It is things like this when no good deed goes unpunished, in a way when it comes to the degradation of entertainment in mind. The Like A Dragon series was not even immune to the corporatised nature of mainstream pandering based on the current day cultural climate. Another thing that really threw me off the deep end about Infinite Wealth is the lesbian VTuber called Kson who made her dream cameo just to fawn over the cancer-diagnosed Kazuma Kiryu for his docile demeanour. Secondly, Masayoshi Yokoyama is completely out of touch with everything he perceived, especially about videogame violence. Also, not to mention he now looks like a Japanese Matt Groening, who is a huge neoliberal. Had the NG+ feature not been locked behind a paywall, nonsensical celebrity cameos, corrupted localisations, oversaturation of lighthearted themes and the Westernised pandering not been implemented in the game, then I would have been inclined to buy it like with many of its predecessors. To see it go down like that is beyond disappointing to leave me absolutely jaded for the future of the games industry and openly resentful of the localisers in not just videogames but in anime as well. I could not give a fig if I had waffled on about this. I just know how I _really_ see where Sega went wrong. In other words, it is like a double decker attempting to drive under a *LOW CLEARANCE* railway bridge.
You hit the nail on the head, seeing this series go down this route is unfortunate, not very shocking however, considering how many Western and Eastern studios have lost their way over the years. The comments from Yokoyama shows how out of touch he is and seeing the direction RGG has went as of late, may explain why Nagoshi really left. Sucks to see the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series embrace localizers and modern day Western ideologies, all to gain recognition from fake journalists and social media activists, while slowly rejecting their core audience that got into the series for what it brought to the table that other games didn't.
@@49mozzer So, it's not like Kiryu goes flaunting around he has cancer. Mostly everyone except the main characters know about Kiryu's cancer, having some side character that teaches you about Aloha links know about Kiryu's cancer would practically add nothing at all.
4:40 - 4:53 NDA. But he actually did openly said he's against NG+ being locked in DLC on twitter. It's mostly never seen by those who got blocked. That's why he won't do a video because NDA.
@RevenantRemnant he probably didn't play MGS5 Multiplayer. DMC5 makes sense to make a video about its microtransactions stuff due to it being a Single player game.
@@rickythemaddragonxiong8757doubt it, he's a huge Metal Gear fan and has talked about a bunch of games he probably never played, he's a Metal Gear/Kojima fanboy, that's why he chose not to talk about the microtransactions.
Yakuza was always “woke” when it comes to sexuality and gender due to how accepting Kiryu is of others. RGG literally removed the Michiru substories in Yakuza 3 by Nagoshi’s request, and the English localization was much more mean-spirited within them. Quit yapping about being a “true fan” when you’re too ignorant to notice this.
The difference is how that was done back then versus now, it's not as simple as you like to make it seem. With ESG and far left activists in game studios, that includes localization teams, the desire to promote representation is shallow and not genuine. Years ago a lot of LGBT characters were done for laughs, that's not to say none of them were good characters, but also diversity has been around in gaming and other forms of media for decades. So things like representation is not new but judging by how media has handled representation, it's not the same as it was years ago. Companies like Sega or Bandai Namco openly conforming localizers censor their games, add in the fact that Yokoyama himself defended it and embraced the changes says a lot about what studios are doing, it's no different than what most Western studios do. Which is find ways to cram far left ideologies in games, not just for personal reasons but for the sake of increasing their ESG scores.
yakuza? you mean the game franchise about big, buff sweaty men fighting each other shirtless? you mean the one where one of the protagonists dresses as a woman, pole dances for his opponent, is obsessed with him and seemed disappointed when he couldn't kiss a man? you mean the game where kiryu reassures a trans woman that she's valid? you mean the game that makes fun of people against sex work? that yakuza? WOKE??? oh my god, who could've thought.
How media handles representation and diversity is not the same compared to how it's handled now, to deny such as thing or twist a narrative is disingenuous. Something having LGBT characters does not automatically make it woke, thinking that it does shows a lack of critical thinking, but seeing as people refuse to question something perceived as negative towards their favorite series, I can see why people will suddenly claim Yakuza was always woke in order to remain loyal to a brand. A lot of LGBT characters in the series was done for laughs, not be stunning or brave, same goes for how Kiryu treated them, he wasn't cold hearted like other Yakuza, this was obvious in Yakuza 1 with Haruka, he was never portrayed as an ally for LGBT people, despite what you shills want to convince everyone else. Yakuza has shirtless muscular men beating the crap out of each other, yes, but that doesn't mean the series is now going in a different direction, since Yokoyama himself confirmed it. Series such as The Last of Us are violent and gritty yet still panders, same goes for Starfield, a game being violent featuring men does not mean anything, especially when the publisher and director of that series defends and embraces modern day sensibilities.
@@RevenantRemnant although kiryu has never been potrayed as an outright ally, it's clear from the substories where such topics come in hand related to the lgbtq+ that he's neither unsupportive, the biggest proof is one of the talks kiryu has with a massage parlour hostess, who confesses being a trans woman and kiryu's reaction is of support - he doesn't outright get it, but the message is that while kiryu may be ignorant of suchs topics, he's a kind-hearted man who understands. 'love is about accepting one another for who you are. everyone has obstacles they have to deal with, yours are just bigger, ayaka. i can't tell you how (your date) will react, but know this: if it doesn't go well, it's not your fault.' - that's exactly what he tells her, if that's not supportive, i don't know what it is. keep in mind that this game came out in 2009, a time where it was still normalized for trans people to be the butt of the joke in most media, and ironically, in yakuza too. yes, i am aware of the michiru substory, however a small misconception i've seen is that she's a trans woman, when michiru is meant to be an 'okama' - a derogatory term used for gay people. call me optimistic, but i believe it was removed from the remaster because the devs realized how tasteless it was, rather from the fear of being 'cancelled,' or whatever. no, yakuza is not a beacon of progressivenes, but i still can enjoy the series while acknowleding its faults. the game is still far more progressive than a lot of other franchises, with a big variety of characters and substories across several games. hell, the main antagonist of yakuza 3 outright confesses his love for another man before dying, and is regarded as one of the best antagonists.
