So I was trying to think of ways to make the production of a set of tongs a little bit easier and faster, but at the same time not to end up with a weak pair. Forging tongs is a great way to practice our blacksmithing skills and making mistakes is all part of the learning curve. These are not to replace the traditional tongs, but rather to help us beginners to get started and also they should be ideal as a one size only pair that busy blacksmiths can knock out in a pinch.

Thanks John, my wife always says leave it to me to find the fastest & laziest way to do get a job done. I think she was referring to cleaning the house though :)

Definitely going to try this, around here rebar is cheap and everywhere , square up the boss areas and everything else should fall into place. Rebuilding my house so no time for forging, but first tools made when I get started back up are a slot punch and drift. Thanks! Hate to hear about the break in.

      Thanks Jachin,
Love using rebar for all sorts. it is also lying around the place here in India too. Yeah was a bummer and was more annoyed about the work I put into the hammer then the cost. All the best with your house.

Heat it higher, you're wasting so much of your energy while forging it like this.

The shots you are referring to are missing the beginning, were the metal is properly heated. It makes it look like that alright, because am trying to squeeze the last heat out of the metal. But will keep an eye on it.

@@workwithnature Ah. Just thought it's harder for you to forge it like this. I sometimes heat up to 1200 centrigrade when need to forge something quickly 😜 Good luck anyway!

@@AMBOSS_Silesia Thanks with mild steel it probably is a good idea too. Thanks for letting me know. The camera is always changing the color of the temp. + you have the light from the window changing it too.
