    I feel like the Samoa case was slightly different than a regular "safe vote"; yes they were playing around an idol but they were also banking on the vote going to rocks, in which Natalie would be safe and there's a 4/7 shot of booting a "stronger" Foa Foa or Shambo.

    • @bigbuffguy9589
      @bigbuffguy9589 3 роки тому

      Right. Most of Galu (i.e. not Fincher) was intent on going to rocks, so Natalie isn't a good example at all. I suppose it is true that they should have targeted her or maybe Jaison or Mick in the previous round instead of voting for Russell.

    • @cdawg4021
      @cdawg4021 2 роки тому

      @@bigbuffguy9589 I don't blame them since they fought that with the idol clue in possession they thought there was no way Russell could find another one without the clue I think they just got blindsided so I don't dunk on the Galu tribe other than the fact that they managed to blow a 8-4 advantage to the other tribe which shows that winning challenges don't always lead to you getting to the FTC.

    The first time the safe vote was implemented was technically in Survivor Panama: Exile island when Aras wanted to vote off Sally because he was worried that Terry and Austin had such a good bond that Terry would pull out the super idol and save Austin. This bond wasn't as strong between Terry and Sally since Terry wanted Sally out the Dan vote and she would've been sent packing if she hadn't been sent to exile island. This isn't exactly a safe vote though because a) it wasn't a regular idol, it was a super idol, and b) this plan wasn't even implemented. Austin ended up being the first juror and surprise surprise Terry wasn't a dumb ass and he kept his super idol that he never even had to use because of his big immunity challenge streak. Geez, if only he had won that final immunity and taken Danielle or if only Danielle had taken Terry. We would have seen a great winner being Terry. At least he got a second chance.

    I'd like to make a counterpoint in regards to the Worlds Apart Final 12
    Nobody in the majority alliance had a serious alliance with Will before, so they didn't know whether or not he could be trusted to vote 8 strong. Because of this, they couldn't ensure a 4-4 split, they could only count on a 4-3 split, with the other alliance potentially having 5 votes.
    Even though WE know that they were safe by splitting, that doesn't mean THEY knew that they were safe be splitting. If I were in their shoes, I would've been wary of Will as well.

      @Kelly Lieber If you're in a majority alliance but the minority has an idol, the "safe vote" is essentially putting your votes on a weaker member of the minority so as to minimize the chance of your votes getting negated by the idol.

    • @BrettMKW
      @BrettMKW 6 років тому +6

      The odd part about Cochran's move to me is by voting off his own tribe there I don't see how he thought he could win the game. It almost feels like he cared less about winning than about screwing over the people who were mean to him. For such a superfan of the show this philosophy of his was bizarre. It only makes it stranger that he later went on to win a different season so surely he knew what it took to win.

    • @Minecraftlover73
      @Minecraftlover73 6 років тому +1

      BrettMKW I think it's because in S.O he'd lose no matter which side he chooses, cause he's at the bottom either way you slice it

    • @BrettMKW
      @BrettMKW 6 років тому +1

      There were people that wanted to take Cochran to the end just because they thought he was a goat. I know for a fact Jim wanted to take out Ozzy as soon as Savaii had the numbers to do it. I don't think there's a good chance he wins or anything but I don't think it was precisely zero either (which is what it was as soon as he flipped.)

    The first time a Hidden Immunity Idol made it's appearance was Guatemala (Gary found it at final 9 and played it).
    The first instance of a "safe vote" was when Cao Boi (Cook Islands) had a dream about "Plan Voodoo". He wanted to split the vote between Candance and Jonathon. He was voted out that night instead. It was a smart plan, but Yul and Becky didn't want to follow thru!

    • @TheMattHardyFan21

    I tried to block South Pacific from memory but I do believe that Cochran told Upolu that Savaii was giving the idol to Whitney which was why they definitely didn't vote for her. But someone can correct me on that if I'm wrong, but would've been interesting to see if he hadn't.

    • @bigbuffguy9589
      @bigbuffguy9589 3 роки тому

      Yes, this is right. Cochran was a double agent, so that's how they knew.

    • @cdawg4021
      @cdawg4021 2 роки тому

      Cochran told Sophie about the plan Ozzy had to get back in the game and get Cochran to play double agent and be on Upolus side and to her that Ozzy would play the idol for Whitney so I wasn't surprised that the Upolu alliance voted for Keith instead.

    I hope you respond to this message:
    But wasn't the first 'safe vote' orchestrated by Rob when 6th place Christy was voted out.
    Now sure, there were no idols, and ye the reason why this was a safe vote is a bit diff than the concept of only one side choosing the next next best option. But I feel it actually makes alooot of sense to be listed there.
    Sidenote: Love the videos, they give a fresher perspective to certain mechanics than how Jeff Probst usually likes to annoyingly make certain stuff feel corny (I really hope you do an episode on that xD) Also like the video edits

    • @Peridiam
      @Peridiam  6 років тому +3

      Hey! I'm responding! :D
      Technically yeah, voting out Christy was a 'safe vote', but I'd argue Rob's move was more about taking out the swing vote and removing uncertainty moving forward. The move I outline in the video is basically all dependent on idols, which like you said didn't exist at the time.
      Thank you for the compliment! I really appreciate it. Top 5 Corniest Jeff Probst Moments incoming!

      Peridiam haha, if you do you have to include him ranting on the hard on he has for ciera... Didn't you know "SHE VOTED OUT HER MOOOOOM"
      (ps i actually think she was great her first season, and a decent player in her survivor career just how jeff describes it)
      Or how jeff likes to make seasons/moments seem as though theyre metamorphing inti something way deep. Than it actually is like last tribal (survivor 35 1st jury boot elimination)where he went on how it seemed as though they were going through a familt like emotional. Roller coaster in the. Hour or so there is of tribal. Idl this is really a recent thing he's been bothering me about survivor in general trying to make it seem like there's some bigger picture to the show.

    Rob perfected the safe vote in HvV, not Redemption Island, but one rogue straggler can mess the whole plan up, as we all saw. It's way harder to pull off than just a party line vote, and more risky, because then you give power to someone at the bottom, who can just flip a vote and totally shake up the game. Takes supreme trust to pull of the safe vote.

    • @cdawg4021
