When Colin announces the engagement in the garden and we see Violet looking at him and Marina, you can see a small flicker of her eyes in the direction Penelope is standing. But what always stood out to me is that Anthony and Benedict are int he background and both look at each other before Anthony actually turns his head (not just eyes) in Penelope's direction and he looks upset before he rushes up to talk to Violet. Anthony knows for sure.
Something interesting too is that at that first ball, when Portia is on the upper level with other married ladies, she watches Penelope on the sidelines looking sad as she watches Colin dance, eyes glued to him. So absolutely Portia knows Penelope has a tendre for Colin.
Yess exactly this the head tilts are so cute and exclusive for Penelope. I have seen the head tilts to much do everytime he in in a scene i do the whole time those head tilts🤣😂😂😂😂, the only reason i know is that my mother looked weird at me. I believe that he realise in the back of his head, but kind of tries to ignore his gut and shakes it of as i am Being friendly to my sisters best Friend. Everyone around Them notice that there something is up. Smartly found in the video that Benedict, Violet and lady D try to guide him to Penelope.
Since it’s a serie we can see the development of some characters, for Daphne’s story, the duke just arrived in town, Antony’s and Kate story same thing, but Colin’s and Pen story is been seen since day one. So it’s so interesting seeing the little details. Since season one their thing is eyes, they talk with their eyes, season one, Pen is super super shy and young, but in season two not only she showed this strong woman personality butttt you can clearly see that Colin is always stepping back
You didn't mention how Colin's voice faltered while singing because Pen walks into the room. I don't think he was embarrassed, I think she took his breath away a little. You also didn't mention the most obvious sign of all the he is attracted to Pen... there was NOTHING platonic about the way Colin turned and looked at Pen after he finishes greeting his family for the first time since returning from Greece. I think if he and Pen were alone when they reunited, Colin would have slipped said something very revealing about how he feels about her... that look was way too intense. Good catch on that window-side scene where we assume Pen is crying about her father's death but she is also watching the man she loves leaving her.
I also agree about while Colin was singing, he did, I believe was slightly embarrassed and because of that, his voice faltered slightly. In my opinion in this scene, embarrassment comes when the love for someone hears you do something when they have never witnessed that something before. Colin definitely has feelings for Pen❤
@@ltzayas How does that fit with his remark that she "doesn't count" as a woman and his statement that he wouldn't court Penelope in the other guy's "wildest dreams". Marina had pointed her out to him before as well.
14:44 another thing to note is that, in the books there was a part that told us that his mother would be the one to push him to dance with Penelope at the beginning because everyone knew that no one dances with her. Colin's expression in this scene could also be because he knows she's lying about being all danced out for the night. He was probably so taken aback because "why would she lie to me?". I honestly believe that's what was going on in his mind
I just remembered another sibling who might know: Daphne. In episode 7, she speaks to Colin and tells him that he was lucky that he didn't end up marrying a stranger. Guess who isn't a stranger to Colin? His dear friend Penelope.
Colin in the first season is a immature boy, in fact him brother Anthony he say to him the proposal of marriage it was very fast and he don’t know Marina. Lady Violet say the same thing. I think Colin thanks to his trip he understood a lot of things. Anyway in the second season Colin have to receive “no” from Marina. I think the daughters and sons Bridgeton’s family they are very spoiled and immature. I think the same of Eloise, with Penelope she speak only of herself, but she don’t understand the discomfort and feelings of Penelope. Because she live with a mother and two sisters they bully her and she hate her body for this she don’t receive proposal. I hope in the thirt season Eloise forgive Penelope, and Colin apologise with her.
a lot of the thing to catch from the series and the books is the "I didn't see you there"... while with Colin he is always looking for her upon entering the room or scene.... Book 4 to me is the feel good book and much like in the book series we become vested in the characters... and might I add the actors portraying Colin and Pen have hit it out of the park... hoping for the best come next season.
