I want to thank you for this video. I know it’s an older video but it’s the best one out there for being so to the point. To y’all sewers with a lower end sewing machine, use a denim needle and you should be fine. I have a singer stylist 7258 and I sewed this just fine using a straight stitch with a 100/60 needle.
GREAT VIDEO....Straight and to the point. If you need help keeping your ribbon straight on the webbing as you sew each side you can use a fabric glue stick to keep them together. It will allow you to avoid pinning it and the whole process will go a lot faster. I use a 90/14 needle with mono poly thread in the needle and poly thread in the bobbin. Makes a nice strong stitch. I get my webbing and collar hardware from ETSY. BIG thanks for making this video!
Thank you so much for this video! I am making my kitten a collar. I will be making all of his collars. I like that you are straight to the point. A lot people ramble on and on in their DIY videos.
Thank you for getting to the point when making this video. I hate watching tutorials where they talk for the first ten minutes. I DONT CARE!!! Just show me what needs to be done!
+Uhhlaneuh Well, I agree about the talking for 10 min, but this video is missing crucial info such as 1. Is that just a normal sewing machine or heavy duty? 2. What kind of needle did she use? 3) what type of thread?
Omg this video is awesome after watching this i went and bought the items and made myself two dog collars. your instruction was very straight forward and clear i found myself a new project that my dogs will love to model. thanks again for the vid.
This was an excellent demo. I tried to figure it out by reading instructions but it didn't make sense until you showed how to put the hardware on the nylon. I made 2 beautiful collars for our Airedales! Thanks again for all of your help. It really is easy and I found a great company to order the hardware. The cost is $2 per collar plus the fabric or ribbon.
Thank you so much for this video! So simple to follow, it's absolutely brilliant. I watched it the other day, then ordered everything you said and now I have a lovely new collar for one of my dogs and I'm about to start another for the other dog. This is only the 3rd thing I've ever seen, feeling very pleased with my little self! Couldn't have done it without you! Xx
+Randy Spencer I would buy a starter harness and go from there. Or, next time you are at a place that sells harnesses, study one on how it looks and make up a design. Good luck, Randy!
I was just wondering because we have a 90 lb. lab and I would think that the thicker the "D" ring would depend on the size of the dog. Also, where do you get your rolls of webbing? This is a great tutorial! Thanks for posting!
Despite Jacklyn Shephard's rude and unnecessary reply, this is a great question! While an industrial machine would make this project super easy, it is possible to use your home machine. Just use a Jean's needle in your machine and your walking foot as well as strong thread. Polyester is best but a poly/cotton blend will work too. Make sure you to use the same thread in both the top and bobbin. For one thing, many machines will not work as well with two different threads in top and bottom. But moreover, you want and need strong thread all the way around, not just on the top thread. Hope this all helps you some! :)
GREATNESS AT WORK, i AM MAKING THEM FOR A STORE OWNER BUT HE WANTS THEM TO BE 2 INCHES WIDE. do you buy hardware in bulk? Any suggestions on price and all else. He wants leather and vinyl and the cording I mean webbing!
What is your thread tension set at? My needle is starting to shift when I reverse stitch (during the box stitch/hourglass ) and it hits the presser foot. I am using nylon webbing and #69 Bonded Nylon Thread with a heavy duty Singer machine. I can sew the ribbon on just fine it's when the nylon is folded over (for the triglide or buckle) that I'm having issues with the needle jamming the presser foot and freezing the machine.
I am new to making collars and the problem that I am having is the top thread is showing through on the nylon webbing underneath. How do I avoid this? I have a new needle, messed with tension etc. any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your video!
The top thread isn't showing, it's the bobbin thread you see. If you want it to blend in with the nylon, use a matching bobbin thread. For example if you are sewing green ribbon onto white nylon, your top thread will be green and bobbin thread white.
Hi there, Do you need a heavy duty sewing machine for this project? I have a regular one, but not sure if it will be too think with the doubling of the webbing/ribbon?? What machine do you use?
Any idea the length for a cat or kitten? When you say 20" dog, what length are you referring to with the 20"? What thickness is that webbing? Sorry for all the questions, just wonder if you need a special needle to get through the webbing? Some of it is pretty thick.
What kind of sewing machine are you using? i'm planning to buy a familiar sewing machine, but im afraid that doesn't work with that strap because is too thick ? thanks
Weston Meyer Ditto. I got supplies from Joann's too but the selection and quality is pretty terrible and the price is high. Probably better off going to a hardware store or buying online.
+xwolfbbyx Salvage the parts off your dog's old collar. (I never throw away a purse, belt or collar without removing the hardware first). That or purchase on eBay, Etsy or Amazon.
Hi so if you measure a dogs neck and it's say 15inches and then add the 11inches total of 26inches.I am finding once complete the collar at it's biggest adjusted size is the 15inches..What would you add so that the collar can be adjusted bigger if the dog gets bigger?? But making sure it can get down to the 15inches still ??
Helllo. I currently own a large male American Pit Bull Terrier, I have yet to find a collar strong enough to hold him to his outside tie. After seeing this, I thought of making my own and doubling the nylon and using metal clips instead. You didn't mention the width you used for you, so if you could, please tell me ? I also work at a kennel and we constantly have people forgetting there dog's collars when they come to get there dogs, so we usually have just plain black and red back up ones for them to have. It would be a great idea for me to make and sell these where I work for only around 3 dollars. If you could, suggest some width's for these dogs breed's; Tea cup chihuahua Pomeranian Beagle Boxer German Shepherd Pit Bull Great dane Thank you very much for this video!
how much can you adjust with 11" of extra webbing? let's say you make a collar that is from 20" to 25", would you also add 11" to the 25"? Thanks for your reply!
Do you take custom orders? I don't have time to source the materials, have it shipped and make it myself - I'm adopting a military working dog from Lackland AFB on January 24th, 2014. I have to have a collar and leash when I arrive. It'd be cool if you could make one. What do you charge?
Thank you so much! I watched a lot of videos and yours by far was the easiest to understand.
I want to thank you for this video. I know it’s an older video but it’s the best one out there for being so to the point. This is the best dog collar making video ever

