Went to Inch beach in Co.Kerry last summer & the DJ in the local hotel played this song outdoors ! Thought I was 17 again without a care in the world ! What a tune !
I saw these guys in the U.S. in 1979, they played a local college in NYS. I bought tickets because I liked the name of the band! lol I was glad I did, they sounded great that night.
1979. A "portable" phone required a battery pack and transceiver that took up its own chair back then. They used to look like doctors' house call bags; if you remember that rather common event long gone by. By the time "Lethal Weapon" was filmed in 1986, portables looked like grey bricks; satellite phones often still do.
Rest in Peace Johnny Feen. It's funny, because I hadn't listened to this in months, and I played it earlier. Then a few hours later on the radio the news broke of Johnny's death.
My first time seeing this and what a treat. Such a great song. Could be an Irish National Anthem, that and Dearg Doom...and in some respects they are, as everybody with a drop of Irish blood knows the words deep in their souls and can't help but sing along. Good to see them getting a nice traditional Cork welcome here also. They look so neat and clean-cut here compared with the footage of them from back around 1974. Johnny Fean even reminds me a bit of a young Bruce Springsteen, and Barry looks like a shorter-haired version of Tom Petty. Anyway I do think they are national treasures. Many bands have come along since and been hyped up, but they are the original and still the best, and with no airs and graces either.
Wow ! Ive never seen that clip before, love it ,really smooth performance ,the beards are gone, the hair is shorter ,sound is great. This was the Horslips "inbetweeners"........
@johnareidy Not so much comparable in the end result of their overall sound but the blending of their respective country's folk/traditional with rock. Of course, the connecting prominence of the silver flute too . Tull and Horslips are 2 superb groundbreaking bands.
Bought "The Book Of Invasions" (in Brisbane) as an import album back in the very late '70's. Great album....terrific band. I don't think they made it over to here.
Da da da da da da da da, moutain reaffirim, trouble trouble, da da da da da, lay all your silver and gold. A time to laugh , a rime to die. Da da da da da da da dàda. Its so long away from, take the floer and here we go.
Happy to meet! "High on the mountain stands a boat, but are they gods or real folk?" The craic is strong in these lads! A personal treasure in that I will always have a fav band that virtually nobody in the U.S. has heard of. Please visit with us and checkout the flute solo at about the 2 minute mark here: ua-cam.com/video/ULJzjRKIHWY/v-deo.html - Sorry to part!
Amazing how much their appearance had changed in just a few years. Almost unrecognisable from the earlier 70's look.Still just as awful, but very different. Seem like a great bunch of guys though.
Embarrassed to say I didn't know of their existence until yesterday. Now I'm a fan.
Wake up❤☘️

Great to see an audience totally into it. Not a phone in sight.

Why didn't Johnny Fean do more lead vocals?
Jonny, I believe, was the only one of em that never made his living any other way besides music...🙂
@@tossiegough Yep, he's still tours. Saw him in the Belltable in his home town of Limerick just before the pandemic. Put on a great gig as usual.