I think what's on book is shown at the series. The book said that Colin already knew that Pen have a crush on him since Pen in the young age. They met when Penelope is 16, and after Pen join the society, Colin knew her feeling. But Colin thought that it's just a puppy love. Pen might forget him after years. But after 12 years, there's nothing change. I love the way Colin surprised about the real Pen. She became more attractive and smart at the age of 28. And he wonder why the ton is so stupid cause no body saw how attractive Pen is. And it made me feel satisfied when I knew that Colin feel afraid that he might loosing Pen cause he took so much time till realise that Pen is the best woman ever for him.
In the last scene, I think the reason why Colin stops Pen because he thinks Pen’s feelings are just childish admiration. He is flattered by this declaration of love but he doesn’t believe they are genuine or important because he feels like it’s something that can fade away. He doesn’t want to feel embarrassed when she remembers this conversation years later.
@@micheledix2616 indeed. He's a perfect Colin. So do Penelope. She's 98% close to what I imagine about Pen. I can't say 100% cause some reason. But, I'm glad Nichola being Penelope in Bridgerton Series 💙💙
I truly believe that Colin sees Penelope as a true and valued friend, for now. He knows she won"t wrong him, or judge him, and she always has his best interest at heart. Like in the book, I believe he doesn't see her yet, just as a good and valued friend. I hope we see the development of him beginning to see her as more, like in the book, in the upcoming season. He is still clueless right now, like in the book, until it literally hits him and he opens his eyes. LOL. Come on Colin, get there already!!!
It literally takes Penelope ASKING him to kiss her for him to realize he wanted to, how in the world he spent all that time introspecting and never realized
Thank you i needed This, i Just adore Polin and overanalysing their scenes. I agree with all you had in the video also one you didn't name was in episode 5 when Penelope says " there are great tomatos in greece" for me it is a big joke that he actually went to greece. I don't know if he told her about going to greece but i believe that he valued her and went to greece kind of with her as reason/Idea for the country. And when he says "some things to miss in London" he looks at Penelope not Marina. Maybe i am crazy and spend to much time on this but i believe in the theory.
I'm honestly not sure if he knows how she feels or not. He seems pretty oblivious. He'd also be leading her on a bit with the letters, dances, etc., would be unkind if he knew. On his end, I think he only subconsciously knows how he feels, signified by how he looks at her and him telling her how he knows she'll never forsake her in season 2. It's possible that the "I'd never court her" line was his scared reaction after standing up for her and dancing slowly with her. Perhaps he was feeling something that was brimming to the surface and wanted to shut it down. Unfortunately, his way of dealing with that was him deciding to be uncharacteristically cruel. I imagine season 3 will be the first time he admits how he feels to himself, brought on by her cold shoulder.
Oh I really liked this! Honestly I had been rereading the books multiple times since s1 to find some clues for Polin but seems like the show is giving us more crumbs. I think I’m the scene where Colin announces he’s leaving- Penelope was actually planning to confess her feelings to him- not the other way around. That’s way she feigned that she forgot what she was going to say after his announcement
I think they’ll probably go for a similar explanation -if they provide any-as the one in their book. The narration spends a good amount of time discussing how and why Colin was *so* oblivious, ultimately lamenting that he had been aware subconsciously but was unable to accept it. He either dismissed it as a schoolgirl crush but more so that he couldn’t accept such unconditional love.
Like your video 🎉Can’t wait for S2! Btw in the scene that Colin is singing I noticed his voice shake a little bit when he sees Pen, for me is a interesting point because he is a good singer, before Pen’s appearance he sounds smooth 😝
I don't know, I think in the back of his mind he's wondering if she could be Whissledown. In book 4 it does go into his thinking as to whom he might be attracted to. He chooses a place to live among people who earn their living rather than the Ton. He points out in the 2nd season that his older brothers seem to be doing something with their lives, and he's feeding ducks. So someone who knows how to work, and within his class he would be interested in, and someone who supports him as Penelope does, and he feels protective of also. Oh yea, and Pen does point out that he is not simple and he does find out her secret before others realize it, and in the books he doesn't care that she is, he just wants to protect her.