Game's great. Localisation was so much worse & people should understand that we are so much better now. They used to call Kazama "Fuma" just bc they were concerned they'd confusef his name with Kazuma Kiryu EVEN THO KIRYU WAS RIGHT THERE. I fucking wish we had LAD8's localisation back when this series started back in 2006.
I donno why some people mad about that "feminist" scene. If anything the game is mocking on how shallow that thinking is because in the next scene when ichiban confronts it to saeko it's pretty clear that saeko understand that what ichiban is saying is not come from "toxic masculinity" but just nervous.
It's literally a prominent part tho. It's not ridiculing it. So they're not mocking it at all it's literally just there in the game as a prominent part of the story
I think both basic logic in a relationship, and the games side content and cutscenes make it very clear why saeko didn’t wanna marry ichiban, lol the people complaining about the scene clearly haven’t been in a relationship
2:06 I fail to see the issue with the localization here. It’s conveying the same thing only the subtitles read like how someone who is speaking English would say it.
2:30 again it’s conveying the same thing as the Japanese, just reworded in a way that sounds like someone who speaks English would say it with the subtitles.
3:43 Yes it’s just the creators trying to satisfy a western audience, it can’t at all be the fact the last game was about highlighting people on the margins and how vulnerable they are might lead to them examining their own bias toward LGBTQ people. Again, nothing here is an issue regarding artistic integrity.
5:30 Nagoshi himself created the Like A Dragon series as a response to GTA and one of the main reasons for it was because of the senseless violence you can do to random people and regular use of guns as a negative. Yokoyama wanting to tell different stories away from the Yakuza at a time culturally where the Yakuza are dissoluting and the characters in the game are in a place that a break from that is likely necessary.
stop using Nagoshi as the good ol' days of the Yakuza series, Yakuza is in way better hands and just fyi, the last project which Nagoshi had big involment is 5, you know? the one BEFORE 0. zero being the one everyone praises about how good it was and how it made so many people play the game? Funnily enough Yokoyama is probably the face of the Yakuza series by now, he's the one who worked most in the franchise and i'm tired of people acting like he's a newbie
Also this video ommits some information regarding some decisions, first and foremost Gaiden had a physical release, in Japan. which is an odd choice, but it's not like the game didn't have ANY form of physical release, not having it overseas is probably due to the insanely fast production of the game. Also how a like a dragon had ng+ in the base game, not because of backlash, but simply because the Japanese release and the worldwide release were more than half a year apart. IW was on worldwide steam on day 1, of course this is an issue that had to be addressed, but most media and most "fans" started complaining about 1 week before the release, even though it was relatively known information for months (even though some people coped that it was just some information that was badly translated). Regarding the localization, Darryl Kurylo didn't do a good enough job to be called back to be a protagonist, and YongYea was already in SEGA's voice acting "team", I the same as most people, think it's one of the worst casting decisions, maybe ever? but it's not like they're trying to SOY you or anything, just a bad choice. and regarding most of the translation, yes it can sound weird at times, but this is mostly due to lack of context to the whole scene. Sometimes the translators have to LOCALIZE (that's new, huh) some sentences so that it does not sound robotic. Unfortunately, we're not dealing with some anime fansub or russion book that can have the localized text and some note saying "actually in the original text blank was used for blank reason" so they just make it sound more human, after all LAD relies heavily on good dialogue and very specific japanese humor in their stories (kaito saying they're coming on to us or smth, who knows, knows). So yeah, you're overreacting.
@@fernandooctavio4105True, couldn’t agree more. It’s exactly because of the Japanese language and it’s unique cultural implications, colloquialisms etc that makes localization so difficult. Granted the casting wasn’t the best (I personally never play such games in Eng dub btw) but just labeling it as “woke” doesn’t mean anything. People complain about THAT saeko scene fairly at the beginning and I was like “that’s the reason why some ‘long time Yakuza fans’ go scorched earth with the entire series?😂”
Crusty 240p twitter screenshots and unfunny memes where you didn't even bother cropping the ifunny logo out are a great representation for the overall quality of this rant Also, next time you make fun of someone for being soy, try to not sound like you stutter while ordering at McDonalds or passing out after doing one push up yourself And the absolute idiocy of calling yourself a "true fan" because you don't wanna play the new game because it caters to the wrong people but in the same breath vouching for Ishin, when it's THE prime example of why RGG sucks at remaking and remastering their games, and it features the nonsensical and completely out of place cancer that is the vtuber cards, which actually affect the gameplay
And nobody shook their heads at GTA comparisons because GTA is a western game, but because both games are about crime, but GTA has a completely different gameplay, story focus and themes than the Yakuza games And if you seriously think it's a bad comparison because GTA is a western game series and Yakuza is not, then you are not only stupid, but also clearly not as much of a fan of Yakuza as you proclaim to be, but I am not expecting much from someone who only parrots what the Twitter algorithm throws in front of him anyways
What’s up with these fake yakuza fans trying to act like the game is going down hill when the game still peak. They just scream out of touch losers. If they played yakuza 3 they would’ve had had a meltdown when Kiryu is shown to be pro trans and teaches on of his daughters that racism is bad.😂😂😂😂
Kiryu teaching the kids not be racist is not a bad thing, Kiryu tought the children a lot in Yakuza 3, such as respect and communication, none of those things were done for a modern day audience or to be suitable for modern day sensibilities. I mentioned in the video how the writing has suffered due to Yokoyama explaining RGG works closely with the localizers, I have the links to videos from Censored Gaming in the description to get all the info and direct quotes from Yokoyama. Abandoning the Yakuza themes in favor of telling new stories is nonsense and only takes away a huge part of the identity of the series, besides it's not like the yakuza no longer exist, just like the mafia still exist. To guys like you, Like A Dragon 9, 10, 11, 12, and so fourth will all be peak and any criticism will not be tolerated by shills because critical thinking only applies to you guys if it's required when it's the next characters turn to attack in battle.

