It's the internal E1 supercapacitor/airbag system that weighs 1280g but that's without the pack. Combined with the 30 NL (normal length) pack it's 2670g - still very light. The SL (short length) is a few cm shorter (and therefore only really 27/28 litre capacity) with be a bit lighter. And if you open up the velcro tabs at the bottom of the shovel/probe pocket your handle and probe will pass though further in to the pack.
@@FreeFloFloss yes, it’s quite good! little but steady snowfall. unfortunately lot of wind. three times this week due to holidays, that’s a lot for me to be honest. never had that much time. all the best to you and take care!
Wow, the power pack takes a up a huge amount of volume. If I ever get one of these, I'll probably have to spring for the 40L model -- I find my 32L non-airbag pack already gets filled just on day trips!
@@FreeFloFloss Nope, I've been using an Osprey Kamber 32 because I haven't really ventured into the backcountry so far. I've only done "sidecountry" or off-piste as I've only completed my first Avalanche Skills Training last week (Canadian AST-1). I certainly might get an airbag pack in the future as I do more backcountry skiing!
Hi all, get 40 L bag without a second thought. Reason: when you pack skins, crampons, ice screws, pulleys, goretex shell jacket and pants, extra gloves, emergency tent, blanket, ice axes, water bottle, boiler, and some food - my 40 L is not large enough. For example, my 60m RAD line goes on my body (or 60m Beal opera 8.5mm) - depending on the terrain/team I take one or the other. In addition, caring 2 ice axes and skis in diagonal is an issue - so one axe is in hand or behind the belt/harness/ or shoulder strap. Consider a separate custom attachment onto the backpack - you have to work with the tailor to design one for your needs (it’s not that complex). After all of this, Alpride E1 system is better then most because: 1) operates on super capacitors (no issue with cold temperatures) 2) no gas cartridges with inertia gases like Argon - check it’s effects 3) no money spending on cartridges for a test before each season; ex: $50/cartridge per season per let’s say 7 years = $350
Scott aim for 4-6 ...on one charge but I think it all depends on when the battery was charged, the batteries and also temperature. I think if you need more than I deployment then you are doing something wrong...😁you need to work on your mountain safety and making good decisions in avalanche terrain.
@@FreeFloFloss thanks. I found that data in their manual. 2xAA Batteries can recharge 1-2 times. So its good to have 2 more batteries or small powerbank. Also there is a info that its designed to total of 50 deplyments
Is this the blue dark blue version? On all of the websites that sell it it looks like a much darker blue than the one you have in the video. Maybe it is just their marketing photos, I love the blue that you have in your video and I'm just curious if that is the same one. From what I can see online they only did one version of the blue
You mentioned in the video you did a video on the bag where you go over recharging and packing. Can you give me a link? I've looked through all your videos a few times and I can't seem to find it. Thanks!

Thank the Piste Office, which airbag do you use?
The leg strap is important! Anyhow liked your video and have now also an E1. Nice days in the snow, best regards from Austria!
Yes the leg strap is important. Thank for your comment. How is Austria? Have you managed to get out rinidng lots?

You have to wear the strap that goes between your legs and attaches to the waist belt.
its recommended
So with the skis carrier in the A-frame setup they’ll interfere with the airbag deployment?
Yes in the a frame set up
