Colin being upset that Pen didn't respond to his letters this season directly mirrors his return from his prior trip abroad when he remarks that Pen was the only one who responded to all his letters. That should have been his first clue that something was dramatically wrong between them. I just love the throw back to an almost identical conversation, but now the stakes are so much higher. Context is everything!
The microexpressions are so on point. Luke Newton actually slayed so hard with his portrayal of Colin desperately trying to not be consumed by his feelings for Pen coming to the surface despite his best efforts to push them back down. And the tree scene where he can't even bring himself to tell her he hopes she finds a husband and instead wishes her happiness is *chef's kiss*
The thing is Colin laughing about never ever courting Penelope is hurtful not just cause she loves him and he's supposedly her friend BUT ALSO he's a very eligible suitor TALKING TO OTHER SUITORS. He literally was ruining her because he was too embarrassed to be called out about his very obvious feelings. Its such a dick move that he doesn't even realize what he's done. The growth this man had this season was much needed, Marina calling him out was such a great series of dominoes that led to his character development.
I see it though as him saying it bc she is his friend .. he doesn’t quite understand that anyone could misunderstand their friendship .. and he obviously doesn’t realise how cruel it all sounded …
He wasn't being a dick. He was oblivious (the theme of this entire series of videos) but not callous or cruel. It would be incredibly out of character for him to throw Penelope under the bus just to save face. If he had chosen to do so, it would have created significant cognitive dissonance and caused at least amount of guilt. It would certainly have stuck in his memory. Honestly, he probably would have beat himself up for it forever afterwards. But what he wouldn't do is simply forget it like any other random comment. And yet when Penelope brings it up, he has no idea what she's talking about. Also consider this: Penelope completely cut him off after this, and he spent the better part of a year wondering why. Colin is always quick to assume the blame when those around him are upset, even when it has nothing to do with him. And yet in this instance, when he actually is at fault, it doesn't even occur to him? He attributes her silence to her simply living her life and having no need of him, like the rest of his family. This conversation isn't even a flicker at the edge of his consciousness. Which makes it pretty clear that he didn't mean it in the insulting way she/we took it. Despite how everyone reads his comment, he never said or implied anything about her being undesirable. In his mind, he was asked if they were courting and he said no, and that he didn't plan to. Period. To be fair, his wording was unnecessarily emphatic, which does have to do with him being in denial of his feelings. But he's denying his feelings, not her desirability. We have to remember that we're seeing all this through Penelope's eyes. We saw her hopes get built up, only to be dashed so brutally. We felt her heart breaking in real time. And it's only human nature to jump to the worst, most painful conclusion. We see her do exactly this after the Danbury ball in Season 3. He compliments her dress, and she assumes he's mocking her. He wants to find somewhere private where they can talk, and she assumes it's because he's embarrassed to be seen with her. But we the audience just saw him interrupt a conversation with two men (who were part of that same group from Season 2) to inquire after her, and then when they tried to brush her off, he straight up ditched them to go check on her, with no pretense whatsoever. He's clearly not ashamed to be seen with her (also, he sought her out in broad daylight at the garden party earlier). But in her hurt and anger she jumps to the worst, most painful conclusion. Because that's what people do. And we jump with her, because we're so deep in her POV. He did hurt her, personally and possibly socially, and she has every right to be mad about it and to tell him so. But it simply doesn't make sense that he would step so far outside his own character as to throw his best friend under the bus like that, and yet not even remember doing it. It seems clear to me that it was a mistake (a hurtful one) rather than callousness or cruelty, or even an attempt to win the approval of his peers.
Saying that about Pen was just mean and he did say after in the garden, “I’m sorry for my callous comment here last year!” He remembered it and said it because he didn’t want his male friends thinking he was courting her. Most of these men were always being rude and making fun of Pen. What Colin did was worse or just has bad as what Lady Whistledown wrote about him after Pen and Colin’s conversation outside, during the ball. She was still mad at him!!!
