I never thought I would like anyone else singing this song with James Ingram, but Tamia held her own and made me proud. These two should sing together more often. We need more GREAT duets!!!
Thank you for acknowledging a memorable, profound, powerful, and touching song. We were blessed to have shared in his magical and melodic voice. And most of all, how could this beautiful song and lyrics not touch the heart and mind of every listener? ...................................................................................................................Milwaukee, Wisconsin
He of course is one of the great male vocalists in the business. She on the other hand, at her young age, has absolutely no business singing like an old pro. FABULOUS!!!
WOW WOW, how did I miss this video years ago. Only recently discovered he had passed away, been living in my remote bubble here in Scotland for too long. RIP keep the music playing wherever you are James.
I remember watching this. I PLAYED the tape over and over. TAMIA and JAMES are two of my favorite artists. to see them perform 2gether was PRICELESS. THEY REALLY sang THIS SONG. I'LL NEVER get tired of watching this performance, and it's like 10 year's old. I LOVE IT.

This is beautiful - what loving lyrics - if we can be the best of lovers - yet be the best of friends . . . thank God for people that can write beautiful songs like this - love it !!
I met Mr Ingram when I was 18 working at a rehearsal and concert in new York for quincy jones birthday. He was the coolest, James, you are one of the greatest.
This duet is truly beautiful, I get chills every time I hear these two harmonious vocalists. Wow she was made to sing this version with a legend. And she as well is legendary in my heart!
The two best voices that quincy ever found. Artists get sucked into the void with him, theyre successful but none obviously as huge as micheal, but seriously who is? That doesnt mean that these two and countless others hes propelled to stardom did not deserve it. My God, that was mesmerizing!

I love James Ingram music so much words cannot say. Thank God I got the chance to see him perform at Jamaica Jazz & Blue. I hope to see him perform again one day. Stay bless
My high school choir sang this my freshman year. The choral version was just so incredibly beautiful it gave me chills each and every time I sang it. They don't write them like this anymore. Thanks so much for posting!!
There's a lot of depth and feeling in every note he sings. Very authoritative and masculine, which contrasts her fragile and feminine point of view. When they sing together, every nuance is perfectly synchronized to bring the maximum meaning to every word. Except for the improv at the end, where they let themselves go, it's all about the song and what it really is trying to say and not about showing how good their voices are. That is the coolest way to sing.
My Dad cherished the original with Patti Austin. Tamia is my all time favorite and under appreciated vocalist. James ain't never changed. They sing the hell outta this song. RIP Dad
Danced to this track with Patti Austin on my wedding. Unfortunately we couldn't keep the music playing for too long. Still one of the greatest love songs ever written.
@Waszma I agree 1,000%!! He's so under-rated and he has the most amazing voice of all time! I wish he would sing more songs today! :) Hope he knows how much he's loved and appreciated by all of his fans.
Mrs. Grant Hill threw down on this cut! Very courageous after the way Patti Austin killed it. Great job and James was very gracious in letter her do her thing. Great performance.
man.. what a perfect song.. right along with "Come To Me" and Billy Preston's "Born Again"... it was an era of great songs and great singers.. so glad I was there to see it.. and to see these songs stand the test of time.
Hey this was one of my most favorite duet James and Patti Austin, but when Tamia jumped on this with James yes from 4:05 to the end send chills down my spin. i just ended a long distance relationship and this song made me tear up
James Ingram the perfect interpreter of the emotional content of this piece. Having said that, major respect to Michael Legrand and Alan & Marylin Bergman, who wrote this poignant lament to the impermanence of love where there is no adult-level committment.
This performance was not part of a UNCF tribute. This was from a short lived late night UPN concert series show. I remembered watching this clip then...these two are so underrated.
Don't come for Tamia because she is working this song. Great stand in for Patti Austin. Tamia held her own baby. I felt a chill at the modulation. "I know the way I feel for you." You go Tamia!!!
MrSevillano60, You misread what I was trying to say. I was trying to say that her singing belies her age. She was 19 when she sang "You put a move on my Haert" and she sounded like an old pro......Fabulous singer!!!
@Waszma Completely and absolutely agree!! James Ingram has been one of the greatest voices of our generation and yet he is unfortunately the most underrated IMHO.
im amazed at how people find negatvie things to say. this is an AMAZING performance. of course she's no Patti Austin, she's Tamia. She's a GREAT singer and she did HER thing. They both killed this joint. Its a beautiful song, beautifully sung. Lyrics are unbelievable... wow, perfect song.
This song reminds me when I was a young lover with my girlfriend we was 2gether 4 10 years & this song was a testiment 4 us @ that time N our lifes. We were the best of friend so I felt that way then she got a bright idea. This was our song.
That's the most under rated vocalist of all time right there. He's amazing, and ridiculously under-appreciated
This young lady has a great voice not just anyone can do a duet with James Ingram. WOW!!!!!!
I played this song at my first wedding we couldn't Keep the music Playing
I never thought I would like anyone else singing this song with James Ingram, but Tamia held her own and made me proud. These two should sing together more often. We need more GREAT duets!!!

WOW WOW, how did I miss this video years ago. Only recently discovered he had passed away, been living in my remote bubble here in Scotland for too long. RIP keep the music playing wherever you are James.
James has one of the best male voices in R&B! and Tania killed it. She did Patti proud : -)
I LOVE IT.
Perfect combination of good singers...I always love and admire James Ingram
Once in a while a song comes along that just makes you feel sooo much, and pulls at your heart strings...THIS IS IT. PERIOD.
Tamia is a shocking surprise, this is a very difficult, beautifull song and James Ingram is amazing, uncredible... good for boths.
One of the greatest ballads of all times!!! The lyrics and the two most amazing singers!!!! Muchas Gracias!!!! Very heartfelt!!!!
Thank you for acknowledging a memorable, profound, powerful, and touching song. We were blessed to have shared in his magical and melodic voice. Tamia is another beautiful voice that never got a lot of recognition. They and Patty Austin and they all sang for Quincy Jones at one time or another.
The two best voices that quincy ever found. Artists get sucked into the void with him, theyre successful but none obviously as huge as micheal, but seriously who is? That doesnt mean that these two and countless others hes propelled to stardom did not deserve it. My God, that was mesmerizing!
REAL ARTISTS IN ACTION!!! What in the world has happened to music today!?!? Classy, decent, sensual....etc...bring it back please!!
Thank you for acknowledging a memorable, profound, powerful, and touching song. We were blessed to have shared in his magical and melodic voice. And most of all, how could this beautiful song and lyrics not touch the heart and mind of every listener? .............................................................................................Milwaukee, Wisconsin
One of the most touching songs in my younger years.. this song transitions time.. the original is so beautiful.
We definitely need a variety show that brings on talent for us to be entertained. I could listen to them all night long. Just wonderful.
I love James Ingram music so much words cannot say. Thank God I got the chance to see him perform at Jamaica Jazz & Blue. I hope to see him perform again one day. Stay bless
Thank you for this. I remember watching this on tv in the late 90's. They killed it and i never forgot about this version.
My high school choir sang this my freshman year. The choral version was just so incredibly beautiful it gave me chills each and every time I sang it. They don't write them like this anymore. Thanks so much for posting!!