+Uhhlaneuh ikr, by the time they start the actual tutorial I've already clicked Dislike and lost the will to watch
+Uhhlaneuh Well, I agree about the talking for 10 min, but this video is missing crucial info such as 1. Is that just a normal sewing machine or heavy duty? 2. What kind of needle did she use? 3) what type of thread?

You make it look so easy!
Thank you for this helpful video! I have a Singer sewing machine and I am wondering what type of needle I should use to sew the collar?
90/14 or a 114 jo ann and wal mart or hobby lobby
I was just wondering because we have a 90 lb. lab and I would think that the thicker the "D" ring would depend on the size of the dog. Also, where do you get your rolls of webbing? This is a great tutorial! Thanks for posting!
Is that an average household sewing machine?
Despite Jacklyn Shephard's rude and unnecessary reply, this is a great question! While an industrial machine would make this project super easy, it is possible to use your home machine. I've been told you need to use a heavy duty needle
Omg I love u for making this!!
How do you know what the finished size will be? Like how do you know how much it will adjust. Thank you
Where can you get the nylon? I want to make one >_<
:D
Does anyone know the proper thread to use for the webbing?
Great question. I would assume you want heavy duty type of thread
Tatiana Ferrell I HATE it when a video is made but no follow up answers are provided. Very frustrating!!! Good question by the way!
Also, where do you get the large rolls of webbing?
Excellent! One question for you, what size thread did you use?
What thread are you using? Thanks
I am new to making collars and the problem that I am having is the top thread is showing through on the nylon webbing underneath. How do I avoid this? I have a new needle, messed with tension etc. any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your video!

Hi there, Do you need a heavy duty sewing machine for this project? I have a regular one, but not sure if it will be too think with the doubling of the webbing/ribbon?? What machine do you use?
What size ribbon do you use? If you are using a 1" webbing?
Thanks
Hi can you please tell me if I want to use black webbing and say a white ribbon how do I avoid seeing the white thread on the back side??
Use black thread in your bobbin.
use black in top and bottom or reverse them
Anyone know what size buckle used in the video?
where did you get the nylon webbing at?
I looked in Joann Fabrics for the "D" rings and they didn't carry any that thick in diameter. Can you suggest where I can get them? Thanks!
ebay or google 2 in D rings and wholesalers show up also locally Hobby Lobby and their 40% off coupon
I like to know where I could find rainbow strong fabric to make my dog lead
What type of sewing machine do you have in the video?
Can you make a video showing how to make a two(2) ply collar like this?
Any idea the length for a cat or kitten? When you say 20" dog, what length are you referring to with the 20"? What thickness is that webbing? Sorry for all the questions, just wonder if you need a special needle to get through the webbing? Some of it is pretty thick.
What kind of sewing machine are you using? i'm planning to buy a familiar sewing machine, but im afraid that doesn't work with that strap because is too thick ? thanks
How much does the 20" collar adjust to?
Thank you for showing how to make, would you mind in a new video a close up of the hour glass point, I'm a visual person, your collar looks strong

What size "D" ring and buckle do you use?
I've looked online, but do you know any stores that you can walk into to buy these supplies?
no
I walked into Joann Fabrics today and picked up the hardware. Very pricey per piece tho.
Weston Meyer
Ditto. I got supplies from Joann's too but the selection and quality is pretty terrible and the price is high. Probably better off going to a hardware store or buying online.
Probably so, I'm always looking at Joanns. Thanks!
+xwolfbbyx Salvage the parts off your dog's old collar. (I never throw away a

Is that grosgrain ribbon?
Hi so if you measure a dogs neck and it's say 15inches and then add the 11inches total of 26inches.I am finding once complete the collar at it's biggest adjusted size is the 15inches..What would you add so that the collar can be adjusted bigger if the dog gets bigger?? But making sure it can get down to the 15inches still ??
Just add a few more inches to the length of your webbing and ribbon. Try 28 or 29 inches and see how that works for you.
No. I use a Janome Travelmate. I think it's the HD100 now.
white model do you have
Thank you 🙏
Helllo.

It doesn't matter what width you decide to use. The instructions are the same.

Where can u get the nilon wedding??
If you are using 1" webbing, the ribbon has to be 1" or less. I like 7/8" but 5/8" also looks nice.
What machine is this
Where did you get the hardware for the collars?
What kind of sewing machine are you using?
you can find it at home depot lol i bought thicker one for my pitbulls today :)
what size needle are you using?
how much can you adjust with 11" of extra webbing? let's say you make a collar that is from 20" to 25", would you also add 11" to the 25"? Thanks for your reply!
Phil The 11 extra inches should be enough to adjust to 5-6 extra inches
I have a chihuahua so I couldn't get my hands on smaller items, can you show us a different ay for smaller dogs
There are smaller buckles and equipment for dogs of smaller size. Try ordering
The inches just need to be smaller.
fab video

This may have been answered but for some reason I'm not finding. Do you backstitich?

She did not, but yes, you absolutely should backstitch at the beginning and end of every line and the hourglass shape.