@@teresatimothy8130 Your conclusion is understandable, and you are obviously not alone in coming to it. But it simply doesn't make sense of either his character or what we see of him in the show. First of all, we don't know that Colin is even aware of their opinion of her at all, and there's actually some evidence to the contrary. We never see them talking badly about Penelope around him in those first few seasons. On the contrary, what we have seen is that whenever anyone does dare to insult or belittle her in his hearing, Colin immediately jumps in to defend her. So even if they were in the habit of standing around talking shit about or laughing at her (unlikely), they may well have learned not to do such things around him. When we jump to the third season, in their very first coaching session together, Colin takes Penelope over to flirt with a group that includes some of those very men. Why on earth would he do that if they had openly disdained her in the past and he knew they would almost certainly shoot her down? He wouldn't. Second, we have never seen anything to indicate Colin shares such a low opinion of her, or thinks she is undesirable or unsuitable, or anything to be embarrassed of. The simple fact is that he hadn't even considered her as a romantic prospect in the first few seasons, which means that he hadn't considered her desirability at all, whether positive or negative. She's simply Pen. She "doesn't count." He would never dream of courting her in the same way he would never dream of courting Eloise or Francesca. Not because she's undesirable, but simply because he doesn't have her in that category at all. Once he does start to see her differently in season 3, as a woman and potential wife (though not yet for himself) we don't see even a hint of that condescension in him. Even in their first coaching session he assumes it should be no problem for her to charm potential suitors… just wave your fan and flutter your lashes and that should be all it takes. His advice to her later in that episode all boils down to "be yourself" because he knows how amazing she is. When she balks at the idea of flirting with a viscount, his only response is to remind her that she is Penelope Featherington. He knows she's a catch a viscount would be lucky to get. Whenever he checks in with her after talking to a man, he never asks about the man's response to her, but only whether she liked him. It never even crosses his mind that any of these men would be otherwise than thrilled (and lucky) to be with Penelope. Third, we don’t see Colin being concerned with what others think of him in the first few seasons. We never see any other instance of him trying to ingratiate himself to those guys, or honestly even spending much time with them. He broke pretty much every society rule with Penelope on the regular, including taking her hand and leading her out of a ballroom into a private room and closing the door behind them. He certainly didn't care what people thought of him courting Marina, even after news of her pregnancy got out, which would be *_far_* more damaging to his reputation, even amongst other men. In fact, the only time we see him worried at all about fitting in or impressing them is in season 3, when he was hiding behind his rake persona. Those very same men claim he's "much more fun than last season," highlighting the fact that he's playing the part now in a way that he never did before. And yet even in this season, at the height of his "one of the guys" era, we still see him ditch them in the middle of a conversation to chase Penelope out of a ballroom. We see him speaking to her alone in multiple public places (balls, garden parties, promenading in the park, at the market, etc). We see him bringing her over to introduce her to some of those very men in the park. If he was so embarrassed at the idea of courting her, we would expect him to be more careful afterwards, avoiding anything that would make them draw that conclusion. And yet, we see the exact opposite. He continues to single her out, obviously and in front of everyone. You say that he was embarrassed for those men to think he was courting her. But once he finally realizes his own feelings for her, we don't see even a hint of shame or embarrassment over it, even though the stakes are higher than in season 2. Not only is he much more invested in "fitting in" this season than he was before, but her social status has plummeted after word of their coaching sessions got out. Beyond simply being a wallflower, she's now a social pariah, a laughingstock. So if he were ever going to worry about the optics of people thinking he's interested in her, this would be the time. And yet it never even crosses his mind. The very first time she ventures out in public afterward, he follows her into the willow tree in front of everyone (who are all actively staring, because she's the latest scandal). It's only after she tells him that it's best they keep their distance that we see him staying back- not to preserve his own reputation, but simply to honor her request, and because he thinks she doesn't feel the same way. We never get even the slightest hint that he would let anything as minor as what other people think keep him from being with Penelope. The only thing that has the power to keep him away from her is his belief that that's what she wants. Finally, even if he _did_ share their opinion of her and cared enough about their approval to "defend" himself, *_nothing_* we've seen from him indicates he would be willing to throw Penelope under the bus to do so. In fact, though he doesn't have any problem gaining social acceptance, he does struggle internally with low self worth. And a great deal of the worth he _does_ feel he has comes from protecting and taking care of Penelope. He was on a particular high in that regard at that very ball, having confronted Jack Featherington, and saved her family from scandal. So it would make no sense for him to completely nullify all the pride and satisfaction