Local South African workers should be given first preference over foreigners, irrespective of their status in the country. This is a very sensible thing to do.

The Governing party is to blame for allowing decades of discrepancies within all sectors, everything is broken, mismanaged, failed. This terrible trucking incidents with it's huge losses is the result of not caring, not hearing the cries of our people. And it's still going to get worse. What was not mentioned is that the local drivers do not want to take international trips as well. So it is a must for these companies to employ some foreign personnel. All i see here is criminal act being covered by inward hate of foreigners.

Construction mafia is another critical issue that exposes ANC’s and the private sector’s incompetencies. People are tired of seeing the same companies given tenders. This will of course results in resentment and lead to unlawfulness.
I am no legal expert but there is some things he is missing. If one person in a family have an essential skill the government issues general work permits for the others (husband or wife) that allows them to do any work. Also the ZEP permit that government tries to cancel after many years now, that was extended until Jul next year also comes with a general work permit. These are the loopholes that are used to do this legally. This is the situation for many years now.

In Switzerland, you can hire a foreigner outside of the scarce skill bracket, but you are required to pay that foreigner 3 times the normal wage for that job. You can see the swiss don like to argue, they just leave you to your financial choices

This obviously pushes up inflation and the reserve bank increase interest rates to stop this inflation from running away. Whether you or I think it is fair or not, does not really matter, that is the way money works....Unless the government devalues the currency by "printing money" in which case the cost of imports increase, which pushed up inflation which pushes up interest rates.
Like I said, you want more money, for doing less work, but you don't want to pay more for products and services.... You can "fight" all you like, all you are doing is making businesses uncompetitive and eventually they will shut down, increasing unemployment...

There is a lot of export and import of goods to other countries. I hope this situation does not spill over to those countries for our South African drivers.

Wrong questions being asked. The journalist did not do his homework. The foreign drivers in the trucking industry are ZEP Holders. The ZEP allows them to work in any sector. It should have been made clear, by law or through the Labour Department or Home Affairs that no foreigners, legal or illegal are allowed to work in the trucking industry. You cannot blame the employers as no law has been broken. ZEP Holders are legal and allowed to work. Until this is made clear, those drivers will continue to drive in South Africa.

South African must drive their trucks and when they get to the border they will hand over the trucks to other drivers of that specific country, sit and wait until the operation is over they can be handed theirs truck at the border to drive in south Africa vis versa otherwise South African truck drivers and theirs truck will get the same treatment abroad...

Zimbabwe and Africa must fulfill CRITICAL SKILLS and must have legal documentation. I still have not seen Zimbabwe having refugee status as they are not in a war? There is still no valid reason for them actually being here as they stole Rhodesia, why are they here? They must fix there stolen land and not steal our jobs.
When South Africans travel abroad it's all legal under critical skills and we don't get refugee status or special treatment anywhere. He was about to admit that the licensing department sells licenses instead if granting them to people that pass the drivers test but he realised and just suddenly stopped mid sentence.
Businesses that have to truck their goods should all down tools and stop trucking altogether. Yes, the citizens will feel it BUT the government will feel it more when no goods are delivered to stores. The foreign nationals WORK unlike the locals and most of the locals cannot be trusted in any case - with locals driving, the goods will all be looted before it reaches their destination.

Let's not forget these foreign nationals are contributing to the country's fiscus via all sorts of taxes. Taxes being used to pay grants to much of the local citizens. Yet they are being portrayed as some kind of parasites on the system. People need to think a little. They also spend part of their wages in SA and in this way also support the economy.

If we were to burn down their trucks and the businesses stop to operate, then the consequences to the economy will be far much greater than what we are experiencing now , and then we start to fight each other.

We are speaking about the most vulnerable group of people in country because they have no support in thier countries of origin and none here in SA.