Same. He was the Kiryu I got used to in PS2 days. He has a sterner nore tough guy demeanor to him. But his voice (and age) stilll fits Kiryu better than that diminutive midget
Wild how those 'woke' moments take up .3% of the dialogue in story and the doom and glum you feel has nothing to do with the story of said game. Though i do agree that new game plus is scumy and some of those goofy scenes can be bad but there not to much worse than the 2 tigers, bull or bear fights in prior games, Yakuza is known for its wacky side like a chicken helped save yakuza in the west. Also the game doesnt denounce its past kiryus whole story revoles around his legscy same with his side missions.
The quality of Yakuza 0 saved the series not a chicken in a side story. People who even disagree with my video said Infinite Wealth's story is a mess, which was something I brought up when I mentioned the localizers and the feminist writing, I stated (not verbatim) I wouldn't be surprised if other aspects of the writing took a hit. Which it seems like it did, since Yokoyama said RGG works closely with localizers early in development, he also mentioned how RGG talks with localizers to reassure their games meet global standards (aka modern day sensibilities). Thus wanting to Westernize the series, and I left links in the description from Censored Gaming that explains more about what's going on at Sega and RGG, even direct quotes from Yokoyama himself.

Well first off, you didn't play the game, so no one here should even watch the whole video of you yapping and getting your info from Twitter. Secondly, I think this game's biggest problem is the writing, and no, not the "woke" writing which is practically non existent. It's not knowing what do to with this 60 hour game story wise. 7's story was way better and much more focused. Ichiban's side of the story in Hawaii was pretty mid, a whole lot of nothing going on, and Kiryu's side of the story is kind of decent but also just a whole bunch of missed opportunities and non-payoffs. I been a fan since 2011 with the OG Y1 and Y2, the writing in these games has always been hit or miss even before this, look at Yakuza 4 and 5, games are praised and both great from a gameplay perspective but the stories are nonsensical.
That's a long comment in response to someone who didn't play the game who was "yapping" in the video, but thanks for watching. You do know the images shown from X had links to articles? You also know that in the video I stated that there's videos in the description from Censored Gaming that further explains the whole situation with Infinite Wealth, but of course you didn't bother to look into that because it would show how Westernized the game is compered to previous Yakuza games. Yokoyama defended the localizers and explained how RGG works closely with localizers early in development, also stating RGG looks for reassurance from localizers to meet global standards (aka modern day sensibilities). What does localizers help studios with? Oh yeah the script, which relates to how story and characters are written, odd the story in this games seems to be an issue, not only is there feminist writing but the overall quality of the writing took a hit, which was something I mentioned in the video. Thanks for confirming the localizers that Sega and RGG defends and work closely with have indeed lowered the quality of Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth.
No matter what others have stated, or will state, Yakuza 6 REMAINS the definitive end of Kazuma Kiryu. The tagline, "The Song of Life", is self explanatory. Kiryu had no more regrets as he reached the end of the road. The end of his journey. There's nothing cooler than a man as powerful, cool, and inspiring as Kiryu, the IDEAL man, being content with his family and friends being alright, even if they'll never see or hear from him again. So long as they're alright, he's at peace. And if they are fine without him, it wouldn't bother him at all. We KNOW Kazuma Kiryu and HOW he'd respond, and it's NOT whatever was shown in this... Whatever this "game" is supposed to be. Certainly not Yakuza. Again, Kazuma Kiryu's story ended with Yakuza 6. He truly went out like a dragon in that game! 🐉👊 The Bugs Bunny bit was hilarious! 🤣 Facts on Kojima Hideo!!
Exactly! Yakuza 6 was a hreat send off to Kiryu and the series. Ichiban's journey could have been side games set in the Yakuza universe (like Judgment), but with Like A Dragon going forward it just feels like Sega and RGG are milking it with dragging Kiryu and other characters like Majima in stories that don't need them. Now RGG is going to ruin legacy characters from the Yakuza games, all to prop up Ichiban's journey in the Like A Dragon games, full of feminist writing and modern day sensibilities nonsense, while the identity of the series slowly fades away.
@@RevenantRemnant That would've been sooooooo awesome!!! 😃 It's something I've strongly clamored for Death Stranding 2, which unfortunately didn't happen. The story focusing on someone else. Death Stranding is obviously NOT for everyone, and it's not even a "game" in the traditional sense, but something I like despite recognizing its' glaring issues, and Kojima's obsession with wanting to play "film director". The series focusing on Ichiban would've been so refreshing and it just made sense! After Yakuza 6, WHERE does Kiryu go from there? That's why Ichiban stepping in, and the story being set YEARS after Yakuza 6, with the impact of Kiryu's departure being felt and Ichiban standing on his own, it felt like the dawn of a new era, you know? But like you said, my man, Sega have SOULED OUT and chose to milk both Kiryu and the Yakuza series, instead of being loyal to the fans who made them ALL their money. When Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that Dark Souls 3 would be the END of the Souls series, at least FOR A TIME, he meant it and stayed true to his word. Sega and RGG didn't.
