  • Second Bruce Springsteen gig in two weeks, this time in Sunderland. What's he like in 2024? Is he worth seeing one more time? Why bother? I try and answer these questions, and throw in a few clips.

    A lovely, thoughtful review from One who Knows - it has always been the emotional connection that sets him apart, especially in a bloody big arena. You’ve done him justice, and he is ‘like family’. We need to appreciate him whille we can.

      Cheers Andy. Given the number of uncritical reviews that show up on here, I'm pleased to have made a contribution that reflects Bruce's declining powers, but determined efforts that warrant respect.

    This is not what I wanted. I put this on while I was in the bathroom, expecting to hear some music. Instead all I got was you talking on and on, and it took me 13 minutes between shaving and showering to turn you off. I will never get those 13 minutes back. You need a clearly title to warn people that they are getting you, and not music.

    I love Atlantic City! Quality track I haven’t thought of in a while. I always love your honest breakdown of the listening experience. The guy had a cold and you gave it a positive spin for his effort. Outstanding! 👍🎸

      Ta very much Mike. I try and be fair, but do my best not to be fawning when it comes to my heroes. They're all human, just like us mere mortals!

    I recently caught Simple Minds on their Global Tour at Birmingham arena, and even though Kerr and co are heading to the mid 60s they sounded as good now as they did back in 1986 when I first saw them live.

      😂 I'm sorry, but you might want to have a sit-down and actually listen to what I say in the video (you won't though). To describe me as one of the 'haters' is laughably wide of the mark.

    I've only seen the Boss once, way back in 1985. I see what you mean by Bruce being just behind the beat. I really enjoyed this video and the live clips!

    Hi David, great video. I have 5 Springsteen records and awaiting Letters to You, which I got for a real cheap price. I have always found him to be a sincerely kind and thoughtful person in addition to a great artist. Also enjoyed the live stream.

    The night after this gig he was receiving the Ivan nouvelle award in London he sang thunder road he has a heavy cold his voice was shot and he looked tired , he doesn't mime or use auto tune like most do I think he has still got 35 more gig's in Europe and I think he will be thinking about Australia he loves touring,

    • @davidatkinson-lifematters4826
      @davidatkinson-lifematters4826  4 місяці тому

      I don't think auto tune would serve him well! And, to be fair, I'm not sure it serves anyone well. Better to enjoy an authentic performance, even if the voice is ragged. Many of us still enjoy Dylan's efforts, even though his voice is as ragged as it gets. I didn't see Bruce's performance at that London awards show, but it's comforting to know that my guess at him having a cold wasn't wide of the mark.

    Thank you for this. I enjoyed your honest review. For me I felt a bit melancholy after the Edinburgh 2023 concert. I think he may have been unwell, but there was something not sitting right with me. At Sunderland he was like a new man. The energy from him and the band was amazing. When you talk about his connection with the audience, I always feel like I'm at the local pub watching a rock and roll band having a good old dance and sing along and going home happy. The way the audience feed off his energy is amazing. Only thing I would say is don't compare them to their early days, compare them to the rock bands of the day. They can definitely hold their own. They are amazing. I'm hoping they will be back on a Born to Run tour next year and it definitely has to be at St James Park 🙏

    Great artist that I have seen a couple or three times in Sheffield over the years. On another note I used to follow Sunderland up to about 20years ago and had some brilliant lads days out at the Stadium of Light and watching your video brought back some fantastic memories. Too fragile now though!
