    Marvin was soft spoken and a troubled soul. He tried to make his way with all of his issues self inflicted and all. His father was filled with envy and jealousy and regardless of what he did, it was never right. Parents who are troubled often put their problems on their children. HIs life was loveless and he craved normacy throughout his life.

      Yes in his case, you can say his father screwed him up ! I've just recently learn and read about his life, but for what I've already understood of his personnality, to me this guy was really a beautiful soul, longing for care and love between people, but he was certainly a little bit more narcissistic than most people, and the disdain ( in fact the hostility!) of his father strenghtened this narcissism, whereas a loving father would probably have provide him self-confidence and avoid the kind of perverse behaviors he had later with his second wife (according to what I've read and heard here in some docs..)
      Other persons would have renounced to the love they would never get from a mistreating father like that, but he never gave up on getting some love from him.. which i's easily understandable and very frequent for what I know..
      what a waste.for him, cause it might have taken so much energy off of him ! . but not totally for us however, regarding all the music he left anyway..

    I remember having a crush on Marvin Gaye back in 73 when I was 12. I didn't know what it was, but there was something about him. I hated boys, but he was so beautiful to me. As I got older, I discovered he had charisma, charm, and sex appeal. I really did love him and it hurt my heart the day he died. He was so intelligent and compassionate also.

    There Are So Many Ways In Which Many Out There Have Used Words To Describe (or) Express How They Feel (or) Felt About Marvin Gaye.... But From My Prospective, We Haven't Found The Word(s) To Place In One Sentence (nor) Paragraph That Can Best Describe The Man, The Make Up Of: "The Son, Man, Husband, Father, Brother, As Well As A Friend... I remember when "Pride and Joy", "How Sweet It Is", "Stubborn kinda Fellow" and "Can I Get a Witness" were released!!! Wow! Good memories too! I still have the 1st autograph that I got from Marvin too! His and several other Motown artists because Motown was just starting back in the day! It was easy to get up close and personal with them then because the times and people were sooo different. I gained a respectible friendship with a couple of artists during that time. One later became a neighbor!

    I LOVE Marvin. Really to be honest, I am obsessed. I am so smitten and in tune with Marvin. He is in my heart all the time. His songs are always in my ears. I actually was listening to Here My Dear, when I came here. I wish I could speak to him so bad I have to accept every day that I can not. Love you forever Marvin! To the end of time and even after that. That you for being so beautiful even in your pain and strife… there are just no words to properly explain how I feel.

      Don't you find his relationship with Anna intriguing? Some of his most beautiful , deep, and heartfelt work regarded her. Hear, My Dear is absolutely brilliant and still to this day go over some heads. David Ritz nailed the liner notes. I wish Anna would've written a book.

    • @klesure08
      @klesure08 8 місяців тому

      @@SimplyBeingTT Very intriguing. I read Jan’s book in which David help her write and I also have David’s book on Marvin but I haven’t read it yet. Even though Marvin was very much in love with Anna, his love life with Jan was just as splendid. You can’t have a love with a man like Marvin and it’s not a euphoric, wonderful but painful experience. Here I am months later after this post still obsessing. Still watching his live performances over and over. Still looking at his pictures and listening to his interviews. I can get enough. I am so in love. And always will be.

    • @SimplyBeingTT
      @SimplyBeingTT 8 місяців тому +1

      @@klesure08 This is not directed at you, but I find it so unfair that Anna can't even be mentioned without Jan being mentioned too. She's so intertwined with his first marriage and that's because he was still married during the greater half of their relationship. I'm amazed at how many people find that beautiful, when it involved someone being hurt. Yes, he and Anna had their issues, but if he was that unhappy, why didn't he divorce her? If he was so in love with Jan, why did Anna have to divorce him? It wasn't because of the money either, because he had enough money to throw away on everything else.
      I do appreciate Jan's book and found it to be very entertaining and eye-opening. I appreciate that she didn't make herself out to be his victim. My honest takeaway though, was aside from lust and sex, there wasn't much else between them. Their bond is their children, whom I know they loved, but at times even that took a back seat to their drug use. Other than substance abuse, there didn't appear to be much substance. No matter how much she tried to convince herself and audience - fans - otherwise.
      I also got the feeling she was a colorist, who felt that because she was biracial, that made her prettier and better than black girls. Her standard of beauty was white. So, she really couldn't understand his love and bond with Anna because she felt her being mixed, paired with her youth, made her the prize. Society, her Caucasian mom, and fans, including the black girls she felt she was better than, justified her feelings. She was pretty, yes, but her beauty didn't trump Anna's. Realistically, she was only younger than Anna. Berry Gordy has a biography that includes pics of a younger Anna, and she was a beauty too. She aged beautifully as well. Even in her 60s she looked good on Marvin's 43-year-old arm, and never appeared at any point to be 17 years his senior.
      Like you, I have a deeper love and appreciation for Marvin than even before, and I have Jan to thank for that. Funny enough, listening to Nay Rob here on UA-cam read After the Dance is what sparked my fascination of Marvin and Anna's relationship. I found myself wanting to know more which led me to purchase After the Dance, Divided Soul, Here, My Dear, and Frankie and Zeola Gaye's books. Through it all, he had an undying love for Anna, and for some reason that just speaks to my soul about him as a man. Marvin not only embodied gorgeous good looks, genius God-given talent, and intelligence, he was also in tune with his sensitivity, making him all the more deep and more fascinating! 😍

      Marvin was just joking when he said he was 19... His girst hits Stubborn Kind of Fellow came out in 1962 when Marvin was 23... An educated guess of the time of this interview judging by the songs in background including Can I Get A Witness would be 24.... That is when Marvin-s second string of hits were released ( Can I get A Witness came out in 1963 when Marvin was 24) .. I would put him at 24 and no more than 25

    I remember watching the "Beatles Anthology DVD Set", and when the group was in New York City during their first US tour in 1964, they were interviewed by a radio DJ there (it might have been on WNEW). The DJ asked Paul McCartney which song that he would like to hear on the station, and he requested, "Pride And Joy", by Marvin Gaye. Back in 2011 (I think), during Paul McCartney's "Baseball Stadium" Tour, when he performed at Comerica Park in Detroit, He and hisband sang Gaye's song,"Hitchhike".

    I agree with Johnny Carson. Marvin & artists owe their fans only a good performance. Nothing more & nothing less. Most great artist are like that. I include Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, Chick Corea, etc. It's a way to keep in real & not phony and it's the music that maters most.

    Wow, being a singer is a very lonely life? What an honestly supreme human being! Funny thing Michael Jackson and Prince Rogers Nelson were secure being that they had their own catalogs yet they were not secured at all, and they along with Marvin died tragically before the age of 50 or 60 years old? 🤔

  • @ItiyahIsrael
    @ItiyahIsrael 12 років тому +4

    A clue to when this was recorded is MG mentioning 'The Beatles'. Although they formed their group during 1957- 1960 in England, they didn't become internationally known as 'Beatlemania' until their tours in 1963-1966.To mention the Beatles here as he did, means they were big. It seemed like Marvin was lightly joking about being 19.5 yrs old, and would guess this interview was between '63 or shortly after. The interviewer said MG just started recording which puts MG's youngest age about 24 yrs.
