  • THIS IS A FAST AND EASY QUILT to use up your stash. The Beginner Bargello is available in three sizes. One of my main quilting goal this year is to use up my fat quarter bundles but that is often harder than it seems. I have some tips on how to use up those fabrics that don't seem to play nicely with each other.

I know this is an older video, but I have to say that when this video first aired - I loved that fabric and wanted it so badly. Now I've watched this video so many times (I still haven't made a quilt like this) that I'm no longer dying for that fabric. So funny!

I am a grandma and worry that I am going to overload my kids and grandkids with quilts. I was stressing over a gift for a 10 year old grandson, sure a quilt be the last thing he wanted. On my way out he calls to me saying Grandma I need a new blanket. As they get older I ask them to pick. My 13 year old grand daughter wants a bargello.

I'm binge watching you videos. I am determined to use up my stash and all little bits of fabric. Can't take it with me and none of my 3 daughters are interested in sewing. I've been sewing since I was 9. It has been over 20 years since I made any quilts. Wish me luck!

Today I took the day off from work to go register my car, go to the fabric store and quilt!! When my daughter found out that I was going to the fabric store, she stopped me and said "No Mom! Karen said you are supposed to shop from your stash!!!" That was hysterical!! My daughter and I both love your channel Karen!! Thank you so much for the inspiration!!!

Sometimes I just to have to be in a sewing mood, and if I’m not, then I won’t be sewing anything. I do like to watch others create with their material and fabric stash, though, hoping it puts me in the sewing mood. Love your videos!

I am an old quilter who is just getting back in the game. I was unable to sew for about 5 years due to health issues and you have truly inspired me. I am looking for my new first project and you have given me some great ideas. I will let you know when I start my quilt and send you a photo of my progress. I have severe RA in my hands and back so I am limited on some of the things I can do but I think with the new pre-cuts and your tips and tricks, I just might be able to pull this off.

HI Karen, thanks so much for the cool advise of making fat quarter quilt. But I got a lot of joy seeing you build the backing by taping the fabric to the wall and not on the floor. I am 6ft and a bad knee. I don't know who I learned laying the backing on the floor but I loved your solution, so thanks. from Rosie from Brisbane, Queensland Australia.

Thank you for the tips on using hard to use fabrics. I’ve collected a lot of these. Loved the fussy cuts too. I had to rewatch though, because I got a little confused about stacking the strips into the piles to sew. It’s easy, but I didn’t quite get it at first. Anyone else who’s lost, just rewatch and it will make sense.

I have got to thank you!!! On one of your videos you offered a great idea about making a ledge with masking tape what a game changer that was for me. Why I never thought about that, I don't know. I almost can close my eyes and still sew straight. My eyes don't get nearly as tired as they used to. I haven't started to quilt yet. I'm trying to watch enough videos that I'm going to feel like okay go for it. That has not happened yet. I love everything that you make it's gorgeous.

I usually don’t like bargellos, but your use of wider vertical stripe made this appealing to my eye. Thanks. A friendly suggestion-women on FB quilting pages SO frequently preface their picture of their latest quilt with the words “it isn’t perfect” and it drives me and others bonkers. I understand the impulse to say that and fight my inclination to say it myself! But we as women need to not say that type of thing. I hope you will avoid saying it in the future, and perhaps even devote a part one of your tutorials to the issue. You are a blessing ❤️

Hi Karen - through my journey in getting my fabrics inventoried I found kits that I thought were good buys, but I will never use. I actually asked myself - "What were you thinking getting this kit???" I am going to use this method to get some stash busting quilts done. I am getting some quilts together to send to my longarm quilter too. The satisfaction in getting things cleaned and organized has been really nice. Actually re-organizing my sewing room as I inventory. Thank you for all the great tips. Also, regarding this video, I really appreciate your tip to put a solid in as a bridge. I was debating this very point in my mind yesterday.

Great video. Fabric with those strong directional patterns are often on sale. Now I know how to use them. Thanks

Love this quilt! I may finally get a bargello done in my life time. Your hints were great! The fabric designs seemed a little over the top, but when you added some solids and laid it out! I was quite impressed! Love it! TFS

I love this ! Only wish I had found this video earlier. A friend talked me into buying fat quarters that were all our home state theme, odd prints and colors. In desperation to "Juet Get It Done" I added one white and one solid fabric to make a nine patch quilt. It has become my "ugly" quilt. I think that means it will be used more often!

omg I can relate to fat quarter jewels. I once bought fat quarters in a color to complement my kitchen decor. rolled them into bundles, tied them with twine in a very pretty manor and they sat in a basket on my counter top for years. They just made me happy. Weird huh? My husband (who was an IT guy and hates paper) has learned to deal with my love of fabric and love of paper. Every own some that were too pretty to cut? I have.

What a great stash buster! I’m always looking for a fast an easy quilt pattern-especially for all those random fat quarters that pile up on the shelf.

Thank you for another great video and a quick and easy way to dip into Bargello Quilts. I am going to check out the Baby quilt as I have some adorable prints but one is larger scale and I do not want to lose the animals in the print by chopping it up.
I often refer people to your videos, you are very clear and concise in your instructions and explain why you do things the way you do.

I don't have much of a stash yet. In fact I'm just getting ready to make my first quilt with my 12 year old daughter.
I'm taking notes to use down the road. Thank you!

I'm a long time quilter. Wish I was there with you as quilting is so solitary. I don't have children. How fun! Don't get frustrated. Take it slow and keep plugging through one step at a time. At the end you'll have learned a lot and even though it won't be perfect you both will be proud because YOU made it.

@@lisapertzborn2185 Thank you! I'm trying to keep in mind that every mistake is a learning opportunity but we'll see how long I can keep that perspective. 😅
