Imagine still needing map enhancement with a game that is supposed to be NextGen and damn expensive. We need some serious competition between Microsoft is beginning to misbehave.
You are the smartest man alive Next to me. But of course conceit is a fault, and we don't have any. I'm with ya. I don't use anything I don't absolutely need. All these people running dlss swapper, autofps, tinkering with map mods, external planners, and nav data, project Lasso. Yada Yada. OK. When do you fly and enjoy the adventure ? Hieya?!!!
Because sadly, the default product doesn't deliver everything it promises. With some tweaks, it can go from good to amazing and you can easily get 60fps fluid framerate with gear that doesn't cost a house downpayment.
@gstrdms no. Not really. Then why was it like this with Msfs2020. Or xplane, or fs2000. Fsx. Or even fs98 for that matter. The Sims were always computer hogs. Everyone wants to max out everything and have 10 other apps running in the background then complain they can't have it all and say it doesn't run as well as Mario Kart. I've been part of this for so long and I watch. This has all been said before. But things never change. Nobody needed a 1080 ti until they were invented, now I have to have it. Everyone is different, but not everyone can admit they are smitten with trying to keep up with the jones' . I'm old and cranky now. I know but it doesn't change what everyone else is like as well.
@@casstephens3124 You must be cranky because you missed half of what I said. We use tweaks TO AVOID KEEPING UP W JONESES in terms of hardware. Humble cards can have monster performance (2k, 60fps, high settings) with DLSS. "everything maxed out with 10 apps running in bg" Yes, because unfortunately, we never receive what we pay for, what we are promised when it comes to Asobo - so we have to do the work they didn't do. Get a proper tileset (google, mapbox etc) to give good sat data. Traffic Injection to make up for the nonexistent traffic they promised would be up to the minute with real liveries. BeyondATC to make up for the AWFUL stock ATC etc. GAIST for the undelivered ship traffic and if their files weren't encrypted, we would have dozens of aircraft improvement mods by now as well. This is not the joneses, it's not about what others have, it's about what we PAID to have and didn't get. Man i wish they stayed true to their word because then we wouldn't need these mods to get a decent experience out of MSFS. I was really hoping for that with 2024, only to realize that no, we will be stuck with mods and external apps forever.
It is worse because I think msfs2024 makes use of POM and not tesselation, this combined with seasons overlays distorts the original high LOD textures - just an assumption though
I have used this app with MSFS2024 with good results. The reason I used it was not for the higher realism but for the fact that you can alter the colours and exposure of the underlying images. I believe the issue with the satellite imagery is not one of resolution but how the image is displayed. The problem I believe is actually MSFS2024's much vaunted new lighting engine "flaring" or overexposing the image when the sun is overhead. You can easily see this by flying over the same place at 8am and again at midday also you will notice that the roofs of the ai generated buildings flare as well saying to me the issue is lighting engine not maps. This effect is most notable in the desert regions where you dont have trees to interrupt the light. The agricultural temporary repair for this is simply, in areas of low vegetation, dont fly between 10am and 2 pm. Great video again thanks mate.
Ok I have done a bit more delving into the 1) Map resolution issue and 2) glass cockpit blurriness issue and it turns out they are related. The Bing maps we are using have good resolution the problem is it is not displayed on our screens and this is because the lighting engine blurs the image out. It is the same with the glass cockpit screens they are blurred at certain times by the lighting engine. I can very simply prove all this and explain it in more depth if you want to come for a 1hr fly with me. If so just leave me a message and we can arrange it
Like @CaribbeanSimPilot - flying out of KSTP Holman Field (St. Paul, MN), CHS Field across the river is a construction site and US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis also an unsightly hole in the ground. Both have been open for 10 years. Allianz Field (soccer stadium) is an empty lot (couple of years newer). Problem is (at least as I've experienced it), you have to turn off photogrammetry to allow alternate or "enhanced" map use, which leads to generic buildings and these stadiums are either parks or parking structures, lol. Modders have added these structures into 2020, so it's going to be a matter of moving them to 2024. So this one isn't for me. Still, 2024 is a major disappointment so far. I'd much rather have updated, accurate visuals than a career mode. But that's not what Asobo thinks. Sigh.
I will have to look into this as my house, built in 2016, still shows the empty land cleared for development just like it did at the start of 2020. Not to mention much of the Tampa, FL area is way out of date. Thanks for pointing this out.
