Usually I like her but this was a huge disappointment. This awful trend in many "star" performances is very disturbing, not showing their dancers' faces or being heavily masked etc. They are not seen, not heard. I thought she would be above this crap. I really thought she was smarter than this.

I get you though with dancers not being heard. Check out Jungle they do great at showing off dancers in amazing choreographies.

In case you guys weren’t watching this live: it’s raining. Not as hard as it would an hour later, but raining nonetheless. Gaga’s on heels on a centuries-old uneven pavement. I wouldn’t walk down these steps on heels on a good day, never mind dancing in the rain. Another, em feather in her cap? Such a class act.
To your point, a performer falls at 4:38 (bottom right of screen). A testament to how slippery it was. And yet a moment later Gaga runs full speed up the stairs. In heels. In the rain. Still singing, still smiling, still performing and not falling during her ascent of the wet staircase. Gold medal worthy.

I have followed Lady Gaga since her beginnings and she has never ceased to surprise me. Her evolution over the years and her passage through different genres have made her an exceptional artist. This performance is just a small sample of all the talent she has. Lady Gaga is simply spectacular.

SUBLIME! The right artist for this opening is international and sings in French to perfection. She showed respect for the Olympic Games and the city, showing that she can sing from pop, rock, ballads, country to jazz. It was a show with impeccable choreography, the use of fashion and the tribute to the French fashion house DIOR. Total ovation for the queen of music Lady Gaga.
Beyond the obvious awesomeness, it is clear the dancers are genuinely happy to be there as well. The smiles are broadway broad, but not plastic. She's a lovely human.

I feel so completely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris @Olympics 2024 this year. I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song-a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre. This song was sung by Zizi Jeanmaire, born in Paris a French ballerina, she famously sang “Mon Truc en Plumes” in 1961. The title means “My Thing with Feathers.” And this is not the first time we’ve crossed paths. Zizi starred in Cole Porter’s musical “Anything Goes” which was my first jazz release. Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music-I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and on such a momentous occasion remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth-Paris. We rented pom poms from Le Lido archive-a real French cabaret theater. We collaborated with Dior to create custom costumes, using naturally molted feathers. I studied French choreography that put a modern twist on a French classic. I rehearsed tirelessly to study a joyful French dance, brushing up on some old skills-I bet you didn’t know I used to dance at a 60’s French party on the lower east side when I was first starting out! I hope you love this performance as much as I do. And to everyone in France, thank you so much for welcoming me to your country to sing in honor of you-it’s a gift I’ll never forget! Congratulations to all the athletes who are competing in this year’s Olympic Games! It is my supreme honor to sing for you and cheer you on!! Watching the Olympic Games always makes me cry! Your talent is unimaginable. Let the games begin!

Zizi's singing is so playful and powerful... you can feel the joy... and her dancing is so graceful! 10 seconds into her performance it is clear that she is representing a bird and her plume moves with her perfectly. In this Olympic performance, it was confusing with the 3 sets of feathers... didn't make sense... and while Gaga tried, her performance lacked the natural charisma of Zizi.

Beyoncé was offered this part but she decline due to other commitments. Then Doya Cat was offered but she wanted to do a more jazzy and cabaret version with a bigger production and they couldn’t agree then Lady Gagas team called the Olympics and offered to do this for free and they finally reluctantly agreed after demanding Gaga to loose some weight. Gaga is definitely born that way but she is too fat for Cabaré.
