- China is building brand new islands and air strips in the South China Sea along some of the world's most vital trade routes. One tiny island claimed by a U.S. ally is being surrounded. CBS News correspondent Seth Doane takes a look at what it's like living near disputed territory.

For sure there is oil in the South China Sea. I was asked to take a look and see if I could detect any oil there. I was hoping to get a contract agreement for this work. I did a small spot check verification of about eight square miles and detected a goodly amount of oil there. Now that this is all tied up so to speak I am on hold for the time being!

Wow thanks for checking. This is 2 years ago. Philippine Army and the USA are building a military base in this island from the latest news. The Chinese lapdog Duterte allowed USA to have access of Philippine military bases all over the islands if worst come to worst. They're also building military bases in Zambales and Palawan. Our country is still below poverty line but with your discovery it brings hope to our people. Pagasa island is not only at stake here
It's the rest of the islands with multiple developing cities in the middle...Palawan, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu, Lapu lapu, Clark etc. These cities are rich and developed cities even in the 1800's.
