- This all-Chopin disc marked Mikhail Pletnev's debut as a pianist on Deutsche Grammophon. Although Pletnev's interpretive approach was castigated in some corners, his playing is admirable and extraordinarily manly, with a decidedly Slavic cast and yet with all kinds of elegance. One is struck repeatedly by Pletnev's crystalline arpeggiations, the velocity of his passage work, his singing tone, his rhythmic suppleness, and, above all, the grandeur of his sound. And does DG ever do a number on that! If you've ever turned pages or played on a real stage, this is the sound you hear: big, resonant, incredibly solid, rich in overtones, and slow to decay. The weight and immediacy of the lower octave are better captured here than on most other recordings, as is the action of the dampers. -- Ted Libbey

One of my favorite Chopin albums. Pletnev never fails to capture the spirit of the music.
So minimal and so beautifully simple, despite that Chopin isn't simple. I can feel tranquility and solitude, while Pletnev is playing this piece. Decent approach to Chopin's music.

This recording was removed and not available for many years (8 or more). I´m really happy it´s back. IMO the best rendition in YT.

An excellent pianist. Virtuoso and refined. Chopin, Schumann, Tchaikovsky.
He also plays some of the best renditions of Scriabin, my favorite composer.

Cuando en la interpretación en el piano es show, performance este pianista me transmite tranquilidad , sentimiento, pero sin tantos aspavientos, el piano habla.

One of the greatest Chopin recording in the history. And huge shame that Pletnev no longer release a new album . By the way, why Pletnev's name cannot be found on the artist list of DG's office website?
He was involved in scandal in 2010 in Thailand charged with child molestation. Charges were later dropped.

Good. But pollini's version sound more like the title a cello. If it is really meant to resemble a cello. I am not familar with the piece though.

Десять минут сидит молча. Поворачивается в сторону окна, еще десять минут сидит молча.
Подзывает бармена. Смотрит ему в глаза, бармен смотрит в ответ. Это продолжается примерно полчаса. Просит стакан воды. Бармен приносит стакан. Мужик смотрит на него пять минут. Кладет голову на стол, лежит так еще двадцать минут.
Погружает палец в стакан и начинает им водить туда-сюда, помешивая воду. Это длится час.
После этого встает, надевает пальто и уходит, но в дверях застывает и смотрит на людей в баре еще полтора часа. Люди молча смотрят в ответ.
Уходит.
Бармен:
- Тарковский гений!

Apparently, Chopin created this composition after Bellini ( Costa Diva ) suicide.
Це ж треба так майстерськи-занудливо мати терпіння дограти до кінця. Такий класний твір майже перетворив в дещо неймовірно занепаденне.
