EXACTLY! So sick of hearing people say "Jaylen Brown can't dribble." He's not Kyrie, for sure, but I think he's simply inconsistent with his ball handling and he doesn't have the greatest basketball IQ, imo.

@@bmurr912 it’s a thing in that he’s way better going right and way worse going left. But he can still of course go left. So it is in fact over blown and over exaggerated by opposing players. Draymond said he was forcing him left and Jaylen still gave the warriors buckets in the Finals and playing well. and from the fan perspective it is for troll/jokes.

He’s a talented player with a simple game plan. In the playoffs every team is aware of his game plan for attacking and they’re also allowed to be more physical with him than regular season. This why Jaylen has always struggled as a playmaker and is the biggest hole in his game. But as a Cs fan I do believe he can overcome these faults. He is both talented and hard working. If for some reason he can’t develop his left hand he can also develop a reliable back to the basket game to punish the smaller players he struggles to drive against like the wings of the 2000s had like kobe or Paul pierce could pull out in favorable match ups. I think one of the big reasons Brad traded for Porzingis was to punish teams that play switch everything defense vs us bc all of our bigger players are on the perimeter anyways except Rob willaims who isn’t a scoring threat. But now if smaller players switch when defending the Jays when KP sets the screen it will lead to a KP post up that he was very deadly in during his final wizards season.

@@9614cp well I’ve been watching my Celtics a long time and I’m very confident that it doesn’t matter what KP likes bc in the Celtics offense every player sets screens. The Jays are our two stars even they both do it depending on the play. Even our PGs set screens for Jayson. Our shooting bigs do it. And our inside bigs do it. Im very sure we will be watching KP set screens here and there this upcoming season lol. And I’m not even talking about like real hard screens where you roll or pop hard after. I’m talking the little baby screens the modern nba has where the defense doesn’t even try to fight it they just switch and the offense gets the match ups they want. Happens every game with every team in modern pro ball.

@@sGzBugz It does matter what KP likes cause he is the type of player who complains and does not play to the best of his ability if he doesn’t like his role with the team. He has done it with 3 different organizations now. He is a finesse player, he does not want to do any dirty work. He doesn’t want to play inside, rebound the basketball, set screens or do anything a role player would have to do. That’s why he often plays at the 4 position instead of the 5 position. That’s why he wanted to leave Wizards so badly, cause they were playing him at the 5. He wanted to leave the Mavs cause he didn’t want to run pick and roll with Luka.

I play basketball. When a defender is pressuring up it can be really tough. Especially someone who is more athletic
I love it when they're up in my face. The fakes will get them everytime. After that, it's a blow by!!
He doesn’t like pressure going left, especially when his straight line momentum is blocked off by physicality. His hand doesn’t move in sync with his body's slowing momentum and that leads to him losing the ball when it goes beyond his reach. He also has small hands for his size, which definitely doesn’t contribute much to ball control.
You spittin and he's predictable when going left sometimes to me he dribbles too much. If he tightens his handle and gets stronger going left and can think under pressure he'd be fine.
Runs and dribbles on his toes like a sprinter. With a slight lean forward. Needs to flatten out a bit for better balance , leverage and change of direction.
Yeah and he’s not squared when he dribble which keeps causing him to lose balance! He def needs to work on his ball control too. And spend the whole summer strengthening his left hand cause he def can’t do more than 1 dribble with his left hand without wanting to go back to his right

the whole brown cant go left comes from nba defenses forcing him left because that is the uncomfortable option. it is a legit flaw thats exposed. its what seperates him from being a notch above of what he is. extreme overpay still for being a 2nd option.
He is too easy for the battle tested playoff teams. Brown makes his money in the regular season 😂 guess that's good enough for casuals
Great analysis. I find that most of Brown's worst turnovers occur when he is moving left and pushing the ball forward with force, with a high dribble and not protecting the ball with his body. He exposes the ball to the defender(s) for easy poke-aways.

Sounds like Jaylen would improve if he worked on his hand strength and had dribbling drills where the trainers constantly pressured him.
Pretty cool analysis. Really paints him as more of a "cracks under pressure" type of player to me. He has skills but he also has flaws that once people pick up on and use against him, he can't counter. Really needs to deepen his bag imo, if majority of the time he starts to go left (and doesn't lose his footing/get stripped) he just turns it into a pull-up then I feel that makes him predictable.
Also, he will not pass the ball in these situations, which is a matter of his decision-making and the lack of coaching emphasis on player movement without the ball. Maybe if Mazzulla wasn't the gym teacher from the local high school the Celtics might have an actual offensive system.

