I made an Easter egg hunt for my Leo by hiding a couple mealworms around her enclosure and guiding her to it
That’s so cool!
COOL!
@@JJ-uf4qb thank you
@@geckoguy3647 thanks
@Lizard and cat thank you, happy Easter to you too
Beetles love burrowing. They dislike the light and their "bedding" should be deeper than them, so they can burrow into it.
I used a big storage container and just filled it with the shavings they came with. I’d feed them with gutloading stuff to keep them from eating eggs pupae or babies but I never separated them bc they always seemed to die when I did. I ended up having to rehome my reptiles and just kind of forgot about the colony it ended up surviving just fine and continuing to breed for 3 years with no food or water or separating just feeding off the old beetle carcasses. It was so weird👀
I bought one of these after watching this video shortly after you posted it, and it’s been absolutely wonderful! My original colony is still going strong almost two years later. Thank you!
The mealworms don't eat the eggs?
That’s actually a nice idea for a breeding colony, i might use it too :o
Awesome :D
I recommend using paper towel instead of bran for the pupae. Bran allows them to burrow after they emerge and you might miss them. Paper towel they will grab onto and you can easily shake them into your adult container.
Ah yeah true!
Thank you, that's a handy hint! Whenever I find pupae in the substrate, I put them in another container for our pet mice - they love them. We're going to start a mealie breeding colony so I'll use paper towels for the pupae.
I'm getting sooo close to being able to get a leo, but I found out that I need to buy some more things just for safer like mite spray and anti-shed items to help with removing stuck shed 😃
Hopefully not too long! It's very exciting x
Usually if the conditions are right you shouldn't have much of a problem with shedding, but it can still occur. I've never used a shedding aid, but I do have a video on how to remove stuck shed using just water - ua-cam.com/video/tcWHa7wrH9Y/v-deo.html
Yup!... Had my #1 little buddy (Bart) since 2018 & haven't needed either if those items (luckily, knock on wood!). Keeping a good moist hide & giving your gecko a soak works wonders on shed. [I call it his "spa day & he loves it!] I use Zoo Med Electrolyte Soak in his warm "bathwater"! 😁 ~ I have learned everything about his care from this channel & researching other sites, so as long as you keep learning, you will be a great scaly-baby parent! 🥰🦎💛
I actually made a farm like this myself last year! (same setup essentially) rather than bowls (which food gets dragged off of) I found laying the carrots out on paper towels did the trick, they make a couple of holes over time but the food usually stays on it and the bedding is dry.
i have recently given my 6 month old crested gecko a ceramic heat emitter, and i can tell a huge difference in his behavior. he/she is a ton more active, and has a better feeding response and appetite! thank you so much for teaching me so much! love your channel!
Makes sense seeing as though it's a cold blooded reptile.
This is so cool! I learned how to make one of these breeding racks myself but this looks much more professional and appealing lol
my brother and i have worked for months now to get our parents on board with getting a leo, and this weekend we put together the table for the terrarium! my dad likes to say he's not a fan of the idea, but he made extra sure while shopping that our new friend will have a great setup when it gets here lol
Thank you for all your amazing videos, your channel along with others convinced me to get a leopard gecko and yours especially helps with the care, thank you for introducing me to these wonderful animals
So pleased to have come across your page! Started breeding my mealworms and I have tubs everywhere, it worked but looks so untidy! This set up looks fab so I have just ordered. So excited to start using this. Got the 10% discount too! My gecko Dotty, is 12 now 😍🦎. xx
I'm getting a Leopard Gecko soon! A Female Tangerine! I've watched all your videos and taken note from everything you've said, I've been studying and doing research for 4/6 months. An I'm getting her soon. Thank you for all the information!
Your Videos are awesome! 💖
Aww that's great to hear! I'm glad I've been able to help :D Good Luck!
Thank you for posting this. I have found it very helpful! I am just starting.
Yayyy new video, I’m getting a baby Leo on Saturday hopefully 🙏
Ahh congrats!! :)
I love this channel it has helped me so much!
This is awesome! I'm going to try this setup. Thank you 😊
I think I’ll definitely have to try this out ! Great video 😁
Awesome!!! I need to set up a colony myself because I bought small sterilite drawers like that just for it but I haven't gotten to it yet. 😅
Really helpful video as I’m going to start a mealworm farm to feed my hens. Thank you 😊 Uk
Interesting. Just bought a few meal worms to grow for food. Trying to work out the best system for building up the farm!
