharing. Classic.
God, thanks for posting this. Been looking for it for years
is this the viewer version? Loved this as a kid but never seen the viewer version and it is hard to find now and expensive. would love to see a colorized version of this with the illusion-o special effects still in.
But the new one did have some great make-up for those ghosts. And at the very least, I knew all of the new ghosts' backstories. I mean, who WAS the flaming skeleton?
@OfShadowandSubstance Quality? You have to remember this was made in 1960, what the hell do you expect? All I know is that this movie scared the hell out of me back then.
I just crapped my pants watching the intro!
Loved this theme so Erie creepy love it.
Believe me there are ghosts, the world is more mysterious than you think.
Why can't movies start like this sometimes? Hahaha Fun.
i once had to animate some splashes for at title sequence, it's a lot harder to do than it would appear, i love this title sequence, and what a weird film, the remake has about the best production design of a horror movie, and a great storyline, if you haven't make sure you see it.
I didn't even know there was a 1960 version. why isn't it on netflix? also I hope someone puts up the newer version. I want to compare the 2.
wheres parts 3,4
Bill Castle was THE master of ballyhoo!
True, true. I'm aware very well of the line "if it's not broken, don't fix it". But I personally, honestly think the new movie at least had some salvageable details. Don't get me wrong, it's ridiculous, but I at least watch it when nothing's on
The intro is scary.
EXCITED!!! Can't wait for the rest!
1960 this is looks awesome!! and scary!
Great movie!
Dr Paul Bearer as a kid had the Creature Feature hour and 1966 kid who was there fir Star wars, probably why such a X-Files nut.
WHERE ARE PARTS 3 AND 4?????/
The old 3D glasses gave a horrible headache.

Number 10 looks like Eddie from Iron Maiden. He must have been an actor before he was their mascot. lol
I think number ten is a lion, sure looks like it
to bad this isnt a complete upload
Wth was that? A seance birthday cake? Sheesh!
did... Did the dude just straight up spanked her so she would get up??!
I think the new version is SO MUCH better. This one to me is stupid. The new one is so much better.
This one is simpler, and from another time, yes, but what makes it "stupid" as compare to the gory newer version?
That's funny, I feel like the more modern movies are kinda stupid.
anything with
Milner is worth watching
4:53 "Madmen" shit; even then decent guys knew better than to touch a woman they weren't married to. I remember this movie; it really had an impact at the time.