Please enlighten me, where is this “feminist writing” in Like a dragon 1/2 ? People like you complain about how they cater to “western audiences” and yet I haven’t seen any instance of that occurring in a scene, (side) story, etc… This game is Japanese through and through.
Lmao this video is hilarious. You're so mad that your already progressive video game series decided to localize certain words to say shit like "independent woman" even though that's basically what the original japanese said because "waaaah feminism".
The conversation is not the exact same in Japanese, however as I stated in the video Yokoyama stated RGG works closely with localizers. So the Japanese script having some feminist writing similar to the English script still proves my point about the writing in Infinite Wealth and how Sega and RGG allowing localizers to be so involved is a problem for the series, but enjoy the obvious feminist writing and shill for a compromised series.
@@49mozzerSega and RGG working closely with localizers early in development in order to meet global standards (aka modern day sensibilities), if you know how terrible localizers have been recently then you should look into the games and anime they have ruined. Wanting to cater to global standards is not a good thing for a series that once pride itself on it's Japanese culture and Eastern appeal, shifting away from that by aiming to reach a modern audience over it's core fans will slowly but surely drive long time fans away. The Yakuza themes was part of the series identity and was one of many things that drew people in, drifting away from it or outright removing it will only take away the appeal and strip the series of it's identity. When the publisher and head developer openly talks about this stuff in interview, articles, and post, it shouldn't be hard to put the pieces together. Even Japanese fans have criticized them for the recent info from interviews and posts, because like many fans in the West, the Eastern fans don't want RGG to cater to the modern day audience and censor content to meet global standards. Videos going over all of this in the description to get up to date on what's been going on, if that's not enough you can go to Sega Japan's X/Twitter and read comments and translate the Japanese comments. Same with Yokoyama's X/Twitter posts to see other fans perspectives, one's that are not eating up everything Sega and RGG throws at them and labels any criticism as nit picking or non issues.
THANK YOU!!!! I've been waiting for a video like this 😭😭😭 You've said pretty much how I feel. Like you, I also started way way back (PS2 days.) The series has its ups and downs, but this time it's ridiculous. IW is the worst Yakuza game for me, in terms of the story. Like WTF. So true on all your points. This really feels like a betrayal for longtime fans.
I wish RGG had enough sense to not allow the popularity of the series get to them, but I knew it was only a matter of time until them and Sega tried to reach as many new comers as possible, even if it meant slowing abandoning their core audience. Funny thing is there's comments from people who disagree with my video that even said Infinite Wealth's story was lackluster and had issues. I said in the video how the localizers probably messed up other aspects of the story due to the feminist writing being in the game, and Yokoyama stated RGG works very closely with localizers early in development, making sure they meet global standards (aka modern day sensibilities). So it makes sense the story had issues, RGG and the localizers can't put together a good story, yet the Like A Dragon shills can't put the pieces together.
@RevenantRemnant Right? I'm a woman, and I don't like the woke, feminist SJW nonesense the localizers tried to add. Maybe my views are different because I'm Asian. But we don't nitpick as much as the West does. I'm all for women empowerment, but not at the cost of degrading and emasculating men. IDK why Western women and their SJW whiteknight ass-kissers seem so angry. I consider myself an "old gamer" since I am around Ichiban's age, lol. But this is NOT the Yakuza game I started with (PS2). The more the series stops being a Yakuza game, the more there will be nothing to differentiate it from the typical garbage that comes out nowadays. I've been feeling run-down and frustrated with the current state of the gaming industry. Your uploads are breath of fresh air, so thank you so much!
@@Grimoire7887thank you, I'm glad you enjoy my videos and comments like yours helps motivate me to keep saying what needs to be said. The Yakuza series trying to Westernize itself ruins the appeal, not just from people in the West but in other places in the world, the locations and story beats from the series are so unique and refreshing to see, especially with how bland most of modern gaming has been over the last few years. Companies like RGG need to understand what drew people to their games, men and women enjoy their games and don't feel offended or think it has to cater to the modern day audience, I know there's passionate fans that can't see the red flags but those of us that can see what's going on, and it's unfortunate to see this series go down this route.