Probarly the easiest video I have seen .. thank you so much
Mites come from the oats and stuff they say to bake it and also put holes in the containers for them
You’re such an awesome UA-camr❤ I am going to use this for my mealworms! I have a leopard gecko that is two years old and I still keep the feeder insects in the pet store box😢 Thank you so much🎉
My crested gecko moved into her new enclosure a while ago... it's a 90×45×45 exo terra. She is doing very well. She uses all the space and she has grown bigger. The plants aren't doing great due to snails but otherwise everything is going well.
Aww that's great to hear!. Ah yeah got to check those plants before they go in incase they have pests on the like snails 🙈
Great description and tutorial
7:25 a pupa wiggling. Cute
Yayyy I love how you are so smart and helpful ❤👍👍👍😃😃😃thanks
hey thank you for the video i was wondering if and when you would do a tank review because i would love to show you mine
That looks like a great setup. Did you ever update your thoughts on it?
Thank you!!
I have a leopard gecko and what I do with the meal worms is put them in my mini refrigerator and but does not freeze them that much like I can see them move in there and then i warm them up and give them to my leopard gecko you can try this it prevents the mites cause that happened to me to
Thank you for the nice video!
Thanks 🙂
Where do I get the mesh and do you know the size.. I have a set up but yours has really helped me understand the set up better
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing with us. The set up seems to be a very good set up for a beginner or someone with not many reptiles.
I would like to see more of your content. Jesus bless.
This is the video I needed Lol
Awesome!
I just opened my first cup of mealworms for my brand new juvenile leopard gecko yes new leopard Gecko mommy and the substance that is in the container with The worms looks exactly like the brand mash I feed my horse. I’m pretty sure it is brand mash in this cup. So if I ever need any more nowhere to get it lol
Thanks
So I have a colony set up like this in 4 drawers I got from Officeworks. Cut the bottom out of the top drawer and replaced with mesh. I put oats in as substrate for the beetles as it doesn’t drop thru but was worried the eggs may not be dropping thru as they’re sticky right? What did you end up using other than the bran?
Hello Leopard Gecko! i was wondering what clean up crew you would recommend? i also waned to know where i should buy my leopard gecko (breeder or pet store). Now i want a bioactive tank but if i get a baby should i hold it in a temporary tank until it grows larger?
Using soil creates a moisture environment hence the pests that you got... just use the dry oats or bran...
I love you guilds there real useful
I started a mealworm farm about a month ago with 500 mealworms and have about 150 beetles maybe more but im hoping to start getting baby mealworms soon.
How did you get on with this setup?? Did it work did the eggs go through the mesh
Great video
Mind sharing a link for the wire mesh you use?
When they are in worm or beetle phase can they climb up the sides of the container and escape?
Subscribed because of this
I've just started a mealworm breeding colony a couple months ago so now I have a bunch of beetles my gecko won't eat until the eggs hatch 😂!!
Oh no lol
Separate the beetles from the worms and continue to feed them and provide them moisture. They will continue to provide you with more worms. When some of the grown worms become beetles start over. Eventually you'll have enough worms at various stages of growth and won't have to purchase worms at all.
Ah yeah when you first start it off it can take a while to see results, so I always end up buying other feeders in the meantime :)
Omg Hii! I bought merch the donut mess with the geckos
I been putting the pupae with the beetles
could the beetles escape from any cracks in the drawer system? like the bottom drawer if you dont catch them on time?
Nah. The beetles can't grasp the plastic sides of the container - too slick/steep.
Do you still do leopard gecko cage reviews I just got my new cage and I think it’s quite good
Is this possible to do on a smaller scale for one gecko?
Can we still use those wood shavings for bedding?
I have 3 really nice leopard geckos and they are not even a year old and love to get out there enclosure
very unrelated but,, i'm gettting uva and uvb lights for my future gecko and i'm not sure how many watts or what % to get? i don't want to hurt my gecko with a light too strong for them :(
I’ve looked and looked, but I can’t seem to find it... is there a US equivalent of this?
What light can I use for A Leopard Gecko
I really want this but I wonder what the American equivalent is? Not sure if I want to wait a long time for it or pay high dollar for shipping from the UK 🤔
How is your mealworm farm going?? I’m thinking of getting one. X
Do the beetles escapes the drawers?
Anybody got any ideea how many gallons is a 80x40x50 (Centimeters) tank?
Love you so much
out of curiosity have you ever tried banded crickets?
I read somewhere that beetles needs 2-3 inches deep bran to burry their eggs.
i love you, ur so chill and ur voice is so chill to listen to, u should start a podcast! keep it up! make alot of more videos, i really enjoy watching them! i also bought my first baby crested gecko!
Thank you so much!!
Does the kit ship to the us?
