- In this video, I demonstrate how to recover a dropped cast-on stitch when you are using the long-tail cast-on. I hope you never need this technique, but I'm putting it out there for your reference if this ever happens to you!
The needles I'm using in this video are Knitter's Pride Ginger. The yarn is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky. The crochet hook is by Boye.
OMG, I knew you would have the answer, casting on 250 stitches again was about to make me cry! Thank you SO much for this!
You are the first person to ever show me this and I have been knitting for 53 years. Thanks for all your great videos.
You just saved me 236 cast on stitches and my sanity THANK YOU!!!
"And it comes unraveled! And everything's terrible! And I hate knitting!" That's me doing anything with lace weight...haha.
Wow....that make so much sense once you break it down.... like picking up any other dropped stitch. big thumbs up Staci !
Everytime there’s a mishap or an unfamiliar instruction in any of my projects, you usually are my first port of call. Thanks for being my rescue queen!
Where was this for the last 20 years of my life. Thank you!!!!😁😁😁
You saved my day. Thank you for all your hard work keeping us knitters sane. Willie B.
Oh thank you, you just saved me from pulling everything off my needles and casting on 88 stitches for the THIRD time! Now I need to find one of your videos that tells me how to have enough yarn for the long tail cast on the FIRST TIME!! 😂
Stacey, how do you do it?? I love your videos, and you are practically my only knitting teacher! It has been ages since I ran across a technique video that I really needed. But this one ... I need it just about every time I cast on a new project. You are brilliant! Thank you so much for all your videos! Like so many in the knitting community, I owe you! Thank you for explaining so many things so clearly so that I can enjoy my craft.
What a gem of a lesson!! I have been knitting for over 50 years, and have NEVER known how to fix this! Thank you!!
This has never once happened to me in over 50 years and I hope it never does. But if it ever does I’m all set!! Thanks Staci!
Thanks for uploading this video. Yes, how many times I dropped a cast on stitch and had to start again from begging! Next time I will pick up my dropped stitch with crochet hook like you showed me.
Staci, I knew you would have the perfect video to solve my knitting dilemma! Thank you thank you thank you!
"Oops, I hate knitting!" Hahaha😅... I'm a beginner knitter so I'm glad I saw this. I will NEVER forget it! Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm so glad I'm subscribed to your channel 🤗 Thank you!
Stacey, you are one amazing Lady, always helping us knitters with all your little knitting tricks. I’ve been knitting 65 years or more and never have I seen this before. I’m so glad I found you. You put the light into the newbie knitters lives, and take away their fear. Thank you for this. I’ll always be watching to see what I can learn, after knitting all these wonderful years. ❤️❤️
Thank you so much!! I have started over so many times after casting 60 stitches on for a sock and it never fails I drop the last stitch or two. I'm so thrilled to learn this!!!
Thank you for always taking the angst out of knitting issues.
I can't tell you how many times this has happened on way more stitches and I've had to re cast on. Thank you so much for this video.
Another excellent video. I always thought this was one knitting error I couldn’t come back from. Thank you! 😊
I’m so upset i didn’t search this on YT YEARS AGO
I’m literally today years old when I found out this was possible.
I would literally. Start all over again whenever this happened because I thought it was over.
😩😑
Thank. You. So much. For this video.
You always save the day with my random knitting questions!!
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for this!!! I'm sitting at home sick and was about to burst into tears at the thought of going back and frogging an entire 1x1 ribbing section of my latest project. You and all your videos give me so much joy and learning-- You are the best!!!
I learn something new every time I watch one of your tutorials!
Where has this trick been all my knitting life? I don't want to admit how many times I've had to redo a hundred + stitches on a cast-on because of a dropped stitch. Staci, you are my knitting hero!
you and me both!!
You are a life saver! I just dropped one and suddenly remembered “Staci has a video on this!!”
Staci, you have awesome demos on UA-cam for recovering our mistakes! Thank you 😊
The bright purple yarn is the best! Please use this yarn on all your tutorials!! Love it!!
OMG, you are an absolute gem, I fell asleep with 160 Cast on stitches on the needle, and one fell off. Its fiddly as they were tiny, but thanks to you, I didn't have to do it again. I've has to frog half this sockhead head hat, yesterday😢, and this wool is looking slightly felted, so I'd have a nightmare, if I'd have to frog it again THANKYOU 🥰😘💕
I often use a latch hook instead of a crochet hook for dropped stitches. Thank you for this tip
Great tutorial! I am making your men’s sweater with zipper in the front. I thank you so much for this pattern. I began making it on Sunday and now I am at the raglan increases working in the round. I hope to finish it by next week. I am going to send you an e-mail very soon. Thank you so much for your hard work as many aren’t able to comprehend how time consuming it is.
Cooking with Tovia I made that sweater for my husband. Love it.
