Have you ever thought about packing up, leaving your life as you know it, and moving to Italy? Frances Mayes, author of Under the Tuscan Sun, did just that when she and her husband Ed purchased a villa in the hilltop Tuscan town of Cortona, resulting in a bestselling book and movie! Frances recently joined Kathy in filming the Dream of Italy: Tuscan Sun Special for PBS. Host Kathy McCabe visited with Frances again at her iconic home Bramasole, to talk specifically about the challenges and rewards of the growing trend of moving to Italy.

We love Mrs. Frances Mayes.
Love it all...I loved the film and the book...
Such a lovely exchange between friends. I feel privileged by enjoying it, too. I can’t get enough of Italy after falling in love with her visiting the October truffle festival in Alba, drinking in the hill towns of the Langhe Valley, and one life changing day and night in Torino ten years ago. Many visits to Italy followed-Florence, Rome, Venice. I agree with Ms. Mayes that one could not experience all of Italy even in five lifetimes. Brava to you both! When I yearn for Italy, I read Frances Mayes and watch Dream of Italy! Thank you!
Frances and Kathy have a dream life. I'm so envious, and happy for them.
Talar du svenska ellar norska?
Because I like you
i realize it's quite off topic but does anybody know a good site to stream new series online?
@Rocco Michael I use Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
Great podcast Kathy! I love how the butterfly flew in around you early in the segment - your mom is there with you always. Cortona and Frances Mayes are treasures. Thank you for sharing this.
You looks alike a Hollywood star
i wish she would take us on a tour of her home and the entire yard and terraces. Do they still have the other villa they purchased and restored? That one has a pool.
Thank you for such a lovely interview. Mrs. Mayes is such a lady. Have owned 4 copies of UTTS and read each copy till it fell apart. Have made many of the recipes she has included. Can't wait to now read Meet You At The Piatza! Please excuse my spelling. Could listen to her for hours.
@Life Is Beautiful! California Thank you!.
You looks very pretty and very innocent
Amazing.
Love this!!
I just read See You in the Piazza and loved it. So many ideas for future journeys.
what a wonderful interview
How lovely. I was lucky enough to visit Frances at Bramasole in the summer of 2018. I showed pictures from our visit in my podcast this week, I guess that's why this episode of yours came up on my UA-cam-page as a suggestion :-)
fantastic thank you and it is a great business model:)))
Wonderful and informative. Have been following Frances Mayes since her first book. Under The Tuscan Sun. Miss buying her annual Calendar. I have the entire collection until the availability stoped. Any chance of them coming back?
Thank you for an interesting interview. Where can we watch the full episode of your Tuscan special?
Was that stomach growling I heard at 15:20??? 😂
Vary nice
Probably should learn Italian to
Love this video. What is proper pronunciation for bramasole ? I’ve been saying BRAM A SOL- and a soft “e” as in the e in elephant. But I hear you say; bramaso- lay.? This doesn’t sound Italian 😬. New subbie 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Siete due bellissime donne complimenti!
it's HILARIOUS, a southerner with a thick accent, trying hard to speak ITALIAN.
It' a little disappointing that Francis is losing her southern accent.