"Yeah game studio is compromised and the creator is a hack, but try to play it man." What you said is enough for me to avoid playing the game, I read up on what's going on and even made a second video with additional information, I also watched the cutscenes. Why give compromised companies my money to just make a critique video that will basically echo what I was saying in this video and second video? I understand an in depth critique would be as informative, but ersonally I think not giving these companies my time and money sends a message, plus it would be hypocritical of me to do so.

While I agree with you on more than a few points, I believe most of you guys folks are way too focused on the globohomo/feminist agenda etc. I am a racist and homophobe but I still haven't been touched by those things in the game. Sure, if it was all up in your face - I'd probably be pissed as you. The story is still extremely good and at it's core, it's still a Yakuza game with a slightly different formula.
Sega is all about embracing ESG and American modern "culture". They've already made this very obvious in recent times, especially in the trailers they've been releasing to show that they're back on the market and want to be big again.
Alright listen, even if buying the game isn’t worth your money, I still think you should give a watch through on UA-cam a chance because the game’s quality hasn’t quite diminished as much as the stuff like marketing or the creator being an idiot would lead you to believe
I will still Support South Korea , Polish and Russian made games 🗿 ! South Korean made games are the new Revolution in gaming ❤!!! Double that I'll go to South Korea marry myself a hot South Korean military woman 😂 🤣 .
@@RevenantRemnant If that's the case then it is probably a switch situation since Jap movies are somehow starting to get more popular than Koreans recently for some reason so things are balanced out. Library of Ruina is the last good Korean game anyway
I don’t want to watch this whole video so forgive me. But did you even play these games? Like actually play them? Not just the main story but the side content as well? Yakuza series have always been “woke”
I've played a lot of the side stories, but since you don't want to watch the whole video and rush to the comments, I won't bother explaining any further. The explanation might be in the replies somewhere in a comment, since you can't watch the whole video, maybe you can search deep in the comments.
PEOPLE NEED TO LOOK PAST THERE INFINITE LOVE FOR THE FRANCHISE AND SEE THO THAT ANY WOKE BS AND TRYING TO APPEAL BS IS BECOMING A PROBLEM I MEAN HECK GUYS WTF IS YAKUZA 8 REALLY ABOUT? ICHIBAN LOOKING FOR HIS MOM.... NOTHING GRITTY ABOUT IT AND ITS KIND OF A CRINGE STORY AND THEY MISSHANDLE KIRYU SO MUCH NOWADAYS Not even this franchise was immune to corporation and woki#m
True, I saw most of the cutscenes for Infinite Wealth and didn't like how Ichiban was portrayed, at times he acted like a simp and was hoping he would have grown more since Yakuza 7, but in Infinite Wealth he's still goofy and overly emotional. No company is immune to selling out or making unnecessary changes, basically like you said, another company going along with woke bs, and it's going to drag the series down slowly but surely. People need to think logically and put the brand loyalty aside, a bunch of Like A Dragon shills commenting on emotions rather than actually listening and looking at what's being shown, not just from this video but they can look at what Sega and Yokoyama posted themselves.
Tho I gotta say, Gaiden was still pretty good. I played in JP dub of course, after all the story was "already written" in the sense that it connects to Y6 via Kiryu and the Daidoji. Playing 7 was tolerable because the story was good amd still stayed within Yakuza's element, albeit the turn-based aspect. Everything about I.W. is ridiculous. It was better graphics, sure. More minigames and content, but the story sucked ass and they did poor Kiryu rotten. Yokoyama ruined everything Nagoshi built. The former needs to be fired as it feels like he will bury the series or transform it to cater to the woke crowd.
The graphics look great, no doubt about that, actually yesterday I was watching the cutscenes for Infinite Wealth and while it looks great visually, I can see why the story is getting a mixed reception. I didn't watch all the cutscenes yet but from what I've seen so far just confirms what I've seen over the last few weeks as far as how Sega and RGG have been acting when it comes to localizers and meeting global standards. Early on Ichiban acts like a simp towards Saeko after she agrees to hang out with him, there's other scenes where it seems like he hasn't grown since Yakuza 7, he acts more goofy and overly emotional than he did in Y7, and the character motivations don't seem strong or very convincing. Yokoyama wrote for past Yakuza games but with him being in a higher position in RGG, he seems compromised along with the rest at RGG because now they are trying to Westernize the series and in comes issues and controversy.
@RevenantRemnant Oh it all feels so different after Nagoshi left. I.W. has Kiryu callbacks, but it felt like RGG kicking the can down the street. The self-inssrtion is rife too. Yokoyama made Kiryu's hair like his and Ryusukw Horii inserted his cancer diagnosis (that he allegedly survived). Poor Kiryu deserves better
Wants to move away from the Yakuza|crime themes, yet paywalls the series' staple New Game+ lol. I'm now playing through 0 so I can start to 100% it and finally move on to Kiwami 1&2. Will probably stop caring after that since I've already 100% the original Japanese RgG3 on PS3 during my younger years.
That would be your best bet, they are definitely worth playing. Besides the older games should be pretty cheap in price by now, unless you try to get the PS2 Yakuza games, though they already got remade on PS4, PC, and ai believe on Xbox One as well.
@@daichiboiit sucks but I try to remember to tell myself that the things I enjoy can be ruined by the current state of entertainment, but hopefully in time RGG will see that what they are doing will undo any good faith built over the years with fans.
It really sucks to see this series get "westernized". Yakuza is not only a series that I loved and looked forward to since starting with 0 (when it was a PS4 exclusive) but one that influenced me a ton since it furthered my intrest in japanese culture. One of my stories (a martial arts fantasy story) is very influenced by it, so much so that it was the foundation for some of the story and characters. To see yakuza 8 and the yakuza series nowadays like this, it hurts :(
I started with Yakuza 0 and continued to play the games that came out after, I even found a copy of Yakuza 1 on PS2 to play before Kiwami 1 came out. It sucks to see this series go down this route, shying away from it's Japanese roots in favor to get noticed by people who didn't care about the series until recently, that's the vibe I got from Like a Dragon Gaiden and Infinite Wealth, based on how Sega and RGG marketed both games.
@@RevenantRemnant yeah I really hate seeing Japanese focused IP’s turning “western” and just ignoring their roots and core audience. I enjoy yakuza (along with other Japanese IP’s) cause they aren’t like western ones, their different and unique for that reason. Also forgot to mention on my first comment that yakuza is what also got me into lots of other JRPGS like FF and many others, it was essentially my gateway to other series that I wouldn’t have played if not for yakuza
Good thing i play with japanese audio and portuguese subtitles even though my japanese is better than my english. I dont play games made by westerners. Also dont thinj its westernized, the game has tons of japanse celebrities and even mascots. Also, Nagoshi didnt write a single game in the series. Yokoyama is in Sega since 1999 and wrote all the series games since 2005. Respect him. Even though he had a hard year, lost his mother to cancer, you dont know him. He deserves our respect. Also Gaiden had physical release in Asia. Also, Nagoshi also criticezed violence and Grand Theft Auto.
Gaiden may be the last one I play going forward seeing this, and I just replay the other titles, that game didn’t really have any nonsense besides the voice we know, and bullshit DLC but that’s been there for a while. Doesn’t have any localizer stuff besides the usual cringe in substories.
And only way to get Physical gaiden is import it, the games with worldwide releases already have English and other language options in all releases so there’s that.
And for Ishin Kiwami, in my opinion it’s not really that great, doesn’t have any nonsense but overall inferior to the original and the only thing I can really say it does is translate the game since the original is Asia only. They also paywalled a difficulty and interestingly even content that was in the original, but I wouldn’t know much since I only bought the base game.
@@RevenantRemnant Yeah they increased the fog on the QTE, and also removed the last post credits scene, I’d recommend picking up the original if you don’t mind language barrier. It’s also easier than the original too now that I just remembered.
I'm going to Japan this year before vandalists destroy that country too. Appreciate this content and I hate the word content so I'll call it gamer honesty. For the algo.
Honestly both this video and those censored gaming videos are a massive overreaction, a lot of things people complain about relating to yokoyama literally apply to nagoshi to an arguably greater extent

