Can we just take a moment of silence for the unconditional love the Emperor has for Empress Ki... even though she didn’t love him back in the beginning, he still loved her through it all and wanted to protect her. Even when he received the fake love letters for 5 whole YEARS, he still stayed by her side and loved her. Even when everyone was telling him she’s power-hungry, he still trusted and had faith in her, and even when he’s angry or drunk, he only looked at her. Everything he did was for her, and to protect her. I’m dying omg where do I find a love like this ;_;

She was his first friend, his first loyal subject, the first one to be honest with him, she made him grow up, she helped him fight back against Yeoncheol, but she was also his first love. He was so lonely, and eventually she became the only one he could trust, so yeah, him being so obsessed is natural. But I think he really did love her. Maybe in a bit of a possessive way, but still.
it’s so sad that he died in the end 😩😩

I don’t know why people get so confused with Seungnyang’s feelings. if u analyze it more u will notice seungnyang was into tahwan at first. but the betrayal happened so it stopped. then wang yu came into the picture. their love for each other happened so fast like all of a sudden they’re in love w each other.
that’s also why when wang yu proposed to her she was having second thoughts, remembered ta hwan and cried. that’s why she didn’t accept the proposal at first.
what she felt for wang yu was more like admiration, gratitude, infatuation and pity. he was her hero and the king of goryeo. she looked up to him. he saved her. she did love him tho especially she was the father of her child. but u can see that her feelings for the emperor grew more strongly as time passes by. she was in denial at first and that she’s starting to feel afraid. and the moment she fell for the emperor, what she only felt for wang yu was care. and nah, she didn’t love wangyu till he died. she even said to ta hwan that someday he will know her feelings. u can do the things she did but that doesn’t mean u still love them.
and that’s also why she’s more concerned about tahwan’s feelings when he killed wang yu. that’s also why she was so afraid that he will leave her or be done with her.
seungnyang/ empress ki even said it herself. “and i love you. i truly.. truly.. love you. i love you.” as she cries her heart out.
that’s what she wanted to tell him. she said someday he will know her feelings. she’s just stubborn and prideful to be true to her feelings. she even planned to say it till they’re old and gray. now it’s too late.
whenever she’s with wang yu, she’s so formal. but whenever she’s with tahwan she can be herself. she can be silly, playful, she can joke around, she smiles a lot, she laughs a lot
at the final scene, it showed the scene where she chooses tahwan over wang yu then rode the horse together with him. it can be interpreted in many ways like even though the path that she will take with ta hwan is rough and painful, she will always choose ta hwan.
even though the emperor’s was dark, has a lot of issues with himself, has his inner monster, messy life, very troublesome, despite of all the despties, she still loved him. she understands him. she accept everything about him. she never left him and even fought everyone so that their she, ayu and ta hwan will have a good life together.
wang yu may be her first love but ta hwan is her greatest love. their love for each other is deep.
seungnyang, especially ta hwan are both complex characters. their love for each other are complex too. wang yu’s character was easy to love. perfect, no flaws, no problem, no weaknesses, like a hero. he’s like a mary sue. maybe because like they said the writers (korean ofc) are biased because wang yu is a korean.
You spoke my mine. People online keep saying she didn’t love ta hwan, all she has was a sense of duty as the empress. That’s not true. She had a lot of admiration for king wang yu but she natural fell in love with ta hwan, until he betrayed her. When wang purposes she thinks of ta hwan and cry then contemplate it for a day before accepting. Imagine telling a man to forget you and never look for you but still thinking about him when you get proposed to after that scene of leaving him.

The Emporor has maybe the greatest story arch in Kdrama history. From abdoned kid with no influence over his future to the king who sacrifieced himself for his wife and son.
All other figures are basecly the same trough the whole drama.

The union after the coronation was suggested by both jcw and hjw to show their love for each other,when th kiss her forehead i was wondering why we only get to see him kiss her forehead,knowing it now it actually means,he respected her,care and love her(despite the fact that he just learn she had a baby with wy and shes been hiding secret all these time)and he will honour her forever..