●Better at concealing the ball with his body when dribbling in general
●Better at passing the ball out when a double team comes
●Putting his head down when driving downhill so he cant be back tapped.
All fixable things. Hes already hyper efficeint. He just needs to make small tweaks and better reads. Hed be a 30ppg scorer with lower Turnovers if he does
But sadly the Celtics already gave him 300 mil so he doesn’t have to get better at any of that 😂😂

Its only been a year or 2 where he is 2nd option. During the kyrie era, he was 3rd maybe 4th option with gordon hayward (that was the intention before the injury anyway). and then he was promoted to 3rd option. And his playmaking and isolation has improved! He will definitely need more reps and will get that now that he's locked up for the forseeable future. His dribbling and ball handling was always an issue, but has shown some improvement. His most noticeable growth was his iso offense, passing and decision-making. He was always a great off ball slasher, and defender. Now his once inconsistent shooting has improved. He's only going to get better.
Now imagine if his lift hand dribble was at least 80% tight like his right hand dribbles and driving strong to the basket, he will be almost unguardable. I’m sure after that big super max contract he will improve his left hand dribble.

AI always went to his right both when finishing at the rim and crossover as if looked like he couldn’t use his left hand(saw only 1 clip he finished with left hand and looked natural) but still super lethal
When AI was forced left he could drive left with ease, it wasn’t a hindrance, just not a preference
Ai is only 6 ft tall so naturally it’s easier to have a tighter handle w low center of gravity
ummm although having a strong hand is an issue, the problem starts when you do not have good footwork, handles and change of speed. Luka has a strong hand, however, he can keep the ball in his hands and his speed changes make him deadly. Now not having any control with your left hand is a problem.
NBA players make it look way too easy to use the non-dominant arm, it takes entirely different footwork and more to go into the deep paint and score with the off arm, very tough. Takes incredible dexterity.
It also shows laziness in trying. I put one year of consistent practice with my off hand and it began to feel just as natural as in my main hand.
For 300 million, not being able to drive left shouldnt be a concern.
There are 8th graders who have no issue going left.

I think also contributing to his ball handling troubles this postseason in particular was that he had a few left hand/arm injuries either during the playoffs, or right before they started, which could’ve been why he looked more uncomfortable going left.
Last postseason it wasn’t as noticeable, and he was the best Celtic in the finals, but JB has always had some ball handling problems. As a Celtics fan who has watched this man through his entire career, he has actually improved his handle a good amount if you can believe it lmao. I think rather than solely focusing on his handle, the team should limit his iso touches, because pretty much everything else he is consistently great at. A JB iso is either the most pretty, or the most infuriating thing to watch, and no in-between

I really think all his missing in his bag is a behind the back dribble . He has one but he likes to use it to set up a spin move to the right shoulder for a fade away but I think if he use it to set a blow by or a left hand snatch back he should be good

Worth mentioning almost more than dribbling imo is how good he’s gotten with defender control with his left arm. He can dribble with his left. But honestly he can’t subtly control his defender with his right arm like he can with his left.
This is going to sound weird but I brush my teeth with my left hand bc I’m on my phone with my right to kill time. Yes, I can absolutely brush my teeth with my right hand, it’s my dominant hand. BUT I cant scroll in my phone on my left . It’s the complimentary actions with my other hand stopping me. I think the same is true for brown . If he has to he can go left but watch How less active his right arm is to create space.
He also doesn’t have a scoop shot in his bag with left only. That’s a huge issue for him bc his speed makes that shot lethal on his right as it avoids being blocked. The likes of Kyrie and Steph both have left handed comfortability scoop layups and shots with their off hand.

I think his struggle with the left was accented last season because his right hand was completely cut open during the playoffs. He probably went left more than he was comfortable with especially with that injury to his right hand.

I think it's all mental. Brown is a genius and really knows the game. But when he feels there are no "correct" options, he gets way too consumed and loses focuses. When he does so he is so keen to beat his man on the drive he often ruins it for hisself.
That definitely plays a big factor
when drawing 3 defenders there should be enough options for an assist instead of spinning and crashing right into them.

He lacks feel and iq, it shows in his playmaking and decision making. This is something that would get ironed out if he had his own team and saw those tougher #1 type coverages more regularly. Until then he should be better at exploiting the heaps of spacing he does play in.

