It felt like my Hiddy was the boss in this fight. Like William just happened upon my tomb and awakened his next big bad encounter. I loved it. No doubt my favorite fight in the game.
I loved this fight specifically because if we get down to brass tax... you're playing as Otakemaru since he's directly controlling Hide! Was too damn cool.
It's also possible that William didn't want to "tip his hand" to his enemies while rescuing his son unnecessarily, so he was saving his stronger abilities as his "ace in the hole". Plus, in the latter case, he had Hide there to help him the entire time, and we all know just how powerful Hide really is by that point in the story, considering Hide is strong enough that they're pretty much ready for their final showdown with Otakemaru from the moment William frees them from being possessed. Plus, when William fought Hide, the fact that he'd clearly already met Mumyo meant that she had probably warned him ahead of time about how strong Hide was just in case something "went wrong". Plus, it's possible that he'd also heard about Hide's strength and prowess from his/her allies (like Hanzo), and just how much Hide could handle, as evidenced by how many "suicide missions" Hide took on and completed without losing his/her life.
I really didn't expect to see William in 2, the whole time-skip part was really well done and set up nicely for the coming DLCs. It was done perfectly as a climax to the story too, neither William or Maria overstayed their welcome.
For as flexible as William was during our time as him in Nioh 1, I actually really love how his canon equipment is a sword and spear, (specifically using Shima Sakon's spear that we can very likely assume was gifted to him during their last encounter or at some point after), as it suggests a foreigner such as him would gravitate towards the weapons he felt most familiar with back home. Esoteric weapons such as tonfa or the kusarigama he probably at least tried to grasp before dropping them, and he probably took one look at the switchglaive or splitstaff and wrote them off immediately.
I still don't get his choice on the sword. The sword he uses has no story meaning. It's not the Raikiri he got from Ginchiyo which in my eyes would've made more sense.
@@NeocrimsonX I meant in the game. I know about William Adams. But in game he never gets the blade he fights us with. While he gets the spear from Shima Sakon.

This fight is a straight up feat for William because not only did he re-kill yamata no orochi after Kelly brought it back with the amrita which was something only the smarts of the god susano was able to pull off, but he also knocked otakemaru (one of the three legendary yokai) out of hide while he was being controlled by him. I find it a really nice touch, that Hide/Otakemaru seems completely oblivious to Williams Living Weapon. Because, when you think about it, they‘ve never actually seen it before. Everyone else in Nioh 2 uses Yokai-Shift and/or the Dark Realm instead. Yes it’s a small difference, but it’s a difference nonetheless. So I like to think of that cutscene as Hide/Otakemaru thinking William just put on a Water-Talisman, and getting unexpectedly overwhelmed by this being so much more than just an Elemental buff.
As much as I love this fight, I’m a bit conflicted on whether or not they should’ve had William use the gear players had on him in the previous game. like with xenoverse 2. you can pick your character from the 1st game to be the hero in the 2nd game and you get to fight your 1st game character later on in the game. sounds like it would've been a cool idea. but it would've be an optional thing to have him normal or the gear and level you had from the previous game to shot up the difficulty of the fight. and is so they should give a mission reward bonus if that william is higher. if the other williem happened to be close to the level in the mission. the reward well stay the same. but here's the catch. you have to beat the game to unlock the option.
What if the game mechanic here is that the game searches if you have Nioh 1 installed and pulls your OP build there and uses that as the William boss? We would be fucked.
