5:29 Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc (bronze is with tin or aluminum), so the copper and zinc are CHEMICALLY BONDED so they cannot be separated except with strong chemicals and high temperatures
Brass is copper and zinc.. They use brass in door handles because Copper and its alloys, such as brass, bronze and copper-nickel, are inherently antimicrobial. When cleaned regularly, frequently touched surfaces manufactured from uncoated copper alloy materials will continuously kill bacteria that cause infections.
I used to scrap No way to the extent that you do. It was mainly all different sizes of electrical wire Being that I'm a electrician. Loved the videos keep it up man
Finally some more scrap! My latest light job has been epic. Over 80% * double copper transformers out of ~300 lights . 290 more to go! And pulled 920$ out of a single mobile MrI trailer in 5 hours! All copper wire and copper pipe! Brass stainless wtc
It’s sad that so many LEDs are coming down and ending up in my pickups. They make them where you can’t service them. Like the screw that chew up and bit that hits them! Cheap china stainless steel😂
@@ProjectShopFl not mobile home Mobile MRI tractor trailer! It like a hospital room on wheels! Miles of wire and all copper wire because they have to power a MrI machine! Massive AC units on outside. And if I can get a trailer big enough the MRI ‘s weigh 12-20000 pounds. The old models are stainless steel with a beryllium copper coils running through them or something!
Hey man love watching your videos. I am a scrapper in Houston Tx and I have scraped tons of lights and the other day I came across some with a plastic housing, first for me!!!
Glad you pulled the air chisel out. A very underestimated tool. The air sheet metal cutter is awesome for rip downs. Awesome as usual D catch you in the next episode brother
The metal spring over the copper pipe at the 14 minute mark you were curious about, is so when you bend the copper lineset, it won't kink as easily. It's found in ductless split air conditioner heads
Copper and zing brass . Melt together for and casting . If you melt copper with aluminum, it will be extremely brittle, like drop on concrete a couple feet and it shatters . Don’t ask how I know .
I would not mind doing something like that, but it would be something I do in the other side of my garage. Right now, I have about 55pounds of copper that I have saved up and about 150 pounds of coated power chords too small to go through my electric stripper. Mine is a side gig not my actual job. I like being able to wear a suit to work.
Yes brass is made from copper and some form of aluminum what I was always told when I sold brass is it could have some copper on it and I don't downgrade your load but that's here in Indiana
Welcome to my world tons of work trash everywhere minimal reward, that easy money was the old world we are in the new world now we have to adapt/evolve to survive
@30:00 wondering if that plasma welder / cutter would be faster at cutting the tips of the screws and that plate on the back. As for the screws, maybe it's some kind of Japanese standard screw or something slightly off?
To separate zinc and copper from brass takes a chemical reaction. Not worth the time, hassle or money for a small shop. Then there is the equipment to do it, dealing with the waste, and the list goes on. Sell it as is to the yard unless you really want the headaches in addition to losing money.
The jaw, hatchet and air chisel are your best friends in the shop for micro scrapping and they take no prisoners. LoL. Steve loves that air chisel. That outdoor light above your garage door lights up the whole block. Haha. Bright mf'er. Nice that you can work out there at night and see wtf you're doing. Have a great day Derek!
So are the bodies aluminum and the plates are lead??. i would think your still making money at .15 a lb. here in central VA we get .50 a lb for extruded aluminum.
What are they paying you on NO 1 right now. I’m getting $3.88 but might have another yard I’ve never been too. One of my contractors got quoted $4.10 a pound!!
Hi I’d like to start a business like yours in a few years and I was wondering if you would be able to withstand like 2 months down hypothetically or if the cost of the rent and electrical is just too much. What do u think is like ur max downtime u could withstand?
Try not to put rubber etc in your crucible as it will mess it up and the fumes are very toxic.
Thanks for the suggestion

So many beads in that thing! Found this so relaxing to watch this morning. Yes the melted brass will just have a higher copper content👍
Glad you enjoyed it.

Thats awesome, I did not think a mobile home would have that much money in them.
They are not as great as people think.

I read somewhere copper might hit 15 a lbs I the shortage get any worse.
That would be awesome

I had a bit that fit them they were just seized and broke a few bits right off the bat.

Thanks, at one time I had pallets of the lights new in the box. Bought them for $15 a pice. lol
To recover the heads just put the stuff in a bucket of water the metal goes to the bottom
Thanks for the suggestion
Really nice scrap bro 😉
Thanks!
$5.56/lb on 1a bare bright copper in Canadian dollar today... .60/lb on cast and .98 on Extrusion.
Thanks for sharing
Do you thing the wide head chisel would take them off quicker?
I did not want to catch too many screws at once.
So are the bodies aluminum and the plates are lead??. i would think your still making money at .15 a lb. here in central VA we get .50 a lb for extruded aluminum.
The bodies are cast aluminum and the plates are sheet al and copper but have plastic that has to come off. Cast and sheet are .65 and EX is .75
Micro scraping makes money and pays the bills 2
I got some micro scrapping coming
You need a double roller shredder and figure out a way to seperate the shredded remains
I've been wanting one. lol It's on the wish list.
If you add copper to yellow brass, you basically are making red brass....
Thanks for the info.

Around $4 I was quoted 4.10 but they only paid 4 so I'm going back to my old yard.

The rent at my current location is too high, also your customers will go somewhere else if you are down for 2 months.
