Camping with Mamiya C330
I took my Mamiya C330 with Mamiya Sekor 55mm f4.5 TLR lens to a camping trip. It's a perfect camera for these kind of things, very robust, no moving component and takes great photo! I used Kentmere 400 and pushed it two stops to 1600. Hope you like it!

    The halatian worked well. I think my favourite was the Cat - just because less cliched than the rest; that is NO reflection on you, I’m not saying your work is ever cliche, just recognising that cinestill t has some fairly distinct use cases, and where you are is not exactly awash with choice… That’s one of the joys of modular cameras tho. If you have the money to dedicate a film back to it, you can always have a specialist night urban film loaded in ready to take the one or two pics at a time when you want it… Thanks again for sharing your work, enjoyable as always.

    Jump from 35mm to 645 is pretty large, jump from 645 to 6x9 may not feel as huge but is still signifficant. That being said, I like my GW690 and GSW690: lenses are good and negative size is pretty large. As I rarely shoot wide open, especially with a bit stopped down, plenty sharp. Much more portable and faster to use than my 4x5 that has also it's place when movements are needed. In my headphones the winding sound seems pretty much what my cameras sound, perhaps with a bit of weird metallic sound but that may be due to audio recording or whatever.

    • @frozenf8
      @frozenf8 Місяць тому

      Hi, thank you! Using the R72 IR filter, makes that Rollei Infrared behaves like an ISO 6 film. So you can set your light meter to iso 6. For example, if it's a bright sunny day and you're on f4, shutter speed should be around 100

    Are all C330 cameras the same? Or is it like the Rolleiflex with a half dozen different models?

    • @frozenf8
      @frozenf8 Місяць тому

      As far as I know, Mamiya TLR models are far less than Rolleiflex. In the Rolleiflex worlds there are different focal lengths and different maximum apertures. But in the Mamiya TLR world,there is C330, C330F and C330S which are basically the same, with minor differences. Of course there are older models like Mamiya C33, C22 and C220, but they have been replaced by slightly more advanced C330 models.

    That is a nice looking piece of equipment! I did consider buying a C330 for a while because of the interchangeable lenses and the bellows focusing but ended up buying the Fujica GL690 rangefinder camera and three lenses instead. One of my lenses, the 100mm f3.5, came with quite a lot of haze inside and had to be sent to an expert repairer to be thoroughly cleaned. The result now, as with the other two lenses (65mm and 180mm), is really superb image quality with no issues about sharpness, colour rendering, flair or chromatic aberration. I would expect the Mamiya lenses to be as equally good as Fuji's, but that does not seem to be the case judging by your images. So my question is whether you have checked your 250mm lens for internal haze or fungus. The best way is to do this is to look through the lens, with the shutter open and the aperture wide open, while shining a very strong white LED light source through it from the other end. That should reveal any such problem very clearly.

    • @frozenf8
      @frozenf8 Місяць тому

      You are right, it had a thin layer of haze, I didn't ecpecy it to reduce the contrast that much, but I'm quite happy with my othrr Mamiya lenses, and I'm gonna live with this one until I get it CLAed.

    My copy, doesn't rattle and the aperture ring is snug and positive clicking to the aperture stops. It is quite sharp in the centre wide open with a heavy fall-off as you go out from the centre. Stopping down expands the centre field of focus, reaching optimum at F8. It glows in the highlights when wider than F2.8. It's an enjoyable to use, unpretentious, honest vintage 50mm "cron".

    This is the nicest film camera I have ever seen. I wish they weren't so expensive and hard to find globally. I would love one of these one day. I think FujiFilm should make their next X100VII this small. Ha ha

      These are fine cameras, not the best, but cool and fun to use! I really wish one of the big companies could bring back Rollei 35 or some of other famous cameras from the film era! I guess we have to wait and see

      Yeah, it would be nice for them to rerelease this. I can’t see them being very expensive to make. Even cooler would be a digital camera in this size. It’s an engineering marvel

    the 503CW is a waste of money. The floating mirror adds nothing of use and only a source of failure. You can add accessories that are becoming increasingly expensive and harder to find. The later, brighter view screen can be fitted into the 500CM, I put one in mine. They also weren't made in one place, with production instead being farmed out around the world, causing variable quality. I got rid of my 503CW (having purchased it before knowing) this and bought a 500CM after having to get the 503CW serviced/unjammed twice. I bought a 500CM 30 years older and I've not had a single problem with it.

      @frozenf8 2 місяці тому

      I'm glad you said this. When buying this, I was always thinking about not having the gliding mirror and if I'm losing anything! Did you use your 500CM with longer lenses? Any bad vignetting compared to 503CW?

    • @careypridgeon
      @careypridgeon 2 місяці тому

      @@frozenf8 there's no problem with vignetting without the floating mirror. The mirror is only for composition, it has no effect on the final image because it flicks up. I own the longest lens, 500mm, and I've used it on both bodies. It made no difference I've been able to tell, in spite of allegedly improving the composition area. This caused me to think they were banking on not many people actually owning one of the longer lenses (they are after all really expensive) this feature applied to and seeing how useless it actually is. They added it as a feature when more stuff had to be added to justify a new version.

      @@frozenf8 If you ever think about getting the 500mm lens, it's unbelievably heavy, so you'll need a really good tripod and probably a new head for it. Plus once you focus on something before infinity everything 100-150 feet in front of or behind your subject will also be in focus, so no subject isolation is possible. It's an astonishingly good lens, but not the same as those built for 35mm/digital cameras.

      @frozenf8 2 місяці тому

      @careypridgeon I actually like the 500mm and I think I'm gonna get it one day. I know it's very heavy and having f8 means tripod needed. But regardless of all these I want to give it a try!

    Love the sound of the Hasselblad when it is fired. Not sure just what types of images you make but you can't to far wrong if you add the 150mm Sonnar or the 120mm S-Planar.

    Nice to meet you, I'm Japanese. I own two Nikon F cameras, which are also my father's belongings. I have both eye-level finder and FTN viewfinder, but I think it's better to use a stand-alone exposure meter with the eye-level finder.

    I have a Nikon F with Photomic Ftn meter head with a Nikon Nippon Kogaku 50mm f/1.4 lens, camera body circa late 1971/early 1972; the lens somewhat older than that because it's labeled 'Nippon Kogaku'. Both excellent condition. The meter works fine I had to get a couple of voltage adjusting battery adaptors to use modern equivalent silver oxide batteries. I call my Nikon F the 'Ford vs. Ferrari' camera because the same camera appears early in the film 'Ford vs. Ferrari'. Love using mine it's an iconic piece of photographic history and I get a lot of 'what kind of camera is that?' questions.

    Nice shots overall, but would have liked more film photos from your Leica M3. A digital camera is easy to use because a microchip does most of the work vs. focusing & setting your exposure on the Leica M3. London is one of the best places to do street photos because of its older architecture and busy streets. Interesting trip for photos.
