You can't come in late in the game to an area like most of Florida and expect it to be affordable. It's been popular as a place to move in general and for retirees for almost 40 years now. A place gets popular, people move there, and costs go up. That's how it worked in Austin, Norcal, Phoenix, and any other place that people have flocked too. In the 80s, the cost of living in Florida was crazy cheap in many areas- not so much these days.

Great story Very well reported. Thanks. Those qualities are rare in TV news these days.
What hurts me the most is home owners ins. and flood ins.
That's federal. We have no states rights again.
Don't forget car insurance too😢
800 to 2000??? Thieves!!
That price hike is just vulgar, inexcusable.
They probably want to sell the property
Rental apartment complexes after the pandemic rent increased from $900 to $1400. Why because they could.Pure greed. Mayor's and governor. Did nothing about it.
I do feel truly bad for this woman. That is a serious increase. In my mobile home park I charge $550 month up north.
Oh really where bout up north
The housing is just one of the many reasons to avoid Florida. Our relatives that retired to Florida end up trapped in their house during the heat and humidity of the summer. Then there is the hurricanes. Also they find crime in Florida is a serious issue.
Florida is over for "cheaper" living ....The secret got out .....Real estate is out of control .....
If your trailer rent goes up to 2k from $800, you better move the hell out
Remote workers and people retiring early are flocking to sunny destinations. Remote workers can work multiple jobs at the same time and work remotely somewhere else during bad weather.
The State of Florida is going to become the 2nd California
It sounds like her park was either sold to a corporation and they are raising the lot rents, happened to me, or a corporation already owns it and is trying to price the residents out and develop the property. That happens quite a bit also.
And many of those Corporations are international
Yes it's happening in many states
As a retired disabled Army veteran I rent an apartment I have no interest in buying a house at my age 66 years old, single/divorced my 2 girls are professionals now have their own family, i am debt free, I eat at cheap places and still have money to save, when I get older and become terminally ill I will take the easy way out, no suffering.
That’s sad. Inflation is a killer.
it not all inflation when it comes to house, it is a factor, but it is more about supply and demand and the overpricing as a result.......
What bad reporting! the story talks about lot rent being more than doubled to over $2000 a month, then talks about how retirees should just save more. The problem is that corporations should not be allowed to double someone's rent overnight! Talk about that.
That may be us pretty soon. Cost of living is skyrocketing
Alabama maybe but Wyoming? You'd end up spending half the year indoors watching Me TV reruns
😂
The wind and freezing weather keeps people out of Wyoming. Blizzards there ain’t no joke!
😂
As long as CHiPS and M*A*S*H are one there I'd be ok for a while.
@@clineshaunt Married with Children.
some ??? that happened mid pandemic. there almost all gone. at $2500.00 month lot rent, that land owner is geting out and and has a buyer in the winds. wake up.
It’s expensive to live in Florida!
Property taxes are horrible in Florida, they need to stop increasing so much each year. Rental properties especially need a cap on property taxes. There should be no difference in taxes if you live in a home or rent it out.
My property taxes on 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage on 80' x 120' lot in Palm Coast Florida is $662 per year. I have homestead and senior discount.
@@garyr4211 My property taxes for a very modest two bedroom house on a shitty street in Lutz with no sewers and water lines is €4500 a year.
Homestead exemption , what part of that don't you get .
Was that a question?
Living in a home or using it to make money .
I lived here 35 years I don’t wanna live here any longer. I’m working on the idea of getting out of here that governor isn’t helping matters any either burning books worrying about everything except what’s important.
Move to the Midwest Ohio, Michigan cheaper cost of living and you can actually afford to buy a home up north. The south is just to expensive Florida, Carolina's, Tennessee, Georgia.
Florida HOAs: Paying for your communities insurance is a always ever-increasing cost.
Stay put, folks. There's nowhere to go.
South Carolina is super expensive now just like Florida with less inventory.
No surprise
2000 for a trailer???
After 7yrs.,I'm packing for 'greener pastures'too much $$$$$$for everything. 😎🌴🐊
It's happening to Texas also..everyone moving here and making people from here move
That's not true. People are leaving due to the sky high property taxes that Abbott and his cronies jacked up across the State.
Not true only in certain cities lone star state is more affordable than majority of the sunbelt
Florida has been a retirement destination for over 100 years .
Where is our local leadership? who do they represent?
The useless governor Ron DeathSantis has done nothing to help anyone but himself. Do-Nothing Rubio and Corrupt RIck Scott are two schmucks that haven't done anything at all..People seem to continue voting against their own best interests.
they represent themselves
@@Eyeris625yes like every politician across the country
South Carolina is full.
and they are building like crazy, huge buildings and gated communities in Lee County in SW Fl.
It isn't legal to do this. Let the landlord try to evict you. It is unreasonable seizure of property. These seniors are not financially lax. They saved and are being put in predicaments of poverty that they didn't contribute to. Don't let these corporations just whisk you away with nowhere to go. At least stand up for yourself in court and make a fool of them.
Two choice. (1) economize or (2) move someplace cheaper
Save 20% of my income??!! Not in this economy!