I sent you that UA-cam link for starting a meal worm colony
Are you ever going to breed dubia roaches again
I have a leopard gecko she somtimes goes 1-5 days refusing her food but then goes right back to eating normally. About 3 weeks ago now she started to refuse her food and only will eat 1 butter worm when I attempt to feed her I don’t know what else to try with her
Do the eggs stick to the bedding or do they just slip and fall? And would it be good to use wood shaving for the beetles?
Wood shavings are fine for the beetles, just be sure to give them a food source. Not sure about the eggs.
Hi, do you know where to get that substrate you have in the U.S.? I recently got a 40 gallon form my leo. Thanks!
You can order eco earth and that is the best substrate because it won’t Impact them
Hey can any one help me out I'm new to reptiles and got a baby leopard gecko I dont have a heat mat only a heat lamp should I leave the heat lamp on at night or turn it off
Turn the heat lamp off at night.
I feel kinda guilty. I am about a month behind on all of my pet channels since haven't watched much because I got a bit anime obsessed. Better catch up 😅
Ooo, what anime do you watch?
@@DarkYttrium My hero academia, the promised neverland and so far my personal favourite- bungo stray dogs. I am currently watching assassination classroom and re watching bungo stray dogs
@@user-cm2ev1in7k You have my exact taste😂
@@leahjvr3245 oooh. What a lucky coincidence. 😄
Is it weird that I'm the exact same even with My Hero Academia wtf-
First can’t wait to watch :)
Thanks :D
can we get an update on this please? xo
I luv ur channel ❤️
Any updates on this setup?
I did not get worms or the booklet with my kit.😢
How do I get my gecko to stop pooping in the food tray
Year update on this system?
My dad and I have an idea to build our own tank for my leopard gecko as the one he lives in isn’t very big and not interesting in the slightest do you think we could do this?
Absolutely, that would be great for him!
Make sure to bake ALL of your soil or oats.
Keeps out any mites.
And your mealworms get a tasty baked snack :]
When cleaning out. If you sieve them to get their faeces out won't the eggs come out with it?
@@jodiemills9239 if you use multiple layers with screen on the bottom, eggs will fall through onto a lower layer of your starch of containers, and plus i meant the oat mite eggs and other mite eggs.
@@jodiemills9239 and if you have a finer mesh, you should be able to keep the eggs in.
Thank you. I have the 3 draw system with mesh in the top drawer. I have bug grub at the moment as someone said about mites with oats so wasn't sure about using it. I just didn't want to chuck away any mealworms eggs with the poop.
@@jodiemills9239 your welcome! If you need any information try looking for any videos that can give more information!
hi, hyd. I've watched a good bit of your videos and I'm thinking about getting a leopard gecko in the near or far future, do you happen to know any good sellers?
Hey, what do I do with the beetles/do they fly? Are they better than dubia roaches?
They don’t fly. They’re not better than roaches. You can breed them, use them as a cleanup crew, and/or feed them to the gecko as a treat. Although it’s ideal to feed them off when they’re freshly pupated and still white/light brown so they’re easier to digest.
What company you order this from
Meet the Beatles!
I mean beetles. Great content btw!
Hi @Leopard Gecko
My mealworms are breeding but there’s no beetles im very confused. I bought 60 from the store two months ago and I feed my four leopard geckos every few days and haven’t run out so I assume they’re breeding. I feed them carrots every few days as well. HELP!
What is a decent brand to buy a UVa light from
If you mean UVB, Arcadia is the best. Zoo med’s linear/tube bulbs are second best.
if i want to keep a gecko would i need a heat mat and a heat lamp or a heat mat and just a regular light
A heat lamp would be best. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the best option.
I have a leopard gecko
So then for making the video:D
They ship to the US?
My Leo keeps trying to get on top of her smooth plastic humid hide, even though it is probably impossible for her to get up. Would you recommend anything that would be good for her to climb since she loves climbing but is not the best at it.
I recommend getting something to climb. It could also be that your temperatures are to low and it is going to the highest point in the enclosure because heat rises
@@justinayala6725 the heat is perfectly fine, I have a thermostat and a thermometer. It’s just she likes climbing but there aren’t many climbing things for leopard geckos to safely climb 😃
@Lizard and cat that’s actually a really good idea
I made him a ramp, which goes up to his 2nd floor bathroom (making cleanup of that much easier!😄) idk how to attach an image here or I would.
@@BlairMountainNetwork it’s fine. I found a good ramp,and I think I might order it
Kind of early yay! Also what do you think about housing a male and female leopard gecko together if they get along?
Nope don't do it lol. Even breeders wouldn't continuously house males and females together.
@@leopardgeckotalk thanks!
4th can’t wait to watch
I was wondering is Rex is a good leopard gecko name
Yeah
Yea, it's way better than some of the names I have on my list e.g. BBQ, glowstone, ancient, deduction
