Calm down Elmer. Even if someone fucks up a radio, they’re only a couple of hundred $ for a replacement. You can use the dead one for spare parts. You’ll need a key pad eventually cuz all yaesu pads wear off easily

Thank you so much for this! I'm a missionary in Nigeria and I inherited my FT-70D from an older gentlemen who passed away at our church. We use other radios to keep in touch with the local police and our security and I am so happy to now be able to use the frequency we are on with this radio. By far it has the best range of all the radios we use.

Thanks ! Got my braid in the mail today (Amazon) ... Followed your instructions ... took less than 5 minutes (and I'm clueless
when it comes to soldering and it was done. Booted up and put in my Call sign, went through the ridiculous AMDS software
instructions (remember, export originals codeplug to excel type ....... reloaded it (well .. twice, first time didn't work) ... and I'm

If you do this, perform a "Reset All" when turning on the first time after the mod. See page 24 of the Advanced Manual.
If you already did this and you only transmit white noise, do the same Reset All.

If you can get your hands on a hot air station, set it to 400, give it a few seconds and use a pair of tweezers to pick the resistor right off. You can even put it back on if you want latter on.

I watched this video and done it exactly as described. A bit fiddly but I kept my fingures steady and done it using a small pencil soldering iron. Its not that hard but any way up,it makes perfect sense to make sure you know exactly what you are doing, as this mod is well....SMALL to say the least. But once done it worked perfectly. Over here in the UK, we do not have such family frequencies and such, but we do have PMR frequencies and that what I done it for. BUT if you are not sure, then DO NOT do it. Ask a fellow radio ham. Nice video bye the way....

Not certain, but I would bet you would get more bass if that rubber grommet was out. It's likely there to help with water resistance and keep that IPX rating. Otherwise it feels like a genuine window Yaesu left for owners to say "you know you wanna"

Gives you the ability to transmit outside of amateur bands. Most people are only interested in GMRS, MURS, and marine bands. But depending on radio brand it will will usually open up transmit from 137-174 on VHF and 400-520 on UHF. Most all brands are the same on the vhf side, but they vary on UHF such as some are 420-470, 400-470, 400-500, it just depends. I think my Icom 2730 does 400-480.

There is no such thing as a MARS license. MARS is a program you join to work with the military, kind of like the Coast Guard Auxiliary or the Civil Air Patrol, but focused on radio. Members must already be a licensed amateur but get a separate MARS callsign for official work. Members get assignments and do training that involves transmitting on non-Ham HF bands and are only authorized to do so when assigned to. They use their own HF radios, so they must be modified to be able to access any HF frequency. They do not use modified VHF radios. We just *call* any radio modified to transmit on expanded frequencies "MARS modded" for convenience.

Ah yes, the ole “hiking” scenario every ham radio guy speaks of when performing a MARS/CAP mod. Every transmit expansion mod I’ve researched, the author of the article/video always mentions “hiking” and the need to have the capability to transmit out of band in an emergency.
Have you ever been to a ham fest? Been to one lately? Ain’t none of them fellas doing any hiking!
Seriously though, good video even though I don’t have a need to perform it. I’m just curious about radio mods in general even if I don’t need them.

Ham proponents argue that their $15 multiple choice test ensures that only those with serious interest in electronics and the furthering of the radio arts are allowed to participate in their exclusive, law-abiding club. When these very same proponents are handed a soldering iron they are suddenly forced to acknowledge the fact that memorizing a list of answers to 35 irrelevant questions which somebody wrote in the 1930s has not qualified them to perform even the simplest of operations on a piece of modern electronic hardware and they just resort to ham-handedly stabbing around until something falls off; unironically why it's called "ham radio" in the first place.