of having protected her and her family, in order for a group of men he doesn't even like that much to have a slightly more favorable impression of him. If anything, he'd be even more primed to jump to her defense, as much as he'd loved being her knight in shining armor in that moment. The simple fact is, all the "insult" or "meanness" of his comment comes from the intentions and implications *_we_* read into it. Take a minute and consider what he actually said- that he wouldn't dream of courting her. As painful as that was for Penelope (and all of us) to hear, that's not actually an insult. There are plenty of reasons you might not date someone that have nothing to do with their worth or desirability. Things like seeing her as a sister. Or the fact that, as far as he knew, Penelope only saw _him_ as a friend/brother. He probably assumed that she would have answered that question the exact same way if she'd been there. He didn't say that the idea of him courting her was laughable. He didn't say that she was undesirable or not good enough for him. He didn't actually say anything negative about her at all. He was asked if they were courting, and he said no. To be fair, his wording was unnecessarily emphatic. But there are a lot of possible reasons for that that fit his character and their relationship much better than the assumption that he was just being a jerk, out of nowhere. To some extent, there's the platonic friend who is simply tired of explaining for the thousandth time that no, they are NOT dating their friend, whose denials get more emphatic and insistent with each repetition. Then there is the hint of truth behind their observations... he _does_ have feelings for her, but he hasn't yet recognized them for what they are, which lends even more strength to his denials. He protests too much. But he's denying his feelings, not her desirability. There's the fact that he has no idea of her feelings for him, and in fact couldn't even imagine her having any. Which, paired with his own unrecognized feelings might result in a certain defensiveness... denying any desire to court her, since he assumes she would never want to court him. This is the same self-sabotaging self-preservation we see in Penelope after their first kiss... emphatically declaring that it will never happen again (and breaking his heart in the process), because she assumes that he doesn't want to. Finally, there's the simple fact of him matching the tone of their conversation... they asked him in a light, joking manner so he responded in a light, joking manner. But I don't believe for a minute that he was talking bad about her. In fact, I'm sure that if any of those men had dared to do so, Colin would have shut them down immediately. And to his credit, once it is brought to his attention, he apologizes immediately. But him apologizing for his "callous comment" doesn't show that he remembers it. It simply shows that he believes her- that he said something and that it hurt her. But notice two things: When she initially brings it up at the Danbury ball, look at his expression. We don't see guilt, or embarrassment, or "oh shit, you heard that?" or even defensiveness. All we see is confusion, and concern over how obviously upset and hurt she is. Then, when he goes to apologize, notice that he doesn't mention a single thing beyond what she'd already told him, not even apologizing for what he said "to those men." He literally only apologizes for what he said "here (at Penelope's house) last year," which he knows because she told him she'd heard him at her mama's ball. He doesn't remember it, because to him, there was nothing to remember. He was asked if he was courting his friend and he said no. Everything else is just the audience (and Pen) filling in the blanks with our own assumptions.
i love how colin being upset after talking to pen that morning because he did not pleased with Anthony's compliment (in mondrich's bar) about his admirers 🤣
The look he gives Penn when he says he misses her it was a look like yeah I know you will like that lol. Just it was funny look to me , I have put way to much thought into this lol
When he saw Pen in distressed and followed her then she asked him what is he doing here he then lied that he is just getting fresh air I knew he was in denial with his feelings. Why would he lied if he thought of her as a friend he could just be honest and say I saw you walked out are you okay etc. 😭🤣
I just took it as him trying not to put her on the spot. Being there for her and giving her the chance to talk if she wanted to, but without saying "Hey, I noticed you running from the ballroom almost in tears" (which means others probably saw that, too, which might make her even more embarrassed), and not pressuring her to talk about it if she didn't want to. We see him doing that a lot this season, like with her secret later. Letting her know he's ready to listen, but she doesn't have to share it yet if she doesn't want to
Why is no one taking about the background song (when Pen enters i to ballroom in green for 1st time) being abcdefu by Gayle? It literally fits, "I was into you but I'm over it now" as she passes Colin without saying anything looking absolutely GORGEOUS and he's looking to her like "whoa! Is that...Penelope?" Yes, she still loves Colin (duh) but in that moment she was a woman on a mission. Done with being ignored and left to spinsterhood.
I’ve been binge watching this show because of these two 🥰 the first two seasons were great but nothing compares to season 3 story line and their chemistry is off the charts 📊
i love how the power dynamics shifted this season, she was not at his mercy , infact i believe she spoke rather freely this time ,even showing her discontent at the ball abt his comment from last season...
Love these fan edits. ❤ Love how Colin's voice changes according to how honest he's being with himself...he has a softer voice with Pen (unless he's spouting bollocks about charm). With his "armour" on he speaks very differently.