The craziest thing about this drama is, the watchers can't help but to fall in love with that relentless king's character at the end... Ya, if i think further, if i were that King, i'd definitely do the same thing. Because she's my only strength. I maybe did worse tho. Fantastic drama.

this is the greatest drama I have ever watched. The level of romance was insane. The difference of Empress Ki from other great historical K-dramas was its emphasis on how much a love between a man and a woman can rule an empire. It's very different from the other great dramas I have watched where the main characters seem to set aside romance to focus on power. Here the power is romance and it controls everything. I love Ta Hwan so much. He is such a pure man who incidentally wears the robe of an emperor. Yes, it is so heart melting to see someone loves you that much. Empress Ki is so lucky and I am somehow disappointed that Ki does not reciprocate Tahwan's energy. Although she really does love him in her own way but somehow the energy is not the same. It's like Tahwan shows how much he needs her but Seung nyang shows how much she does not need him. Seungnyang became so cold toward Tahwan for a period of time but nevertheless Tahwan still accepted her. It's crazy. I'm so in love.

But only because her love for Wang Yu was nothing but pure as his for her...those glances and heart wrenching stares into each other's eyes...but atleast she finally learned to love the emperor in the end...this is one of those tragic but satisfying endings that's rare and beautiful nonetheless...

She did love wang yu but at the end it turned to pity while her feelings for the yuan emperor turned from hatred to pity to pure love. Wang yu is her first love and the father of her first child. But, the yuan emperor is her real true love. The emperor is weak, incapable of becoming a great emperor but she did everything in her power to make him a great emperor...
Remember the hunting contest scene? he took the arrow that was intended to empress ki? He was a puppet leader to tanagishi's father just to keep him alive. But yet, he didn't mind dying for sung yang. Remember the scene when she said that she started to get afraid? Remember when she said that her greatest fear is if the emperor to stop loving her and would abandon her? He raped her but forgiven. Remember how her emperor killed wang yu but is forgiven and instead just hugged him, cried with him, feel so bad that he was broken hearted and gave her sweet hug to tell him that she's there for him. She did everything to protect the emperor. She said multiple times that one day he will know how she truly feels for her and that her greatest fear is him being gone in her life.
Wang yu is believed to die many times but her life still continued to live happily with the emperor and her prince despite of all the challenges around her. Wang yu was her most loyal ally who helped her fight against corruption. All the things that she's done was to make the emperor stronger, great and respectable at the same time helping the people. She hugged wang yu when he died but those tears were all pettiness because he has done everything for her and she knows that he never stopped loving her while she feel so bad because her heart truly belongs to the emperor... While the way she hugged and cry for the emperor's death was intense, full of pain and she kept telling how much she truly loved him...
I believe she deserves his love. Even though she doesn’t express it as outwardly as the Emperor bc that’s just her character. You can see it in the way of how much she helped Yuan and the Emperor even though she’s from Koryo, how she handled Wang Yoo’s death, how she stayed by the Emperor’s side even after avenging her mother and father. If she didn’t love him, she wouldn’t have done any of this. So because she loves him, she deserves his love.
This drama makes me shed tears because it ends very sad and touching 😢 😢 should they live happily and no one is dead 💔😢💔💔
enjoyed watching this drama. a heart touching drama specially the end of the drama, feel the endless love ...the king loves the empress so much..
i think emperor loves her more. they both would have given their life for her true but wang yu would never give away his people to be with her. he will never shy away from his duties. although this proves the selfless ness and strength of his character, it also shows that his love does have some limits. but emperor on the other hand would have given every single penny he had and his empire just to be with her even when she acted like she didn't lov him.
In my opinion..the ending.of empress was.better than.the tragic love story of Jang ok Jung (also korea historical.drama) coz in empress Ki...togon protect his empress until his dying day😊

im half chinese and half filipino but my chinese history said the Emperor Togon died in old age at age 50 in which he did not die of poison. why kdrama die such young age. Oh come on Empress ki writers and researchers do a good research before you do show.I know it is fiction but once you started a great story at the beginning then make a good ending. This is why many of us dont like kdramas because the ending of final episode is sad. Our life is hard and this drama like Empress ki from the start of the episodes teaches about passion of our self and others. I love sungnyang Nyang in which she do is action speaks louder than words.I really love her and emperor togon. Im sorry i didnt watch the ending because its making me cry to see them apart. Im crying