OMG thank you for this! I saw another video but it wasn’t working. This was exactly what I needed but just so you know you turn the needles before you start to make the stitch but you may say it the second time you show how to do it. Thank you!!!!
YOU are such a lifesaver! You have taught me about lifelines and now this! I was trying to do a KAL that involved 112 stitches and dropped a cast on! I took it off the needles and gave up. ♥
Thank you for this video! I have made this mistake many times and always started over because I had no idea that there was a way to fix it. You’re a genius!
Hallelujah!!! Thank you! It was so hard to find this particular fix! Thanks again!!!!
I just recently started knitting and your videos are an invaluable resource, thank you so much for putting them together with such care
THANK YOU for one of your best tutorials.
How many times I had to begin it again!!!
Thank you very, very much.
Thank you very much, I‘m knitting for ages but never learned this technic🙏
OMG.... thank you. I've been knitting for years and couldn't figure this out. Can't tell you how many times I've been about frustrated out of my mind!
You're a lifesaver - thank you for your wonderful videos
Thank you so much for making this video this happens to me more than I would care to admit and I get so frustrated when I have to start my cast on all over, but this is so helpful. Thank you!
Thank you! It was great to see an actual video of this technique. When I work with thinner yarns, I actually use the crochet hook to create the loop. My fingers don't work well trying to do this with the thinner yarns.
Thank you so much. I've had to start again when this has happened!
I always thought I had to start over again. I just tried it and it works. Thanks so much.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I really needed to learn this trick to save me time and frustration.
Rachel S.
As usual, your tutorials are the best!
Was thinking the term clockwise must be so bizarre to young people who use digital. As always Staci, you come up w/ the best solutions...and we know what to say when this happens. 1:19 Hysterical!
Mom Grandma, it never occurred to to me about the tern clockwise or counter clockwise in the digital world. I see the progression in time when my grandkids are with me. It’s bitter sweet to me. Stacy
it's a miracle cure. ok, I will continue knitting now. thanks
I knew I could count on you to teach me how to fix this! Thanks😍
Oh wow. Much easier than I thought it would be. Thank you!
You are my FAVOURITE PERSON.
Yaaaa!!! I never thought of this question and it happened to me, I just deal with it the best I can till you show the trick!!! now I will do better when it comes to it!
Fabulous! I’ve always started from scratch. Such an easy fix! Thanks!
Great video. Never occurred to me that it could be done so easily. Thanks
Thank you! This just happened to me the other day , I’m glad I know how to fix this now. ❤️
OMG! Maybe now I don't have to frog the whole project or at the very least frogging out a bunch of rows. Thanks again for the great tutorial.
Thank you so much! I had this very issue not long ago and ripped back the whole cast on. That will no longer have to happen.i
Thank you SOOO MUCH Staci!!! This will save me one headache!!!!
Just used this method and it was wonderful. Thank you Staci! Xoxo
Once again, crochet to the rescue!! Hooray!
Omg staci.... this is the absolute best
Great tip, much better than starting over! Thank you!
Thank you! I always had to start again.
This worked like a charm! Thanks!!
I didn't think that was possible! Thanks for this!
This was incredibly helpful! I have 258 stitches on my round, and it happened to the last one. And I had already unraveled once because it got twisted. 😂
Mind Blown 🤯. This is awesome, can’t wait to try it out
This is one of my least favorite things that happen to me! THANK YOU FOR THIS!!
This is super neat! I wish I had this tutorial when I used to drop my cast on stitches!
Thanks so much. Happy New Year 🎆
YOU ARE THE BEST. THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! subscribed
You are amazing. Thanks for this great tutorial.
Thank you so much for this video! It really sucks when you have over 100 sts and then drop one in the middle and have to start over (at least I did because I didn't know how to fix it)TV is so helpful!
Life saver! Thnx Staci.
Thank you for sharing this tip! I really appreciate all your videos! ♥️
Yay!! It's much more terrifying than a standard dropped knit or purl stitch.
Thank you for doing a video on this!! Normally I just frog and start over
Need more videos for other types of dropped cast-ons......PLEASE....!
Great video. Never saw this before thank you 😃
My hero!! Thank you for this!
Thank you very much, you made it so easy for me.
Thank you very much! I really despise pulling everything out and starting over! Lol

I totally agree you’re awesome thank you 😊

Oh,thank you so much!!!
Thank you Thank you Thank you ! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Yesss I needed this so much!
I love you videos!^^ thank you!
I have 165 Sts, I'm up to my 3rd row... My last 2 stitches (which include an inc in each) just unraveled all the way to the cast-on! *crying* I don't know if this is fixable - but I will try!!
I did it!!! Relatively easily! Thanks for the inspiration - I was getting ready to frog it all.
Came here hoping to find a way to retrieve a german twisted cast on stitch. Do you have a video for that?
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
It's a miracle!!!!!!
That's great! Thanks.
