  • Installing a Pertronix ignition in old blue. 1970 F250 with a 360 FE engine. This install is to hopefully make the truck run better, and or help me eliminate possible causes of the hesitation I encounter when stepping on the gas.
Here is the Pertronix unit I used:
    Pertronix 1281 amzn.to/3r7CFk7

I would recommend the MSD High Energy Ignition for your 1970 Ford F250 Camper Special.

I’m thinking you need to know ohms on the 1281 kit you are supposed to check the resistance to and through the coil not just the keyed 12v source. I like using a fused 4 pin relay to turn 12v items on or off.

Thank you, I will have to check the resistance, as you layout out.

Oh, I just realized this is for old blue, so I will have to check on the green machine.

I would check your carb. Especially if it's a 2 barrel.

Hello Jeff, i think you are right, carb needs some tuning.

@@jerrysprojects7653 I have a 72 f100 and I was experiencing the same as you. Sluggishness. Also very delayed on throttle response. I rebuilt my carb and it all went away.

Nothing wrong with that points ignition . If you have to pump the gas and crank forever your power valve is bad and I would check for any exhaust restrictions the y pipe could be a big one .

Thank you. I replaced the power valve, but that doesn't mean its not bad.

I have had 3 Pertronix kits fail on me and sent me home on a tow truck! Yes I have the correct coil and wiring. Pertronix are now made in Taiwan and have serious quality control problems! They are junk!

Oh no, I sure hope I don't encounter that. Did you go with a different brand?

    Why 12° S/B 6° BTC.
I have a hesitation on acceleration. Then it is good.

I played with timing and tried 6,8,10 and 12. I watched every video, read all the forums and even used a vacum gauge to try to find the sweet spot. I may have even tweaked it more in later videos. I think my remaining acceleration hesitation is carburetor related.

@@jerrysprojects7653 yep,! Can't get rid of it. And starts very cold. I think it's going to take a edelbrok intake and carb.