JB would thrive more if he moves without the ball. It will mask his weakness on ball handling, making him more efficient on offense.

Good analysis. I'm not trying to defend Brown. Here're my takes.
1. Brown has improved every year, & still hv room to improve his handles of course. He ain't a PG so I think the coaching staff (Udoka & Mazulla) should bear some responsibilities for making him a driver wl the ball. They both should hv designed plays to let him catch the ball elsewhere & some plays as a cutter.
2. What would be more objective is to show ALL is left handed possessions to proof your point.
3. You should do a video on how much improvement Tatum & RW made in last 4 yrs
4. Heat & LY's Raptors' & Warriors tactics on both Tatum & Brown was slap (on the hands / arms ) & close with 2 players on the lane. This forces the refs to make a call. From what I observed, 50% of the time were clean & that means putting pressure on Brown & Tatum to hold ontot the ball. Other 50% were not clean while maybe 1/2 of the calls were made.
This is also why teams opt not to double JB, no matter how hot he is. Because it doesnt require more than 1 solid defender to turn him over

10-20 years ago he would’ve been so much better when they would’ve had him not handling the ball from beyond the three point line and instead just giving it in the mid post in positions to catch on cut and slash more or pick and pop/roll situations with his athleticism and ability to shoot
But Jayson Tatum had a lot of TOs as well in their playoff run but no one mentions that
With him it has definitely developed into a mental deficiency now more than anything. He has developed a stutter problem and also has a glitch in his jumpshot. I believe rather than just playing ball he has become dependent on only focusing on analytics and has taken over his playing the game the right way and having fun mentality and has deprived him of his natural God given abilities. Hopefully he and Tatum can learn to play together rather then just taking turns going one on one just worrying about getting their numbers and analytics. Analytics can definitely take the fun out of basketball when players become so worried more about percentages rather than winning.
I mean everyone who ever played a lefty ball handler including in the NBA agrees to the gentleman's agreement that its a 50/50 proposition on which hand they'll use and finish with no matter the physics.

It seems like his feet and momentum isn’t aligned when he goes left… doesn’t mean he can’t dribble with his left but it seems he doesn’t practice isos going left that much.
He needs to work on his post game.
Back down a smaller defender and pass if he can't beat the double team.
He needs to work on his off-ball movement...
Don't just go straight to the basket...pass the ball, run around and then get the ball back in motion so defenders can't just set up on him. Curry is a master at this.
And of course, work on his handles...do the Kyrie and Curry drills for better handles.
So how is this corrected by the team without offending him?

The whole "Can't go left" phenomenon is overblown. He doesn't average 27 ppg but straight line driving and cutting back door. He creates his shots and scores in transition effectively....HOWEVER I think he needs to add a post game, he would dominate against smaller player by utilizing spin and post drives to proceed to the rim and finish or shoot over the smaller defenders.

Now I need folks to go back and watch plays of him going left with no issue prior to his left wrist injury that required season ending injury. Heck just look back at his playoff series against the Heat in the Bubble, he only had 2 games in a 6 game series where he had more than 2 turnovers and in those 2 games he had 4 TO a piece which isn't bad for a player or his usage rate. 2022 he's coming back from wrist surgery and obviously no one completely heals within a year and the Heat take advantage. 2023 against the Hawks and 76ers he has no turnover issues really except for 1 game against the Hawks where he had 6 TO and mind you he injured his left hand headed into the playoffs requiring stitches, then game 1 against the Heat Bam fell on JBs left arm and fucked up his elbow. Mind you up to this point Jaylen Brown has never been bad in a playoff series before and he's been in more playoff series than most players since he's been in the NBA and turnovers weren't his only issue all of sudden he couldn't shoot or buy a basket, dude played injured and folks just ran with a dumbass narrative because it got a lot of clicks and views.

His turnover numbers comparatively along with Tatum is very low outside playoffs. This year jaylen’s hurt hand affected his play. But a lesser held belief is he’s asked to be the traffic guy. That’s his role, to get dirty baskets. This is further complicated in playoffs by two notions. One smarts guy has doubled consistently and never guarded. Two, the Celtics bigs weren’t capable of pulling big guys from basket, both have been improved with KP acquisition. Smart also slows things more in playoffs and makes play deliberate. Jaylen is best in transition.
To think this guy deserves 304 million is absolutely ridiculous.