Thank you for the laughter and for adding a piece from "Anne with an E". Colin looking at Penelope often makes me think of Gilbert (Lucas Jade Zumam) looking at Anne (Amybeth Mc Nulty)
He was so in denial of his feelings 😂😂 when he returned in series 3 you could tell he missed penelope after saying hi to his family he was looking around to see if he could see penelope he missed her writing to him probably one of the things that kept him smiling whlist away surley one of his brothers notcied and should of taken him for a drink and told him are you going to tell penelope you love her or not it was so obvious that he had feelings for her
9:37 at this scene where pen says the lord asked to call on her they play "jealousy " as bgm, i love that because it was when colin started becoming jealous
Loved it! First, thanks for the Disco reaction. As a long time Trek-loving nerd, it made me happy. Second, when Colin escorts her into the drawing room for the second lesson 6:27 mark, just before that, he puts his arm around her back as they walk away together.
I laughed incontrobally for ... Almost all the video... Some people stared like I've gone mad but no .. just enjoying every second of your video! Well done. Can't wait for a the second part of season 3 😏
😂In my opinion, when he talks to Pen "You're my friend" I don't think he's saying this to Pen to tell her that they're friends, but yes for rather so he can try to convince himself that she's just a friend. It's like he's trying to get it into his head that Pen is just a friend and nothing more, it's as if he had trying to convince himself that Pen is a friend and that he can't be attracted to her, that's it for me, because he repeats this so many times that it seems like he wants to convince himself of it haha
Thank you internet people for exaggerating all details so people with no social abilities can enjoy this scenes better. The memes makes the difference.
Hi y'all! How are you all doing? I loved season 3 almost entirely. In the end, I was left with a slight feeling of insatisfaction... I had hoped for more of Colin and Penelope!! In this season there were so many storylines (Lady Whistledown's reveal - Francesca and Lord Kilmartin . Benedict and his threesome - Violet and Lord Anderson - Cressida and her struggles - Penelope and Eloise) that they took space from what Colin and Penelope were ready to offer to the audience. I wanted more of Polin... Unfortunately that was all I was going to get. What do you all think?
The thing is, that he says he’s not the same man he was last season when he said he wouldn’t dream of courting Penelope Fetherington, yet I would argue his Lord Squad Activities in S3 were still acting in line with and even a progression of his toxic masculinity that led him to say the hurtful thing about Penelope in S2 in the first place.
La escena del arbol es muy buena colin esperaba algo mas que siguiera el besuqueo con peni le quedó gustando y después que el nunca se fijaría en ella 😂
Part 2 is up: ua-cam.com/video/pOgCUQS0dBI/v-deo.html
Hi there! I have enjoyed so much your video edits that I am looking forward to Season 3 PART 2 (last 4 episodes) so so much!!!!!

Awesome!!!! Thank you ❤❤❤❤
Your edits are hilarious!! Well done!! You have me cracking up!
The way this man kept getting away with being unchaperoned with Penelope is wild and should be studied
He didn't give one good damn abt it either😂. Just reckless lmaooo
@@AceVenturaaanot even a bad damn tbh 😂
Penelope mom didn't give a dam that's why 🤣🤣🤣.. they just started treating her right in season 3.
Portia started chaperoning after baby Polin was already in there lololol

I didnt even notice the song for that scene was JEALOUS
I wish they would have played it louder and made more of a point to showcase it but it fit perfectly with the scene imo
I don't know that much about popular american song, so it's hard for me to catch the meaning of the song, especially with only the orchestral vers.
Lol that’s the best part of the whole scene. 😂😂
I’m still unsure who had biggest beef this spring. Kendrick vs Drake or Colin Bridgerton vs Colin Bridgerton.
Omg lol this is perfect
I’m sitting in my dr’s office and I just laughed my ass off. Best comment
Colin: I will help Pen find a suitor.
Colins after Pen gets a suitor: *surprised pikachu face*
😅😅😅
His name was Colin Denial Bridgerton, and after the carriage scene his name changed to Colin Fingerton ✨😂
It's going to be Mirrorton after tomorrow
Hahahahahahaha 😂😂😂😂
🤣How much I laughed after seeing this.