Yes and at the rate of inflation 20% estimate will soon be too low
Wow that’s what most retirees did their entire lives and still can’t afford the cost of living
My husband and I were in Miami last month for vacation. We stayed in the Keys for a few days and then went on a cruise. The food alone is so expensive! I told my husband, I don’t know how people can afford food here let alone live here, and then I just came across this video.
Home owners insurance/auto insurance is out of control too!!!
never buy a house or condos in Florida unless u wanna give HOA your money every month
Florida will be the place the prosperous and very prosperous enjoy on the East Coast. The poor will live ther with little or no insurance coverage. Soon that condition will be seen everywhere across the globe as climate change costs are factored into insurance premiums and many risks will no longer be insured at all
Warm weather equals atrocious humidity, and low taxes only means that you get shafted differently if Floridistan!
You mean because you want the government to take care of you?
Florida is highly over rated
Seriously overrated.
yes.. please stop coming here!
and very low wages in Florida
@@marvelharris9540 OK! Don't try to sell your home then.
@@h.sanchez5347 You can always hunt, or fish.
These cost of living videos make me feel like a rich man. My condo is paid for, and my monthly expenses for condo fees, property tax, heat, electric, gas are about $800 per month, and much lower in the summer.
$800 in summer 😊
If you have an HOA thats where they're getting some poeple now. Also Insurance too.
Cheapest states to live: 1. West Virginia
2. Alabama
3. Mississippi
4. Arkansas
5. Louisiana
6. Indiana
7. Delaware
8. Oklahoma
9. Kentucky
10. Ohio
She should move. But like most people, she won't. People are stupidly stubborn to the end. See it a million times. She gotta have the 'sun life'... @ a 50% markup.
True. Well done. That is correct. These "retire in Florida" people are delusional.
"Set aside money for emergencies." 😂 This is the US, getting by from day to day is an emergency 🤣
No shade to the Heart of Dixie, but this is the first time I've ever heard of Alabama being a retirement destination unless you're from there or you have family there.
Times have definitely changed.
My daughter left Florida for Alabama. She has a two bedroom, one bath for 650 in a decent neighborhood . She doesn't want to come back😊
Thats because its connected to FL but not nearly as desirable which makes it a cheap state to live
Depends city’s or small towns couldn’t afford moving out to cheapest area.
This guy must be joking low taxes in Florida we’re. My trailer is own my land and when I got in in 2014 I was paying a little over $500 a year now I’m paying well over a Thousand. My property value hasn’t gone up so why has my taxes. So please tell me where the low taxes are. A Hurricane took out some of my house so I built back now they think I owe more cause I paid out of pocket to build back.
Thanks, Rebecca!
Down to Mexico !!!
Florida wants to drain your retirement bank account
Fleeing Tampa that is my motto as well because this is not a place for retirees anymore. Thank you, DeSantoad
So move to a state where there are no real jobs or economy, then you can have cheap cost of living. If you try to go anywhere anyone actually wants to live it's going to cost you.
Florida's not worth living in if it's cheap. It's DEFINITELY not worth living in if it's expensive.
The great reset is happening you will own nothing
how is this legal !??
No rent control.
i live in upstate n.y, i live in a 55+ mobile park, i bought my trailer in 2012 it has a enclose front porch with lots of windows a back deck for sunning a storage shed, its a 2006 home and i paid $25,000 cash, my lot rent was $280.00 a month 12 years later my lot rent is only $345.00 a month so in 12 years my rent has only gone up $65.00, my landlord is the best, he only raises the rent when his taxes go up and if you need a repair he will gladly fix it at a very low cost so you don't have to hire a contractor, Im not moving anywhere, you can take Florida and shove it, with the heat humidity bugs, crime, hurricanes, sure its cold in the winter but not this winter it was in the 60's yesterday and no snow on the ground
It is literally impossible to save money because health and homeowner's insurances are going up with their premiums. Auto and homeowner's taxations are also largely expensive. How can you save when insurances are bleeding you dry?
Florida is a rich persons joke! I have worked here for 35 years. And will never be able to buy another home.
Soon as people move to those three states, that's going to go up also. They did not expect people to live as long as they have.
The cost is gone up all over the United States and all over the world so guess what deal with it
“Deal with it “ ? Many retirees don’t have the ability to pay those kind of prices . Your comment was flipping rude and uncalled for .
@@siriusstar99Social Security was never meant to be the only income after retirement.
Yea deal with it
@@subicstationditosailor4053 Everyone knows that , but thanks for the update.
Deal with it. That's what I am doing after spending my entire adult life working as a firefighter here in Florida. I served the people in my city in some of the worst times of their lives. I am now retired and am finding that the cost to live here is outpacing my income. Costs are up everywhere but the biggest cost for me is insurance. It has doubled in 3 years. My family lives in other states and their cost of living vs their quality of living is much better. The other issue here is traffic and population density. The people coming here are not of the highest quality either. I will be leaving the state before long and will not miss what this place has turned into at all. It was a great place to live just a few years ago.
😊ya drive out the elderly then drop the price so can make the retirement areas into illegal migrants housing units
No government regulations, low taxes have their dark sides. Need balance.
I want property and rental prices in Florida to increase exponentially.
Thank you.
You chose DeathSantis. Stop complaining.
AMEN..
Where is inflation and housing/rent/lot prices not going up substantially?
