I just built one of these with a very similar mechanism, i came on youtube to watch videos of others gearboxes to see how to improve it and then came across this! I didnt expect to see a mechanism so similar. Great video!
Yes it is common that people came up with the same idea, we all work with the same bricks 😄. What can be truly upgraded here is the chassi and compactness (which is my next video btw)
genius using the indexer for the clutch also. AND because of the design of the clutch actuation, it would allow for a 'manual override' to start the...vehicle moving.
I am not planning to make a tutorial, instead try recreat it with your own touch. This way you will fully understand the mechanism and why not upgrade it.

Never thought of it but yes you can ! You just disengage the locking system of the indexer, which is great if you switch speed manually too
