Brilliant video, I find shorter fighters that seem to posses a lot of mass and strength especially when they walk into you can be pretty aggressive (intimidating to fight), so the taller fighter should definitely keep his range and be mindful of footwork. Also the jab at distance and aggressive fighting to control the opponent, can releive there constant pressure of walking into you.

This is brilliant! I just spent 6 rounds against a more experienced, shorter fighter.
First round I did okay, but after that I pretty much had one knee on the canvas. He jabbed faster and moved faster than me and once he got close I was at a loss, he tore into my ribs and I had no idea what to do. After the session to my surprise, he told me that when he got close, I would lean over, leaving my ribs completely exposed, I didn't realise I was even doing this 😅
This video seems to touch on what happened very well.
I'll work on the techniques and hopefully next week when I rematch him, I will finish the night on my feet, with no knock-downs!

It's a good video, I agree with everything other than the shoulder role. To be able to do this you have to practice it every single day & for novices it's just not possible at this stage for them. Also I noticed he threw the right hand at your shoulder not at your chin, which realistically you would need to be very sharp in order to role the right hand set your feet to then throw the uppercut to counter. The smothering & the faints for a shorter opponent is the best option because you work less than your opponent does while you look for opening off of what faints your able to sell them. Hand, body or foot faints. Causing mental pressure for your opponent trying to constantly guess what is coming their way.

I had this pretty much exact experience today, I was fighting this much shorter guy (I’m 6’2”) he must have been 6-8in shorter than me. And all he did was point his face at the ground with his guard up and pushed through the punches until his head was basically a couple inches from my chests then he just went at hooks to the body. Sometimes he’d throw in a few overhands to my head. Overall it was pretty frustrating, wish I saw this earlier haha!

5:24 that’s not how you slip a jab from orthodox vs orthodox. If he misses the jab he can left hook with the same hand even after he misses the jab. Youre supposed to slip to the right when you get jabbed by an orthodox fighter and you are fighting out of the orthodox stance. Other than that good vid champ

the dude i fought is head shorter than me. or more. he starts the fight balancing heavy on his back foot, so that if i actually want to reach him i have to overextend and leave myself open for that hook/uppercut from below
everytime i want to punch him with hook or straight attack i have to overextend, lean down to him, and he immedietly counters with that attack that look like something in between hook and uppercut right into my jaw
he's fast as hell, and if i try playing more defensivley by backing up and punching sooner or later i find my back against the wall, and im fuck there because he cuts the distance and just overwhelms me with flurry of punches

    • @tman4life01

Dont go to him. And when he gets close use that feint! Check where he goes and capitalize. You could even feint going high with your lead hand and if he leans back come in with a heavy hook to the body

    • @gabrieloldroyd3848
      @gabrieloldroyd3848 5 років тому

Simple mistake don’t jab to hit him (by over extending) when he stays back just jab to keep him back and that way he’s trapped coz if he does duck it is to far away any way so he won’t be able to get them short range shots in and constantly move around throwing that jab because he csrnt sit in that position forever

If you should go for more kg/lb must be told by your coach. If your body structure will be better in higher or lower weight cant said by a video editor. You know not all short people should play at low weight div and the opposite for the tall ones.Take for ex tyson,he was short as hell for heavyweight but he considers one of the greatest or Muhammad ali was not tall or short for hes weight class but he consider the greatest and Klitschko dont consider in top 10 heavyweights and he was tall as hell for heavyweight.I mean try if you good in that weight stick with it if not make changes.

BlindEyeVisions yeah coz he’s a fucking fraud throwing out names like he’s some sort of pro when in actual fact they some of the most notable fighters to date. Here is some facts yes compared to the the heavy weights now Ali is smaller but back then he was one of the tallest with foreman seen as the biggest at only 6’4 so he did use his height then Tyson yes maybe slightly smaller than the rest but was still not tiny as the competition (and I mean the actual good boxers not these giants that only get in the devision because of there height and power but we’re terrible boxers) was probably the smallest to date in the devision with Holyfield at at 6’2 and Douglas at 6,4 nothing compared to Tyson fury wilder and Joshua who are 6,8 + (height wise) and then klichko (fuck spelling that) is only not regarded in the top 10 as he is a boring fighter who gets wins who doesn’t win over the crowds and that’s probably because of his fight as all he has to do is throw his jab so shut up mate probably only ever watched a Tyson fight coz he chatting out ur ass

And mate stay in the devision u feel most comfortable in try bulking and see how it is in a division up if it feel uncomfortable and u don’t like being the shorter fighter move back down but u like it then stay it’s up to u and what makes u a better boxer

But if you throw slow jab they can pull your hand to the side and throw heavy right hand like Wilder does

Moreno Boxing ok.. So i need to master close range as well because having a reach of 76 inches makes me comfortable to keep moving and jab my sparring partner all day long.. Once again thanks a lot.. U make amateurs like me understand everything in detail.

I feel this video was all over the place with his teaching sometimes it felt it was how to fight tall then switch to short