Yokoyama doesn't deserve respect because his mother passed away, my grandmother passed away last month but that doesn't mean I deserve respect. Just because Yokoyama wrote for the games does not mean he's not currently influenced by the West, I left videos in the description from Censored Gaming where in one of the videos there's direct quotes from Yokoyama where he defended the localizers and explained how RGG works closely with the localizers early in development. Obviously not everything in the series has been stripped of it's Japanese culture, but slowly it will the more Sega and RGG try to get the Like A Dragon series as mainstream as possible, and with each new release it seems they are trying to do that, once again Yokoyama explained they work with localizers to ensure the games meet global standards (aka modern day sensibilities).
Been a fan of this franchise since I started at 4 on the PS3 in 2012. Which was around 2 years after its release. I even liked Dead Souls despite the flaws it has. I'm so used to the Japanese voices anyway. I'm not a huge JRPG head. I mainly played Pokémon until the gen 3 remakes and I stopped after that. Still never played FF7 original and other super popular ones out there. So LAD 7 It always irks me when it was compared to GTA. Seeing as how passive the combat is compared to GTA along with other things as well. Having said all that, I don't trust a lot of japanese devs that want to cater to the west/ESG. I play japanese games because I like the japanese culture and their unique identity and their interpretation. If I want to play games that's westernized, I'd play western games. Ishin (though, they censored the that one bossfight with the extra steam) may be my last. Maybe Gaiden.
Damn, sucks Ishin got censored, guess I'll skip that one too. I feel the same way you do, I play Japanes games for what it offers that Western games don't, the culture and uniqueness draws me differently compared to what draws me to Western games. Sega and RGG failing to see that is very unfortunate, embracing woke localizers is a bad sign for the future of the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, it's something a lot of fanboys/fangirls won't be able to grasp due to their attachment to the series, but at some point they will have to see the forest from the trees.

Im convinced he hasnt even played the game LMAO, the entire fucking plot revolves around the seiryu clan be so fr
I'm talking about Sega and RGG Westernizing the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series for the modern day audience. It was clear by the title and thumbnail, and what was said in the video, try to pay attention instead of running to the comments acting emotional because I didn't praise something you like.
It is weird to give yakuza an english dub if im being honest. Now don get me wrong and hoping to be civil, the eng dub for like a dragon really good in my opinion. Sure i do agree that yongyea sounds too young as kiryu. but i think the hate is just a bit exaggerated. maybe i have seen worse eng dub than this. it is an interesting perspective, oh jus to let you know. actually yongyea also did talk about the controversy of the new game plus.
He talked about the new game + controversy with Yakuza 7 not Infinite Wealth, he was not voicing Kiryu in Yakuza 7's English dub. My criticism toward the Engliah dub mainly has to do with Yongyea voicing Kiryu, which is why I only made mention of him and no other voice actor.
@@RevenantRemnant really?? I understand he blocked you, but he really was talking about infinite wealth new game + controversy. i mean even devilleon7 believes he's talking about infinite wealth controversy. surely he wouldn't just talk about yakuza 7 new game plus that's already been over for quite sometime you got strong opinions, but i hope im not causing trouble. you have a good reason anyway. so trying my best to be civil here, i just hope you respect my opinion that yongyea is young, but he starts to grow on me.

