343 has made mcc one of the most properly done modern examples and proper documentation of game preservation by a developer, well done 343 and thankyou for respecting bungie fans and the halo series itself. A hard lesson was learned for 343 to put this much effort in, their reward is our everlasting appreciation and endless hype generated for halo.
Not really. It's years later and they're only just now starting to fix it because they decided to use ports they knew were broken in the first place. Until they fix everything I'm still considering it like an early access title. It was sold as having the originals as intended in 2014 and they still haven't done that.

While I wish this stuff was fixed sooner rather than later, at the same time, how many other shooter franchises have their own 'MCC'? I don't think there's another MP series out there that has something like this

Yeah, I've noticed some strange graphical bugs where it looks like models are being stretched in brief flashes on the screen. Also the audio is way to quiet and messed up.

Halo MCC has probably gone from being one of the worst remaster/collections out there to one of the best, though obviously it should've been like this at launch I'm glad they've stuck with it and fixed even the minor mistakes made.
Snail speed seems to be the most serious issue with Microsoft (I know 343i made mcc but they are supervised by microsoft), as it can be seen by mcc’s slow repair, infinite’s defelopment and the windows 11 fiasco. Nontheless I am glad they fixed these issues, after all these years Im surprised they spent so much time on this so respect for 343i and fixes.
I'm replaying the entire Halo 2 campaign now JUST to do these fixes justice. 343 deserves all the respect simply for being the only current day AAA developer that went through hell and high water to deliver these JUST because the fans asked, and honestly, people made more of a fuss over CE's graphic fixes than Halo 2's, which for all your average joe would know was basicaly a surprise until they fixed it. God bless them for it.
The Cortana effect at 10:51 is actually completely accurate. You can just clearly see the same transparency bug the original Xbox has,. Ironically this fix is just introducing a bug again. Likely due to the fog effect in the background.
I played through both versions, and yeah they fixed a lot, but not everything was identical and all fixed, Some parts where there should be Shadows we’re not present, and the dialogue fading in and out depending on the distance of the characters is still not fixed to this day, even radio dialogue is affected too.
I'm just so happy that they finally got around to fixing these issues. Halo 2 has always been one of my favourites and I felt like it suffered just as much as CE did in the hands of Gearbox, but H2 because of the studio that ported it to Vista (and Saber also broke a few more things I think) Audio too I think seemed fixed? And in Halo 1. Only thing I can think to add at this point is cutscene animation interpolation from 30 to 60+ fps
Audio is still pretty broken in Halo 2. Certain characters that talk to you over the radio you won't be able to hear unless you're right next to them. Weapon sounds, how the radio sounds, the music being too quiet, it still needs a lot of work.
@@ColonelFatass3 Actually, (at least from my experiences) the audio in classic is noticeably less compressed. The H2BR on indoor levels like Cairo Station used to sound like it was clipping, now it's substantially better. Audio as a whole still needs work, though

I have an Xbox Series S, which I play MCC on. Mostly Halo CE and Halo 2. I recently re-obtained an original Xbox to play these games as I once did when I was a wee lad. The quality is abhorrent in comparison to their MCC counterparts but the experience of the original can never be replicated; no matter how crisp the modern resolution may be.
4:26 this one kinda urks me the volumetric lighting really stuck out to me and felt so out of place while playing this level, i wish theyd make it look more like the original so it doesnt stick out so much
its like they watched your video and made those fixes... I really wish other groups working on games *cough* grove street games *cough* would put as much time into fixing the visuals to match the original intent.

Pretty sure you are the reason these issues got fixed. They must have seen your previous video when it gained some traction and made it a priority to get fixed, as this was the last major update to the MCC.
After looking at all of these restorations for Halo CE and 2, they are pretty impressive graphically. No wonder people expected Infinite to be a graphical showcase. I'm still not getting my hopes up for Infinite's campaign tho. If it's good, I'm getting it.

Great video as always. I think you were wrong about one thing, at minute 15:31 I think the images are changed since the image of season 7 is the one with the darkest weapons, the most reflective armor and no Z-Fighting.
You're right, good catch. I got my gameplay mixed up there. It's actually showing the Season 7 gameplay at the bottom and the season 8 gameplay at the top.

My only complaint with MCC is the fact they removed each of the game's menus. So now we've got this universal one. I really wanted to explore Reach's UI that looks beautiful.

Love the fixes. Though I've noticed a new bug concerning misaligned muzzle flash. The flash is coming from under the barrel of most weapons where it wasn't before. Very immersion breaking
It looks like the sun might be stretched when being played in widescreen. It shows up as a circle in the 4:3 OG Xbox footage, but more ovular in the season 8 footage.
I remember when I first played halo 2 as a kid in 2006 i remember it still looking gorgeous even during that time. Im glad 343 decided to restore the classic OG xbox look
MCC has been one of the shining lights I've had in my life during this dark period we have all been going through these past 2 years, the team that keeps making it better is just so impressive to me. They are doing amazing work.
Ngl I think without the shadows it made halo 2 legendary easier to spot enemies before this. I'm glad I did it just before this update lol. Another thing with the remaster it's beautiful but old graphics have less details meaning easier to spot enemies. Though now it's handy to use the new graphics in darker areas which are even darker now
That bloom effect + grittier dark colors were absolutely essential to restoring the classic XBOX look

That’s not true Halo 2 classic is borderline unplayable rn because of how bad the audio is, especially on Xbox.

IMO Halo 2 Classic is now the second best looking game in the collection after Halo 2 Anniversary.

The music audio in the classic graphics for Halo 2 is too quiet, It should be as loud as the remastered graphics.
