Accordingly, the nation holds a staggering $26.3 trillion worth of untapped oil deposits, located within the country’s 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zone. The vast oil reserves of the Philippines are found in various parts of the archipelago, specifically the Reed Bank, the largest of them all, and the Mischief Reef in the Spratly Islands.
According to a report by the U.S. Geological Survey and China’s Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, the oil deposits on Spratlys Island could reach 17.1 billion barrels.
With the recent discovery of oil reserves in the Sulu, particularly within the Celebes Sea. The amount of hydrocarbon deposits in the country could be more than $26.3 trillion, more than the 13 billion barrels of oil deposits of Kuwait, one of the world’s top oil producers.
This is more than enough to free the country from poverty, and the Philippines would not have to import expensive oil. In fact, the country would be an exporter of oil products and at the same time, provide an answer to the unabated rise of gasoline prices almost every week.
The recent progress of the country’s oil and gas industry is the redevelopment of the Cadlao Oil field that was last operational in the early 1990s. As the Philippines is seeking to revive its moribund upstream oil industry.
Cadlao’s Oil field estimated recoverable volumes of 6.2 million barrels of oil, are unlikely to have a huge impact on local supply. But it will help minimize the import of petroleum products. Oil production could start by 2024. While the natural gas fields around Malampaya which are set to run dry by 2027, will also be set to redevelop its surrounding areas.
The Malampaya oil and gas oil field, 50km west of Palawan Island has produced a total of 1.9 trillion standard cubic feet of gas as of the end of 2017 and 75 million barrels of natural gas liquids. It supplies five power plants in Luzon, the country's largest island, with a combined capacity of 3,200 megawatts.
Other prospective deposits are believed to be found inland, and offshore waters including those in the northern province of Cagayan, Ragay Gulf in Bicol, offshore Mindoro, the new Palawan block, northern Cebu, and the Cotabato Basin.
In 2018, an estimated 27.9 million barrels of in-land oil was discovered in Alegria Cebu by the Department of Energy and service contractor China International Mining Petroleum Company Ltd., with an estimated 3.4 million barrels of recoverable oil.
An estimated 9.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas reserves were found, with up to 6.6 billion cubic feet of recoverable gas, about 70% of the total estimated gas reserves.
The Liguasan Marsh, which covers 2,200 hectares straddling the provinces of Cotabato, Maguindanao, and Sultan Kudarat, is estimated to hold 3.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 4.8 billion barrels of crude oil.
Earlier this year, the Department of Energy has given the green light to SK Liguasan Oil and Gas Corporation, a Mindanao-based exploration firm, to develop Area 9 of the Cotabato Basin.
The BENHAM Rise is located off the coast of Aurora Province, the northernmost part of the Philippines. Which was suspected to have a rich deposit of petroleum, was found that no potential oil reserved. But a rich source of minerals, and other aquatic resources, like gas hydrates or methane.

I think the Philippines has left its run to late .Australia was in 2021 the biggest exporter of LNG gas .Malaysia third on the list .I worked seismic survey off the coast of palawan and also Sarawak in the early 90s Malaysia got to it straight away .Philippines sat on there resources and never capitalised on it .The world's going green now ,we are starting to steer away from fossil fuels .It's a little to late .

Will benefit some Indonesians here too. Though not large, there is a constant influx of Indonesians in the Philippines. They come here to live, study if they choose to for free, and inter-marry. I think the gov call them PWID or people without identity or state. Both Ph and ID govs help them however they could and upon adulthood, they get to choose which country they want to be legally part of. If they choose to return to Indonesia, both governments help them assimilate. Some of them choose to stay because they have already adapted the culture and customs and there is no discrimination.

They don't need to prioritize the oil reserves in WPS; they just need to prioritize the oil reserves located inside the landmass of the Philippines.to boost its economy, then after that they can be a competitive nation; maybe that will catapult them to being a G7 nation. When they become a G7 nation, that's when they can focus on WPS.
Just as with Saudi Arabia, it makes sense to start with joint development with foreign partners first so you can learn the business, and engineering. Australia rapidly developed into one of the world's natural gas exporter in only two decades by working with foreign partners. Ideally you work with a variety of different foreign partners to learn which are better. This also gives experience with different variants of technology. Go Philippines.

It will take at least 30 years for the Philippines to be a first world country. Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore took at least 35 years of CONTINUOUS growth. They have an open (Capitalist) economy, strict law enforcement, limited freedom of speech, higher and better quality standards of education, world class infrastructures and health care, Parliamentary style government, and a culture that promotes entrepreneurship.
We are currently one of the fastest growing economies in the world, but we still have a long way to go.

In that time, it really was only makati that was tall and modern. Then it started to grow. What was 3 seperate skylines is now 1 connected giant metro manila skyline. Very impressive. Now the focus is on the public transportation system and infrastructure

wait, so send every single vehicle in the PI off to the scrap yard? modern cars and trucks are around 100 times cleaner than old vehicles (think jeepney) replacing every vehicle in the Philippines will bankrupt your country just as it would any other country. the last time i was in Manila (2017) i did not see a single vehicle for sale that would run on deuterium. i also did not see any deuterium available for sale at the fuel station we visited. perhaps sometime in the future if it is economically feasible then it will be adopted as the fuel of choice but that may be some time.

Why are so many people focusing on the West Philippine Sea for oil and gas exploration when there are so many undisputed areas that the Philippines can develop?
Without neglecting the WPS, the Philippines should focus more on areas that it can peacefully exploit.
Well, because the Philippines' WPS claims must always be a hot topic, it should not die. because China will do whatever they can to steal it from the Philippines. Hence, it should always be protected. But the Philippines is now exploring those undisputed areas that you mentioned while also keeping an eye on WPS. One example is the Alegria Oil Exploration Project in Cebu, which was completed during the DU30 administration. With the inauguration of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority recently and the improving peace in Mindanao, the government can now focus on exploring the Liguasan Marsh. And if you look at the development in the southern part of the Philippines, it is also a preparation for the economic boom that will happen there when this oil reserve is explored. There will be a pier soon to rise, and I think it will be in General Santos if I'm not mistaken. It will be for the oil and gas cargo ships.