idk i find the games fine. sure theyre appealing to western modern audiences a bit too much now but they still feel as fun to play as they always have and idrm the new stuff added. most of the time its just like one short mistranslated sentence or one side character you *never* see again. also the angry redditor hate for yong being kiryu that still exists in the community is wild 💀i dont like the dude but the voice is alright.
I understand your concern but this video really blows these problems out of proportion, but first i will absolutly agree that the tone-shift feels pretty weird honestly. Yakuza games were never afraid of being light-hearted but that wasnt like half the game and i also really dislike how its getting less realistic: Yakuza does bend reality but the fights and themes are still human enough where as in 8 you fight Giant Sharks and open a island resort, that tone-shift i do really dislike. But now for where i disagree: this "woke appeal to western fans" feels very overblown, first of all saekos localised line wasnt woke, it just stated that she was a strong woman and wouldnt be compelled by what ichiban said and thats a fact and not some woke thing which got included due to localisation, it also fits with how saeko was characterised in 7. Im not fond of woke culture but in my opinion people like you do overblow minor things like that to make the issue appear bigger (and its a big issue so why focus on one singular line which barely counts as "woke"?). Overall i also share these concerns but more so because with the change in leadership and also sega apparently getting more involved, the games quality may be hit and whilst yakuza did have weaker games, im afraid that could become a main stay. But focusing most of your video on this woke figment (localisation being too "western") does feel like a waste of a good opportunity to talk about these concerns.
The wokeness goes hand in hand, the localizers changing aspects of the game due to RGG working closely with them early in development says a lot, and the English and Japanese dialogue are not the exact same, it also shows how compromised RGG are. As I stated in the video, I left links to videos from Censored Games that further explains what I was saying, one video has direct quotes from Yokoyama. Sega and RGG want to make sure Yakuza/Like A Dragon series meets global standards (aka modern day sensibilities), and if you are familiar with that type of working from companies then you'll know it's not good and will just alienate fans.
@@RevenantRemnant Pretty much!! 😂 I NEVER reacted the way he did, after seeing many speak ill about Dark Souls 2, because no matter what the game is still LEAGUES better than the majority of games released, and it even has started to have more recognizing it as an underrated gem.
I know that the Yakuza games have their cult following, but I never really been a fan of these games, they're ok but they're just not as great as most people say they are. There's no driving, no actual shooting, and the exploration is limited to small maps. If ya'll want to play a much better open world crime/gangster game set in an Asian city, then you'll be much better off playing SLEEPING DOGS. At least that has actual driving, shooting, and a huge open world Hong Kong metropolis to explore. Plus on top of that, when I used to play Yakuza back on the PS2/PS3, every time I wanted to just get from point A to point B, I always had to run as fast through the streets as possible in order to avoid being forced into an unskippable fight with some random thug NPC, thus preventing me from exploring locations in peace. At least in Sleeping Dogs, if you weren't in the mood to fight enemies on the street, you can easily just run away allowing you to skip the altercation altogether.
@@Hunterese123 Yeah I know that the Yakuza games have good minigames, and the games have always had good stories, im not taking anything away from the devs accomplishments. I'm just not a fan of the gameplay style. I consider Yakuza to be more of a brawler than an open world crime/gangster game.
Sleeping Dogs is a great game and wish got a sequel, but the Yakuza series are not quite the same, it's very story driven and more like a 3D beat'em up. One thing that annoyed me about the Yakuza games was being stopped by side stories from npcs, there's some great side stories but sometimes you want to continue the main story, especially when things get tense.
I'd rather the games as they are now without seeing Kiryu run around with an AK-47 like its GTA 5 then hop inside a sports car and kill everyone on a sidewalk.
Yong did alright on the dub i guess.. I expected more since i really liked the dub for Judgment and Lost Judgment, idk if its because they think hiring a youtuber for Kiryu on the dub was a great idea or the direction became bad again like its the ps2 yakuza 1 dub again. Im not even sure if i call it westernizing but more of bad marketing and casting but overall, when IW goes onsale i hope i enjoy it despite the controversy since i usually try my best to focus on the positive side.
He does alright on the dub. There were definitely better options but it is what it is now. Most hate he gets is people who act like 12 year old redditors atp.
He does alright. like after hearing him voice kiryu many times. it's kinda like you grow onto him. but it is true that he sounds young. but...not the worse.
@@RevenantRemnant Way to jump to incorrect assumptions. I ask the right questions, such as "are literal and accurate translations really better when they are devoid of the context of the relevant culture?" For an example of why context is important for translations (i.e., localization), watch the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Darmok". Also, please stop being confrontational.
@@dvader518"stop being confrontational" did you read your original comment, now you want to play the victim because I refuse to let you get away with running your mouth in my comments section on my video, but thanks for watching. I explained why the localization can be an issue, turns out it was, seeing there's comments from people who disagree with me say the story in Infinite Wealth was lackluster and had issues. The context has to be relevant to the populace as a whole because most localizers involved in these games (such as Sega) are left leaning and have put their ideologies in games and have even removed aspects of certain games, the context should not reflect their thoughts and beliefs, and seeing how certain scenes play out in Infinite Wealth, such as the one image shown in the video, clearly the localizers took some liberty in parts of the game. Seeing how moat localizers nowadays can't properly translate scripts but instead find ways to put their agendas in the translated scripts, however Yokoyama stated RGG works very closely with localizers early in development and make sure things are up to global standards (aka modern day sensibilities). I said in the video there's links in the description to videos from Censored Gaming that further explains what's going on at Sega and RGG, speaking of Sega they received a lot of push back from their series of post on X/Twitter, even Japanese accounts voiced their displeasure (once translated to English). Same goes for Yokoyama's series of post on X, he too received push back from fans, seems fans from the West and East don't like this new direction from Sega and RGG, because not all change is good and being a consoomer pig that accepts everything is why studios get away with egregious business practices and steering ongoing series in the wrong direction.
Sucks to see the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series embrace localizers and modern day Western ideologies, all to gain recognition from fake journalists and social media activists, while slowly rejecting their core audience that got into the series for what it brought to the table that other games didn't.
i dont get how a lesbian vtuber whos a fan of the series that likes a character as a cameo is a bad thing.