Just finsished the drama. My heart broke into 1000 pieces for real. It is hard for her to choose who to be with and who to love for real when she loves them both and they love her too. I know it may sound sick but I finished these 51 episodes in 2 days. My hours just went for watching this drama. I love this drama for real. Still the ending broke my heart so much. I want to know more what happened. Theh all sacrificed themselves for her. I am so sad still. But I will never forget this drama. Love it💘

This drama started well..but then the writers ran out of ideas. A lot of stuff happening at close to the end do not make sense. OK, writers had to give some sense of historicity to the drama, but from the point of view of character and line development this drama is lacking. The actors, however, are excellent!!!

This drama was aired in Sri Lanka and the ending was just not right. It was so hard to bear. Just so sad. Such a motivational drama she deserved more

I agree. The emperor had to die because he was really incompetent. He isnway beyond Ki's strong personality. Why do they have to make a better ending for these two when in fact King of Goryo was better in so many aspects. The emperor was just damn lucky and no substance at all.

Both guys were there for her but I think the main difference between those 2 is how they grew up, wang yu who has so many friends backing him up and was teached how to fight, read and write. The emperor had none of that and the closest friend ended up backstabbing him for greed while the girl he loves tried to use him aswell.

what she felt for wang yu was more like admiration, gratitude, infatuation and pity. he was her hero and the king of goryeo. she looked up to him. he saved her. she did love him tho especially she was the father of her child. but u can see that her feelings for the emperor grew more strongly as time passes by. she was in denial at first and that she’s starting to feel afraid. and the moment she fell for the emperor, what she only felt for wang yu was care. and nah, she didn’t love wangyu till he died. she even said to ta hwan that someday he will know her feelings. u can do the things she did but that doesn’t mean u still love them.
and that’s also why she’s more concerned about tahwan’s feelings when he killed wang yu. that’s also why she was so afraid that he will leave her or be done with her.
seungnyang/ empress ki even said it herself. “and i love you. i truly.. truly.. love you. i love you.” as she cries her heart out.
that’s what she wanted to tell him. she said someday he will know her feelings. she’s just stubborn and prideful to be true to her feelings. she even planned to say it till they’re old and gray. now it’s too late.
whenever she’s with wang yu, she’s so formal. but whenever she’s with tahwan she can be herself. she can be silly, playful, she can joke around, she smiles a lot, she laughs a lot
at the final scene, it showed the scene where she chooses tahwan over wang yu then rode the horse together with him. it can be interpreted in many ways like even though the path that she will take with ta hwan is rough and painful, she will always choose ta hwan.
even though the emperor’s was dark, has a lot of issues with himself, has his inner monster, messy life, very troublesome, despite of all the despties, she still loved him. she understands him. she accept everything about him. she never left him and even fought everyone so that their she, ayu and ta hwan will have a good life together.
wang yu may be her first love but ta hwan is her greatest love. their love for each other is deep.
seungnyang, especially ta hwan are both complex characters. their love for each other are complex too. wang yu’s character was easy to love. perfect, no flaws, no problem, no weaknesses, like a hero. he’s like a mary sue. maybe because like they said the writers (korean ofc) are biased because wang yu is a korean.
i hate him i don;t like ta chwan he is weak fool selfish and how come nyang loved after he killed her father ,she should be with her first and only love with wang yoo the have many similarities this drama was good until she married to the emperor

Ugh i watched this before few years ago and i rewatched this again for the 3rd/4tht ime with my mom... its just sad how the king, emperor and taltal ended up. Its a sad ending to me😔its kinda depressing. Thats why i was having second thoughts about watching this again... Im annoyed by the fact that they made the emperor’s last day shitty with some shitty misunderstanding 😭ugh
