the top red, yellow, black wires are switched wires. not a direct dedicated ground. but then you should put in a winch to trailer chassis ground wire. not sure how your batt is wired but it also should be wired to chassis ground as well as directly to the winch. BUT. I would like to know if having the bolts on the bottom, holds under severe loads. as i see it to be a far stronger mount to have the bolts facing the load. AKA: the bolts just hold the winch, not get torqued trying to hold it down to a plate flat with the load. as the back two bolts are getting twisted and pulled up. while the front two are more of a compression twist load. think rolling the winch.
My zrx winch has been nothing but problems..the black control box will drop to 8volts when using winch controller.also thr free spool lever gets stuck. Absolute nightmare
I have no idea why winch manufactures use black as the third color when it doesn't connect directly to ground. The black and yellow are the directions and are jumpered to the red by the control box when the winch is in use. Would be a good idea to change the boot or paint the current one a different color to avoid someone else from making the same mistake.

Yes, and it has a wireless transmitter that sends China everything you do with the winch. That's why the ground wire has to be in the right place, otherwise China won't let it work right.

@@Chubbycat748 That little black wire also transmits data to those balloons as well.
