  • 1930s German military circles, which included Generalmajor Oswald Lutz and his Chief of Staff, Oberstleutnant Heinz Guderian, predicted the need for two types of tanks that were to perform two different tasks.
    One was to engage enemy tanks and the second was to act as a fire support vehicle. The role of the anti-tank vehicle was to be carried out by the Panzer III series.
    The first of the Panzer III series was the Ausf. A version. This vehicle served mostly as a test bed for the new concept of a medium tank designed to engage enemy armor. While this vehicle would be built in limited numbers, it would see some combat action during the early days of the war due to the German Army’s lack of tanks. Despite its flaws and small production run, the Panzer III Ausf. A was the first step towards the development of what would become Germany's main combat tank until it was superseded by the long-barrelled Panzer IV from 1942 on.

    Interesting how the Germans went to their own way of the suspension in the Ausf. A. Very similar to the Christie suspension, even though its not entirely copied from the Christie suspension at all.

    Hi there , I was wondering if you could possibly clear up some points made in this video. The first one being how many panzer III ausf A tanks were actually made considering you say that the number most people say of “15” is not true, yet don’t specify how many were actually made or why this information is untrue. secondly you mention that the loader had a folding seat that they would move out of the way during combat and simply stand on the turret basket floor ??? This confused me since from the best of my knowledge no panzer III tanks had turret baskets and only the IV did. I was just wondering if there was an exception made for the panzer III ausf A or if this was a mistake. Other than that it was an amazing video with great images and I can’t wait to see more from this channel. I hope you have a great day, best regards: Cassidy ^_^

      Hello
      The number of manufactured vehicles is 10. this figure is based on the number of chassis (60101-60110) used during their construction. In addition the sources is based on the well known Panzer Tract series. Regarding the turet baskets its was my mistake an it will be corrected in the article.
      Thanks for your message and suggestion!

    Remember when Wot still had the pz3 a instead of pz3 e those were the good times very quick very fun no armor 14mm punchy gun small target and then came e for some more nearly useless armor 30mm you were suddenly slower and a bigger target

    • @TanksEncyclopediaYT
      @TanksEncyclopediaYT  3 роки тому

      the Panzer III E is quite a bit smaller than the A

    • @SooSFan
      @SooSFan 3 роки тому

      @@TanksEncyclopediaYT Thanks for replying i guess i should have been more specific. The Pz 3 a has perhaps a bigger volume and its certainly longer but its not as wide nor as tall as the Pz3 E.
      Since length is not important when you show the front to the enemy the pz3 a was in wot in most cases a smaller target.
      There is also the possibillity that the Pz3a with its old standart definition model has been modelled smaller than it should have irl and therefore when it got replaced with a high definition (all tanks got HD models later on) Panzer 3 E model which is suppossedly correctly sized the difference was much more noticeable.
      If the Pz3a was indeed to small than it would make sense to swap the pz3a to the later e model since if the tank was getting bigger anyway the small difference in size between the models a and e is not worth losing the armor
      the model e would provide. Checked your encyclopedia for the measurement thanks for your work

      Probably dwelling on the past, Pz 3 E’s 30mm of armor means it’s capable of ricocheting any shell it can face aside from tier 4 howitzers, while also nearly invulnerable to autocannons. The Pz 3 E is also ridiculously fast and has the same gun as Pz 3 A, so it is just an Pz 3 A with more than double the armor. 😐 It’s probably the strongest non-premium tier 3 right now.

    Personal criticism, not meant to be hostile -- I like these videos and check them out for both information and entertainment.
    * I think there is often too much "attack", too much multisource output, in the videos. In a single sequence, the narration delivers compressed information that I need the subtitles to get...
    but I can't use the subtitles, because they hide the text boxes which just appeared...
    while the images contain a lot of subtle information that I need to think about. This makes for a lot of pause and rewind, and makes it harder to consume the content.
    * Instead of straightforward (=hard to read in many cases) text boxes, put information in designated "head-up" positions. If at all times, identifying information relating to the image (PzKpfw IV C / Heinz Guderian / Kasserine Pass) appears in the upper right corner, key points in a list to the left (* engagement * breakthrough *exploitation), and sequence of events fades in and out in the center ( "Case Blue: start", "Splitting into A and B", "Fighting on the Don") it would be much easier to quickly pick up the information without losing track of what happens in the narration of images, and also to ignore information that I already have. (I realise that this does mean a significantly higher workload.)
    * I can't believe I'm saying this, but the images are often monotonous. They are useful and not bad at all, but even as I am thinking, hey, there is that gadget, or yes, that's what the difference was between A and B, you can only see so many small b/w photos of Ausf A before they start to blend into one another.
    I'm not a video maker; you guys are. You're doing great work as it is, and I'm happy to subscribe. But consider this a little something written in crayon on a candy paper and dropped in the suggestion box.

    There is no "Ausf A" ... it's an abbreviation for Ausführung und needs to be pronounced in full like any proper abbreviation when reading off the full text.
    Sure you can go with only ONCE saying the german word and then switching to "variant"... but this "Ausf" bullshit is embarassing.
    Similarly no german would seriously say "Ess Dee Kay Eff Zed", it's Sonderkraftfahrzeug and we KNOW that.

      How could we kindly explain to you dear Germans that we're not German and your expectations of us speaking perfect proper German are slightly off?
      I do understand that that's how you do it in German, but in English, it has become a common standard to just say the abbreviation. And we do not yet make enough money to be able to pay our narrators for torture.