& after the mirror scene they're calling him' Consent King Colin Bridgerton'😂
I choked on my food 😭
i love how colin being upset after talking to pen that morning because he did not pleased with Anthony's compliment (in mondrich's bar) about his admirers 🤣
En escena fue eso k no lo vi y k temporada
@@theluis1988 minute 24-ish in episode 1 season 3
Colin was down BAD for his girl lol I LOVE IT
the meme game is strong in this one
The look he gives Penn when he says he misses her it was a look like yeah I know you will like that lol. Just it was funny look to me , I have put way to much thought into this lol
do you mean: 15 minutes and 54 seconds of colin trying to not mess up while penelope is so done but still in love with him?
Yes.
Sebastian 'kiss the girl' insert was GOLD😂❤🎉
The parallels between season 3 & season 1. I love the literary genius.
Is that...Penelope?"
Yes, she still loves Colin (duh) but in that moment she was a woman on a mission. Done with being ignored and left to spinsterhood.
The ending with the screaming marmot is so funny and perfectly encapsulates his angst 😂
Every time I see this scene, I cannot stop laughing!!!😂Lmao 😂
I’ve been binge watching this show because of these two 🥰 the first two seasons were great but nothing compares to season 3 story line and their chemistry is off the charts 📊
1:00 why is no one talking about the fact that the song that is playing in this scene is abcdefu??? ABCDEFU??? THIS QUEEN???
Oh my good god the John Cena clip nearly ended me 😂😂😂😂😂 2:32
Awkward scene under the tree is still my favorite scene😂
i love how the power dynamics shifted this season, she was not at his mercy , infact i believe she spoke rather freely this time ,even showing her discontent at the ball abt his comment from last season...
These Bridgeton videos are hilarious. Thank you for an entertaining rerun of their romance before the next instalment drops 😆
Love these fan edits. ❤ Love how Colin's voice changes according to how honest he's being with himself...he has a softer voice with Pen (unless he's spouting bollocks about charm). With his "armour" on he speaks very differently.
These videos about Colin's journey to realization are so good . I keep watching them again and again.
I can't believe I found this RIGHT AFTER watching the last video 😭 thank youuu
Oh my God
The Nick Jonas "Jealous" violin version part totally got me
Thank you for the laughter and for adding a piece from "Anne with an E". Colin looking at Penelope often makes me think of Gilbert (Lucas Jade Zumam) looking at Anne (Amybeth Mc Nulty)
Throwing my head and laughing soo much as soon as that ‘what i’ve been looking for’ played
When you labeled Lord Debling "The Hope" I choked on my soda because WHAT HAHAHAHAHAHA
12:!2 DEee -Nial is a river in Egypt 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
This is pure genius! Can't wait for your takr on S3 part 2 when it drops.
Lmao 🤣 if I need a good laugh throughout my day these edits is where I come to laugh and cry 😂🥰 thank you so much for this ❤
Colin does curl his fingers to hold her hand when she is healing him. 😭 I’m not well that’s so cute
This is one of the best & funniest edits I’ve ever seen! 😂😂😂
I would watch the whole season like this
I love this. I couldn't stop laughing. Poor Colin, such a mess.
These edits are so funny😂😂😂 . the dramatic dead-slap when he calls her 'my friend' also got me like🤦♀
giggling and kicking my feet the whole time lol send this to my bf to watch too, great edit
I couldn't with the mountain beaver scene😭😭
Can't wait for the edit of season 3 part 2 (the last 4 episodes)!!
I binged all three, great work! SUFFER COLIN!!!!!
Part 2 please , this video is so funny , 😂😂😂😂😂 it’s so hilarious
This is the best thing I've seen.cany stopping watching and laughing so hard.brilliant😂😂

Living for these edits.
Girl I was waiting for your video! Perfect timing before pt 2!
That. Was. Hilarious.
Love your commentary!
Besides being in denial, he's giving her the friend zone 😂😢
No he was just so self unaware of his own feelings. It took years to get his head out of his you know what
11:35 literally what I've been thought it lol
I have all your Polin edits saved in playlist. ❤ LOVE it 🫶🏻
Thank you 💛

Soooo good! Keep doing it , please
These are all way too perfect!
Thank you 💛
Best edit ever 😂
The ending! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
These edits are the best thing ever!!! 😂😂😂😂
I wanted her to be mad at him for a little longer. I need him to grovel just a bit more
Loved Every Second!!!
I just love these fan edits thanks lol😂
Your videos are amazing, the commentary is hilarious!! The best fan videos by far!! 😂🤣😂🤣
