  • When I looked I couldn't find any videos on how to get your ebike to stay on a Motorcycle Rack and how to properly use ratchet straps. This is me attempting to help people who want to use straps to secure their ebike to a rack.
    I probably paid a total of $200 for my Black Widow Bike Rack and the Ratchet Straps to tie my bike down and another $200 to get a 2" receiver installed. So total cost around $400.
    This link gives me some type of credit if you buy, but not sure what yet.

    If you order from vevor it comes with bar straps and ratchet straps. The rack is the same and cheaper. I have two Ave ton fat tire bikes so I got the rack for two first trip Minnesota to Florida worked great. Good luck

    Very informative. I have this rack. I’ve had some difficulty getting my very heavy ebike secure. If you were buying new ratchet straps, what would you recommend? Thanks.

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm certainly not a ratchet strap expert and haven't tried but 2 types so my opinion wouldn't be worth that much. In the video, I tried 2 different types and both work. I really liked the auto retractable one because it is easier to work while one of my hands is holding the bike up. The problem with that one is I can imagine that some kid would walk behind my car and release it by just pushing the big red button and create issues for me. Since I also use chains and locks to secure my bike, there wouldn't be any danger of them stealing the bike on a whim, but would still be irritating if someone did that.

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney  Місяць тому +1

      The straps will have to be purchased separately if you don't already have some. I just type "ratchet straps" in Amazon search and picked a set. I also got the auto retract straps and have a link in the description, but I'm not sure they are the best type to get

    Do you have to tighten the 3 bolts at the bottom Every time you gonna use the ebike rack?

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney  2 місяці тому +1

      If you take the bolts off you will have to put them back on. However, I have changed to a different connection method and with the new method I don't have to lay on the ground and tighten the bolts. I can do it just leaning over the rack.

    Use motorcycle handle bar ties down adapter liter two tie downs and that sucker doesn’t go anywhere. Too much work?? I leave mine in my truck most of the time. I can have my bike on secure and chained up in less then 3min

    • @richarddkearney

      Well I tried handle bars tie downs and I believe I have 2 videos talking about what happened to my bike afterwards. I do not recommend those for ebikes. However, I do wish I had a truck or even a van, but I don't, so I deal with what I have.

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney  10 місяців тому +1

      I'm old and I don't remember exactly. What I think happened is while driving down the road the handlebars shifted which cause some slack in the straps and that damaged some parts on the bike.

  • @brianusa394
    @brianusa394 5 місяців тому +2

    Your heavy duty ratchet straps are overkill on 75# bike the placement is fine but if the heavy ratchet goes the wrong way your going to damage the car and or the bike. I didn’t notice but you need to lock the bike’s suspension or it could bounce out on you

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney  5 місяців тому

      I should have mentioned that in the video, if I didn't, but locking the suspension is something I do (as long as I remember). I'm getting better in doing a routine to lock when I put the bike on the rack and unlock when i take it off. However, when I first started, I would forget to either lock or unlock it about every other trip.

    • @richarddkearney

    I'm worried while I'm loading it up, someone is going to come up, shank me, and take the bike.

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney  2 місяці тому +1

      setting it up should be at home. Then the loading of the bike is just pushing it up the ramp and strapping it down. About 5 mins. Probably not going to find any other rack that will take less time at that point. Probably greater chance just walking to your car and having someone shanking you to take the car. Lot more valuable.

    It’s sticking out to far on drivers side

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney  Рік тому

      Well it is a motorcycle rack. I decided to put the bike in the same front wheel position as motorcycles go. If any part of the bike was more on one side, I would prefer it to be where I could see it better and that is the driver side. I was able to easily put the car with the rack and bike in my garage mainly because I could see the tire from the driver's side.

    Why was it not a good idea to strap to handle bars????

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney  5 місяців тому +1

      I got some damage the first time I tried it when the handlebars moved and got slack in the tie downs. On one of my videos I showed the damaged to my bike and told everyone not to use the handlebars, but due to my age (and/or memory) I no longer remember exactly what happened.
