Wow, thank you Jun! That is incredibly humbling coming from you because you are such a talented builder and video maker. I really appreciate your kind words my friend.
@@BigSkyModelWorkshop thanks pal, I appreciate it. I was very hesitant to start narration at the start of this year but so far the feedback has been mostly positive. Hopefully it helps another modeler.
You may already know this but if you want to keep from getting bleed thru when painting stripes, once you've taped off the stripes first lay down a clear gloss coat and lay it down with your airbrush just as if you were painting the gold stripes. It creates a barrier between the tape and the body and helps stop bleed thru when painting the actual stripe color. Hopefully you get what i'm trying to say. You are a excellent modeler and I enjoyed watching your video.
Great video! I appreciate the clear well-lit camera shots and clear narration. I grew up with Fords and the color you chose for the engine looks most like what I would see when my dad was working on them. Usually I see people paint their Ford engines way too vibrant or deep a blue. I wish kit manufacturers would keep the body on the sprues instead of cutting them off at the factory. I have opened kits that had significant gouges, including major parts of panels cut off due to the person in the factory being too aggressive with their cuts.
Thanks for checking it out, I'm glad to know I guessed close on the engine color. Luckily with my fix to the rocker panel it's not too obvious those giant chunks were filled, at least it was on a low part of the car your eye is not immediately drawn to I guess.
I miss building models .I moved across country to arizona 😢 had a full model car workshop with paint booth area separate huge basement.now I have just a small room😢 everything packed up
Congratulations on the work, a tip, I usually reinforce the glued corners internally with micropore adhesive and CA glue, which reinforces the union and prevents it from coming loose during assembly.
That was great! You can never go wrong with black on a muscle car interior… In the absence of kit decals for interior details and badging, I’ll try to either use photoetch from Model Car Garage or decal sets from Keith Marks or Ray’s Kit Decals. Whenever I try to paint badges or scripts, it looks like I finger painted them during a withering artillery barrage.
I’ll tell you what, this build you did is amazing, the decals are extremely hard to place, so painting them was a great idea, and you used a great technique. Yes Lin is a great model builder but I’m subscribing to your channel, cause I love how you specified all your ratios of paint to thinner, and because you are also an amazing builder. thank you, I appreciate it!!
Thank you for those kind words, you're far too generous. I am glad the effort to include that information didn't go unnoticed and hopefully was helpful to you. I've been debating for a while continuing to do that or not, but I think I will based on comments like this.
Yw. Yes it’s very helpful at least for me who’s starting out with airbrushing and I find getting the right ratio of thinner and paint is a challenge. Thanks again!
I love your color choice here, given that some of those Hertz cars did come in different colors. When I built this very same kit two years ago, I found there was one decal on this car that shriveled up on me, and that was the one between the bottom of the grille and the front bumper. I also had to order a grille from Revell because for whatever reason it was left off the sprue in my example. I built the standard GT350 about 30 years ago and I painted on the stripes with that particular build, and since these stripes aren't as complicated as others can be, I think it's actually a good idea to do so. On the first build I actually painted the logo on the grille too! Seems I was a bit braver when I was younger.
Nice stang I have the same kit... I learned a long time ago to place decals on a multi curved surface to cut it in multiple areas then apply to the panel to avoid the wrinkling
@@scaleffect NP Brotha..... My rule of thumb was to break it down to how many faces and/or angles the area is being decaled and cut the decal for each face and leave it very wet.... Then after they are all placed just slide each faces decal till they all lineup..... Be patient & it will work great..... Be very careful of your clearcoating over those areas.... Use very light coats to keep the edges from moving till clear is fully cured
It looks pretty good! Fortunately you didn't give up... I would probably stop the build after what happened with the decals but you didn't.. well done!
Well that turned out great. I gave up on the stripes on mine after the second painjob, i just wanted to be done. Kudos to you for pushing through! Great results✌️👍
No, those decals were a pain! I think you did an admirable job at applying them! Blue tape is dangerous! It WILL remove decals when you don't want them removed as well!
Hi there. Just wan5 to say that I really enjoyed your video. It was pleasant to follow you along and see how you did. I have to say I much prefer your open hones build method, the mistakes along the way, what you found challenging, what you found to make things easier. This was much better than the super professional guys I watch like PLASMO. Don’t get me wrong they are good for teaching techniques, but they do a lot of upgrades. Thanks again. Oh and as a figure painter, they tricolour for the mustang symbol. Paint the white in the centre fist. Then either edge the red and blue leaving the white or cut a 1 mm mask strip in half lay it then do the red and blue edge colours. Easier than trying the white after the red and blue. Will be a subscriber and keen to see more of your work.
Thanks for checking out and glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate the tip on the emblem too. Glad to know my mistakes are helpful for others; I am still learning in this hobby, I have not even hit 3 years of building models yet, so the mistakes will continue to happen because that's how I learn :)
@@scaleffect Hey mate, no problem. I am coming back into model building after 20 years. Things have changed, youtube for one! I have built two over the last 2 years..... a P38 and BMW i8. Happy to send you some pics if you have an email address. Keep up the builds, will happily follow along as i delve back into the hobby. Cheers
Thank you, a bit challenging but probably the best fitting car I've built so far. The first two I tried were AMT brand and proved more difficult for me.
Thank you! Wow that is steep, but Monogram and now Revell has re-produced this kit in many versions, so maybe you can locate another boxing of it for a better price.
Really enjoyed the video. Lots of great tips and techniques mentioned in it. I had very similar issues with my gt350h as well. You did the most important part... you continued on. Keep up the great work my friend.
The lowering technique worked out great, I did not think of it that way I learned something new.Painting the strip's was a great idea I've seen others that do the same with this kit. The color for the body looks very similar to to the Bullitt 68 Mustang looks awesome. Different to the Black looks awesome.Cheers
First time to your channel. This was a great video. Flowed very well. Now I’m subscribed and will go back and see your other videos. (Hope there’s more cars)
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. You will find a couple more car builds, like my older video of the 1970 Corvette, and a Dodge Challenger and VW Beetle from this year. The next car video will be a Porsche 962C, hopefully sometime in September.
That turned out awesome!! Great work. Enjoyed seeing the build process as well. The painted stripes turned out excellent and I love your color combo. Really nice build.
Beautiful build you pushed through it considering the paint issues at the end your build turned out pretty nice new subscriber here greetings from Ireland 👍👍🏆
Great finish and well done pushing through the issues. Rapid thinners are recommended for metallics, and is all I use now for them. Just found channel and subbed. 😊
I want to build more cars in the future. Great video. What type of floppy brush are you using when you do a final dusting before primer? It looks like a cross between a feather duster and a paint brush that is gentle on the surface.
Tamiya anti-static brush. Helps prevent dust in the paint. I use it before primer, before paint, and before clear, but not between coats of each unless it's fully dried.
Hi, You did a very nice job on your build! I'm not sure how accurate You were trying to be but, the emblems on the side should have been sanded off Shelby's don't have those. Sorry not trying to be too picky.
The ones with the colored collars are PCB metric drill bits I purchased on Amazon. The #80 drill bit comes from a set I've had since I was a kid, I purchased them at a model train store, but I believe MicroMark sells the set. It's like #60-#80 drill bits.
Despite the issues you run into, turned out beautiful, I love the painted on stripes, I built this kit years back and had same concerns with decals even after cutting relief points, color and paint looks great love the build great video!!
Beautiful Mustang. And excellent video production! I’ve enjoyed every second of it. Thank you very much for sharing.👍