Hi captain, i have been using map enhancement for some time now (pro - paid version) in 2020 and i can say that it is a game-changer. I use "mapbox" pro and it is spectacular. Now that i'm using 2024, which by the way, is working very well, i haven't tried the map yet because obviously testing something new has to be done with the default, but right after Christmas i'm going to try it. I now saw in your explanation that you have to turn off the cache in map, something that would never have crossed my mind, i'm glad i saw it. Thank you and a Merry Christmas to you and all subscribers.
It does not work very well for MSFS2024. When you look at the sides you see that they load textures all the time even though they are already in the cache and every time you load you see two different textures and it takes away a lot of immersion and it's super annoying. For example, when there are farms, you see one color and when you look to the side you see another color and so on all the time, when you go up or down in altitude the same thing happens. MSFS2024 is a total disaster compared to 2020. Besides, all the time it has problems with its servers that don't want to load.
@@-thefalcon- I haven't bothered to try it yet, because the new terrain isn't as bad as in 2020. But I have my doubts because in 2024 you can't turn off the rolling cache. Even if you delete it manually, when it starts up it will create a new file with 16 Gb, I think it will cause a conflict. I have been paying the monthly subscription because I was waiting for 2024 and to try it out I will have to pay for at least 1 month. I'll wait a little longer to be sure.
Super explained. Well performed sample for how to do it for many others producer. My question is: Which Map for which area. Google, Bing or Hybrid etc. This would help me a lot
MSFS 2024, and its requirement for DirectX 12, just kills performance when I use various texture enhancement mods like the Map Replacement. My 12 Gb of vram is exhausted very quickly and performance drops. I cannot use Ultra texture quality at 4K and enabling the High LOD setting in this mod does the same sadly. Not tested with standard texture resolution
@Timboslicce re-read my comment. I said i have 12 Gb of VRAM. I have 64 Gb of ddr 5 system memory. I could use the map Enhancement with high lod enabled plus 4k and ultra textures in 2020 no problem since it was on Dirextx11
As far as I see it almost all of Australia is desert in msfs 2024 - Seasons I think is the reason for this & much preferred the "Updated" Bing using this app in 2020 with no seasons. Australia has evergreen trees mostly.
I keep getting freezes when attempting to return to the Main Menu. It just freezes when zooming out for the menu and wont start again. I did a fresh reinstall of the map enhancement mod... Anyone else experiencing this?
EDIT: It was actually AutoFPS that was freezing the sim. I tried using it with and without the maps mod and it still froze. But DynamicLOD didn't crash my sim at all, with maps mod or without... Hopefully an update will fix AutoFPS from doing that...
FYI, this mod broke my MSFS2020 photogrammetry completely. Even resetting my hosts file and uninstalling didn’t help. I just can’t stay connected to bing world data anymore, disconnects either instantly or within the first 20 minutes and I get stuck with default terrain and photogrammetry. I would take caution using this mod and really consider whether you actually need to mess around with it. The default maps are more than fine and considering how much 2024 relies on streaming it could completely ruin your experience.
Yeah it definitely messes some people up, hence the warning. Did you stop the mod before closing and uninstalling? I think that’s the one step some people miss, but honestly I can’t say one way or the other why it messes some people up. It’s rare but it does happen.
There is one issue - this mod deletes the cache for msfs2024 and should you decide on next run to not use this mod but instead use default, you’ll be greeted with green polygons on buildings, layered textures on maps and other annoying anomalies. To get it back to normal you need to delete the msfs2024 cache and restart the sim, this needs to be done on every switch.
Minnesota here and I noticed poor nap images . I was looking for US Bank Stadium and it was shown as a construction site, so about 10 years ago. What in the world is wrong with these developers? I guess I expected better.
Maybe if enough people started emailing the devs and demanding an updated big map or whatever there using maybe they would do something about it. I was flying somewhere can’t remember where but they was a advertisement board showing a iPhone 6 smh 😂
This started out as a very useful mod for msfs2020 but somewhere down the line it stopped working for me. Also at the same time a lot of stutters started to be introduced. I dug deep into how the software worked and was a little bit suspicious of how it was setup, the installer etc. Though there is nothing pointing to the software being the culprit of the issues I faced, I stopped using it because it stopped producing results (for me) and to be on the safer side.
This mod was causing me to have low bandwidth issues. I wasn't even using it for 2024 but it still affected it. I uninstalled this and had to go in and edit some file. After that I stopped getting the Bandwidth low issue.

You do need it in some areas outside the big cities and areas. Really makes a difference. Thanks. Worth it.

"we updated our sat data" Yes, the imagery is more recent, but it's like half the resolution of the old data.

don't want to mod 2024 as it is still in shambles for VR pilots
There is no such thing as a "finished" flight simulator. It's never finished!
