I really hope you continue this show. It's absolutely incredible with amazing animation all-throughout and incredible writing. Everyone that worked on this went all out and it really shows!
I haven't started S1 yet, but if this reaction begins to pick up steam, I will continue it. I need to pick and choose series I enjoy but the ones that actually do decent on the channel. Basically, I need to cover what I enjoy and what the majority wants to see. If anything, it could be a Patreon exclusive for a while before trying it here again.

What i really respect about the early season 1 episodes (outside of... mostly everything about this show) is the fact the DBK family aren't trying to one up one another. They know that DBK himself will be the all conquer of this world and they will help in any which way. Not to mention the devotion of them accepting defeat and not at each other's throats that they failed. A family dynamic that's rare in villains.

So uh,bit of a context. -The OG Pigsy & Sandy were members of the celestial army who were banished as a punishment.Their names were Marshall of the Heavenly Canopy/Tian Peng and Curtain Lifting General.While Pigsy deserves his penance because he...seduced & trapped Chang Er,Sandy got it really bad cause all he did was breaking a vase.And for that,he's turned in to a water demon with blue,scaly skin that has to endure many sadistic torture every 7 days while having to live off human flesh,because there's nothing else to eat in Flowing Sands river.While this show's Pigsy is fortunately not like his ancestor,Sandy/Sha Dali is pretty much like his ancestor Sha Wujing.Both are menacing demons who is actually very nice,polite and wise, and also loose canons that can solo an army if they wanted to,but rarely involved in the important fights. -Mei's ancestor was punished by the Jade Emperor because his rage burned an entire castle,and with it a gift from the Jade Emperor.That's why they made her so careless about her fiery powers. -And somebody that has read the book said that Wukong's vision is actually pretty bad.And that's because he was boiled in Laotzu's Trigram furnace to extract the immortality elixirs that he stole.He didn't die,but his black eyes turned shining red/gold like fire as a result.You can even see how they glow everytime Wukong is in the dark in the show.He can see the true forms of things,but his actual vision is bad.As a matter of fact,smoke is his weakness now.Maybe that's why MK was panicking when everything turned gold.Because fiery gold vision is another form of vision,his normally functioning vision is overrode. -DBK's wife was a celestial maiden in this show,but if I'm not wrong,she's a Rakshasi (Rakshasas are man-eating creatures,basically.They're usually villains) in the original story.So all of them are demons. -The mech is surprisingly inspired by one of Wukong's actual powers,I think.When he was trapped by a magical rope,he turned his staff into another object,which is a file to cut through the rope. -Both Monkey King and DBK knows 72 transformations,which not only include animals,but also plants.The initial reason was because their type of immortality is outlawed by heavens (yes,heavens is very bureaucratic in JTTW),so it helps them to escape penance.
I found it so cool that Monkie Kid and one of my favorite shows, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was animated by the same studio! 🤩 Absolute spectacular quality animation! 👍
Agreed! I even heard that animation studio is working on an animated "Stranger Things" series, AND they'll have have a hand in working on an animated "Avatar: Last Airbender" movie. Given their track record with "Monkie Kid' and "ROTTMNT", I know they'll be great!
You're in for a ride with "Monkie Kid"! It acts as a modern sequel to the original "Journey to the West" story, so there'll be a lot of connections to it.
The “ages 8 and up” line is because they’re all LEGOs, a kids’ toy (Red Son’s line about having a vehicle with different forms is also a reference to LEGO sets, with the paper he holds up being a page from a LEGO set instructions packet)

The bit where MK says that the jet is for ages 8 and up, I'd a joke relating to the fact that the toy is marketed for that age range. This pilot special is amazing. I don't think season 1 or 2 are as good as this special, but they are still fun. Season 3 is when things get great again imo.
