    I wonder if GRM went back to the Formula 5000 cars and designed the exhaust to make that sound, modern day exhaust design doesnt really convey that sweet V8 sound.

      The chassis not made to of aluminium either. Just an observation but the exhaust system is not very different from the F5000s of old. They should sound very similar.

      Yeah not a patch on the old Chevys , Lola t70's still have it to this day.....proper noise not these dumbed down farty sounds.

      About 850. I was at the first event at Sandown and saw the individual weights on each wheel.

    FIA: let's build F1 cars with 1.6 turbo hybrid engines, and promote formula E.
    Australia: screw that! Let's bung a tuned Yank V8 5.2 litre engine in an open wheel car. That'll piss off them climate protesters!

      I’m a supporter of those protests and I have no problem with this category. It’s not a major contributor to greenhouse gasses.

    So, its really an S5200 formula? I remember the good old classic days (and current historic days) of the original F5000s, when Australia was innovative with, in addition to the American Chev, we had our locally made Repco/Holden V8 winning, and our locally made Leyland 4.4 V8 winning. Surely, as there are companies still making Holden V8 and Cleveland V8 stuff here, we could have developed a "Rogers" S5000 Ozzy V8 locally? 550hp is fairly easy to attain now days.

      Too old. Besides, they went for a control engine to;
      1) keep costs down,
      2) to make racing closer and
      3) to keep the category sustainable through long term support.
      Nothing is more capable of killing a category that spiralling costs.
      Incidentally, there’s a lot of Australian engineering in these things. You should read about how they were developed.

      @@thethirdman225 Yeah, but they are just Ford Coyote engines....all the way from Good ol USA. At least the Miami in my XR8, was made with lots of locally developed parts and assembled in Oz. ;). They could easily use a "Crate" COME Holden or 3V Cleveland developed and made right here, for this category, and keep the money local.

    Why choose that engine over a GM LS376-515? If 5000cc was the target capacity you could get a custom crank and rods for less money than the Ford motor unless you got some sort of deal from Ford. Not trying to be smart just interested.

      HP per liter on the coyote is significantly higher than the LS design. The DOHC heads with Ti-VCT flow exceptionally well in the lower rpm range without limiting its ability to breathe in the high rpm range. The result is a very linear power curve that doesn’t suffer in the low rpm

    with the revs and exhaust they sound so boarish it's the 21st century the sound is not spectacular it stinks it sounds backwards with technology electronic injection should be on it with better cams and a small turbo rubens must be getting a good paycheck just to help promote the sport and fingers crossed it takes off I'm looking forward to it I'm backing Matt brabham.
    who in Australia could not his bloodline is pure for this category glad to have him back cant wait till they come to good old eastern creek

      This whole point is to be like the old f5000 cars. It's completely gone over your head. Watch a different series.

    V8's are dinosaurs, but a V6 turbo unit in there, with modern styling. That would be perfect.