We stay on Japanese dub, who would even play these in English is beyond me

yakuza? you mean the game franchise about big, buff sweaty men fighting each other shirtless? you mean the one where one of the protagonists dresses as a woman, pole dances for his opponent, is obsessed with him and seemed disappointed when he couldn't kiss a man? you mean the game where kiryu reassures a trans woman that she's valid? you mean the game that makes fun of people against sex work? that yakuza? WOKE??? oh my god, who could've thought.
Appealing to a "modern audience" will always be a downfall.
I don't know enough about the issue to have an opinion, I think a lot of people are the same
Adachi is the same guy who asked Saeko to say "I love you" with Kansai accent btw
4:40 ummm there is a lot of overlap in fandom of metal gear and Yakuza because of the similar autor vision of B movie silliness and Oscar drama.
Your entire video is just an old man yells at sky meme.
stop using Nagoshi as the good ol' days of the Yakuza series, Yakuza is in way better hands and just fyi, the last project which Nagoshi had big involment is 5, you know? the one BEFORE 0. zero being the one everyone praises about how good it was and how it made so many people play the game?
So yeah, you're overreacting.
btw who's fucked is the sonic franchis with Ian being the worst writer in human history change my mind

And the absolute idiocy of calling yourself a "true fan" because you don't wanna play the new game because it caters to the wrong people but in the same breath vouching for Ishin, when it's THE prime example of why RGG sucks at remaking and remastering their games, and it features the nonsensical and completely out of place cancer that is the vtuber cards, which actually affect the gameplay
And nobody shook their heads at GTA comparisons because GTA is a western game, but because both games are about crime, but GTA has a completely different gameplay, story focus and themes than the Yakuza games
And if you seriously think it's a bad comparison because GTA is a western game series and Yakuza is not, then you are not only stupid, but also clearly not as much of a fan of Yakuza as you proclaim to be, but I am not expecting much from someone who only parrots what the Twitter algorithm throws in front of him anyways
Technically only one of them was a Vtuber
Sad to see Sega going down this path.

Also the game doesnt denounce its past kiryus whole story revoles around his legscy same with his side missions.
The quality of Yakuza 0 saved the series not a chicken in a side story.

What does localizers help studios with? Oh yeah the script, which relates to how story and characters are written, odd the story in this games seems to be an issue, not only is there feminist writing but the overall quality of the writing took a hit, which was something I mentioned in the video.

@@RevenantRemnant I aint reading all that, play the game then come back, the writings been hit or miss since Yakuza 4 lmao.
The Bugs Bunny bit was hilarious! 🤣
Facts on Kojima Hideo!!
It's something I've strongly clamored for Death Stranding 2, which unfortunately didn't happen.
People like you complain about how they cater to “western audiences” and yet I haven’t seen any instance of that occurring in a scene, (side) story, etc…

@@RevenantRemnant How does any of that prove your point?

@@RevenantRemnantyakuza dead souls is more peak than 8.
Kiryu has cancer ? Huh I was just skipping cutscene because the story is shit
Gaiden may be the last one I play going forward seeing this, and I just replay the other titles, that game didn’t really have any nonsense besides the voice we know, and bullshit DLC but that’s been there for a while. Doesn’t have any localizer stuff besides the usual cringe in substories.
Edited because I just saw I made some errors, was half asleep when I wrote that too
And only way to get Physical gaiden is import it, the games with worldwide releases already have English and other language options in all releases so there’s that.
@@MadDogSoloI also heard they censored a boss fight in Ishin, so I may skip it and stick with the previous Yakuza games.
Thanks!
Enjoy Japan, I heard it's getting hectic there but hopefully things get resolved before it gets worse.

So LAD 7
It always irks me when it was compared to GTA.
Sega and RGG failing to see that is very unfortunate, embracing woke localizers is a bad sign for the future of the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, it's something a lot of fanboys/fangirls won't be able to grasp due to their attachment to the series, but at some point they will have to see the forest from the trees.

all this dude said was "Yong yea sucks.
I understand he blocked you, but he really was talking about infinite wealth new game + controversy. i mean even devilleon7 believes he's talking about infinite wealth controversy. surely he wouldn't just talk about yakuza 7 new game plus that's already been over for quite sometime
you got strong opinions, but i hope im not causing trouble. you have a good reason anyway. so trying my best to be civil here, i just hope you respect my opinion that yongyea is young, but he starts to grow on me.
@@Darkslayer9213he was talking about Yakuza 7 not Infinite Wealth, people even made mention of him not talking about Infinite Wealth's NG+ paywall, and as for I know Yongyea didn't block me but I know he blocked a few people and people I follow on X.
I appreciate the civil back and fourth, I take no issue with different opinions.
Man that island mini game suck god 3 days just to get my money from guess fucking bole shit
If you use dubs on anything, I feel sorry for you.
Also, this video sounds like a coomer preaching 😂. No offense, it's just hilarious 😂
idk i find the games fine. sure theyre appealing to western modern audiences a bit too much now but they still feel as fun to play as they always have and idrm the new stuff added. most of the time its just like one short mistranslated sentence or one side character you *never* see again.
also the angry redditor hate for yong being kiryu that still exists in the community is wild 💀i dont like the dude but the voice is alright.

Thanks for watching. 😎
If I had a time machine I would have Yakuza end at 2, that was the last good Yakuza game ever.
It's meant to be a pocket size of Japan, reason why the world is nice and compact, some of the best minigames and side quests the Yakuza games have.
I'd rather the games as they are now without seeing Kiryu run around with an AK-47 like its GTA 5 then hop inside a sports car and kill everyone on a sidewalk.
you can drive in yakuza 5 + you can taxi and in de games you can run from fights
He does alright. like after hearing him voice kiryu many times. it's kinda like you grow onto him. but it is true that he sounds young. but...not the worse.
and yet infinite wealth is the best yakuza game since 5 and 0 LMAOOOOOOOOO
Grow up and stop being afraid of change.

@@dvader518you do ask the right questions, you ask how much lube to use before dropping your pants for Sega and RGG.
@@RevenantRemnant Way to jump to incorrect assumptions.
I ask the right questions, such as "are literal and accurate translations really better when they are devoid of the context of the relevant culture?"
For an example of why context is important for translations (i.e., localization), watch the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Darmok".
