Sorry to keep bothering, but I was wondering if you do mixing and/or mastering services? I made a track sometime ago and submitted it to a singer who was definitely waaay out of my league in popularity. To my surprise he loved the track agreed to record vocals on it. The vocals finally came through and everything sounds perfect and ready to be mixed in, but I feel like my creative momentum on this track is pretty darn shot. I just really wanna mix in these vocals perfectly and knowing how excellent your work is, I was wondering if you would be interested in taking a listen. I would definitely offer pay so it'd be worth your time. If not I completely understand!

Hey man, knowing how experienced you are I was wondering if you could give a recommendation on something. I feel the quality of my sennheiser hd 380 pro headphones I use for mixing have faded after have been using them for almost 3 years. They've been a great reference for learning, but it feels time for a more serious upgrade to expand my perspective of sound. I'm looking to throw maybe 200ish down on new pair. The feel I'm going for is over-the-ear mixing headsets that have a very large frequency range, great / honest dynamics, present sub lows, rich mids, nice harsh free highs, and a rich / honest stereo feel for accurate mixing. Haha sorry if that was a bit specific, i was just wondering if any recommendations came to mind! Thanks!
Hi James, honestly man if you're talking about mixing you want to look at speakers/monitors. Mixing on headphones will never be an accurate reference. You want to be able to have your mixes sound great on all platforms whether it's big speakers, computer speakers, mobile phone speakers, earbuds or headphones. All headphones are colored in a way that only sounds wonderful in that environment. Where monitors are telling you how your mix sounds in a space/room. My suggestion is that you get some decent speakers that aren't hyped up in the low end or high end. You want them pretty flat/neutral. Mix at a low volume so you can hear how your song truly feels sonically at all levels. If you really want to use headphones for mixing, then I suggest a pair of open back headphones so you are still getting the sound of your room influencing what you hear. For that, I recommend AkGs. Specifically the Quincy Jones signature series. They're great!
Sweet thanks man! Yeah this really helps put things into a better perspective, I actually snagged some vintage yamaha NS-10M Pro's that seem to have a great honest sound. Doing some research I found they were an industry standard in the 80s. However being older speakers they lack the presence in the lower mids and lows that i need as a reference if I'm going to be working with sub frequency dominant hip hop music. The plan was to use the new headphones for production, and then when I'm ready to mix I'd toggle between my headphones, speakers, and car sound system that has sub woofers while comparing it to the reference track. I do minimal mixing with my headphones as I produce, but I would actually use the new headphones mainly for production. Would that same model you recommended be what you would recommend for production too?
+James Logan hmmm... Yeah you might want a closed back pair then. Either way though, I recommend AKG headphones. I find they sound the best. However, it's my opinion. You should try a bunch out.
