  • He has been an integral part of our existence for over 20,000 years. Throughout history, his contributions have been diverse and invaluable. He's aided us in procuring sustenance, safeguarded our domesticated animals, served as a shield against adversaries, provided navigation during harsh conditions, and rescued us from imminent danger.
Presently, he offers solace, alleviating solitude and assisting us in managing the challenges of advancing age. He has evolved into an unwavering comrade. The origins of dogs raise intriguing questions: How did these remarkable creatures emerge? How did they ascend to such prominence in our lives? How did we forge a collaborative relationship, leveraging their distinct abilities? Moreover, what remarkable feats do they accomplish for us in contemporary times?
Prepare to embark on a journey that unveils the extraordinary escapades of these exceptional beings, showcasing their heroic deeds. Transitioning from wild wolves to beloved companions, from predatory instincts to steadfast friendship, we will traverse the globe to narrate the captivating narrative of how dogs earned their title: man's first friend.

My dog grew up on a semi truck with me. Shared a lot of good and bad times together. We trust each other, and have each other's back. 10 years have passed since I picked him up...a little furball. I'm going to cry like a baby, the day he is no longer with me. It's a friendship that can never be replaced.

Your best friend would eventually eat your your body if you died at home and nobody found you for a week. Dogs are only because we feed them. Everything else we think dogs do is just us gaslighting ourselves into believing they care about us. I do believe dogs are here for us to gain deeper spiritual understanding of ourselves and our true being. Everything dogs do is simply for a free meal.

As an 18 year old, I was a diamond prospector for de Beers in the Kalahari in Botswana. I adopted a dog for this reason. Sleeping in my tent with me, he would be able to warn me of a snake or any other danger. When he was full grown, he came on our 11 mile prospecting traverses. Again, he could sense danger long before we humans could. What an ally and what a comfort to me

My profile pic is Boomer. He is a rescue. He failed a couple of adoptions. He was hit by a car and in a high kill shelter and a few hours from that fate before we adopted him. Still makes me sad to think about that happening even though it didn't. The happiest person I've ever met is this dog. I'm not sure if my wife and I rescued him or if he rescued us. He was so timid and afraid that this would be another rejection when we got him and 5 years later HE owns the place and we are the staff. He's the Best Dog Ever but, they all are. Thanks for this doc. Yeah, the world is a much better place for having dogs in it.

As an adult man I've always shared my life with dogs, my best friends, the very heart of the house, each different from the others and with a soul of their own. Each of them taught me something important. Lost some of them along the way, most of them got old and tired and the last snapshot of their lives has been the warm and caring and loving face of their human daddy. If I could choose where to go after I die, my personal paradise would be a place where all my beloved and precious creatures are. I would get there all of a sudden, call them and pet them one by one. Their souls would talk to me and forgive me for all the time I neglected them and would teach me true and unconditional love.

That is exactly what will happen. Because you have chosen it. There is no maybe or would be. You will...I am an animal communicator and one of my beloved dogs, who had left his body some years ago, just now contacted me and the dogs and expressed his urgent wish to come back to us. Otherwise he would have waited for us on the other side. You can talk anytime to the souls of your dogs... no need to wait for tomorrow....And they are also still teaching you and watching over you....Just a little bit different than before....An old dog once told me and it really touched me : The last lesson he had for his human is : .......Love is eternal.....!

When my Old Rowley died I swore I would never have another dog, to painful when they die.
Had Rowley with me for 22 years (yeah, I know they are not supposed to live that long but he did),
longer than I had my wife and two kids, my son was 19 years old when Rowley went to the RAINBOW BRIDGE.
I went 5 years before I realized that life without a dog isn't living, IT'S JUST EXISTING; marking time.
Left work early on a Wednesday, I was the boss, it was one of the perks of the job.
Went to the local pound and started walking the lines of cells (yeah, it looked like a jail) just looking at all the inmates.
Came to one cell that had a sign "DO NOT TOUCH--VICIOUS DOG".
So being me, I stuck my hand in there and when all I got was a great big slobbery lick I told that old boy
YOUR COMING HOME WITH ME, took 2 days for the paperwork, chipping , etcetera before I loaded him into my truck and brought him home.
My wife had just been to the Mexican restaurant in town and had about a 2 pound chimichanga (they make them huge) in her hand, she asked
if it would be OK to give it to him and I told her go ahead, she still can't believe he slurped it out of her hand and swallowed
it with out a single chew, it still amazes her to this day.
The dog was covered in sh*t and pound crud so we gave him a good warm bath and he came out looking beautiful.
My son, about 8 years old at the time asked me what his name was and I told Josh he doesn't have a name yet.
We were in the house later that evening talking about the dog and discussing names for him, I had mentioned that the dog
had been chipped at the pound before I could take him home, and my son said "so he's lo-jacked like a car", I told
Josh "yes, he is", Josh said we should name him LO-JACK and that's how OLD JACK got his name.
Had OLD JACK 12 years from when I rescued him from the pound but he eventually went to the RAINBOW BRIDGE also.
I now have 2 boy and 2 girls in the house and love every minute of it, I think this time it will be me waiting for them to
cross over the BRIDGE; so we can be young again, healthy again, and roll and play and chase each other in the tall green grass.
LIVING WITHOUT A DOG ISN'T LIVING---IT'S JUST EXISTING!
They cut out your heart when they have to go, but they leave you so much of their own heart that it's always worth it.

And not only that, they actually lack the drive to betray you, their number one motivation is loyalty, even dogs who are treat badly but get the odd stroke will still side with the owner for the merest amount of affection and attention, it’s awful to witness, us humans are just a cancer upon the face of this beautiful earth.

Lord Byron wrote a famous eulogy for his beloved dog. George Vest wrote a famous closing statement about a dog and won a civil suit from the emotion it stirred in the jury. Even Jimmie Stewart talked with great affection about his pet retriever that had died on the Johnny Carson show. There's something about a dog that lifts our soul and warms our hearts.

@PedroHarrison-xg7ld Hello friend, I am doing great today, thank you for your message. When I watch a dog in the eyes and he looks back at me, something touches deep into my soul, they are wonderful. the documentary was awesome, I just wish it mentioned another talent of our 4 legged fury friends. In France (where I was born and raised), we have professionals who are training dogs to smell cancer cells, they can detect 1 cancer cell out of a trillion cells, no medical technology can do that, not even biopsies. Last time I checked, those canine diagnosis were 93% accurate, which is incredible, but not sufficient. By selecting the best dogs in this field for reproduction and improving the trainings, it can only get better. On top of that, those dogs can also point out precisely where in the body, the cancer cells are situated. Off course, by detecting early stage cancer, they allow doctor to use micro-chemotherapy or micro-surgery, with little or no side effects, with much more chances of success, for much cheaper. A win-win situation. So we can assume that tomorrow, instead of seeing a doctor when we hurt, we will consult a dog regularly, when feeling good. Besides that, if dog can smell cancer cells, what other diseases, bacterias, microbes, viruses can they detect?
      Have a good day Pedro

Best friend I ever had was my dog, Frost, when I was about 14. We would go for runs on my bike. I would give him about 18 inches of leash (the rest wrapped around my handlebars) and he would walk/trot and even full run and always keep his shoulder about 10 inches from the front of my bike wheel… Even when going from one side of the street to the other. And I wouldn't have even used a leash if he didn't have a habit of losing his mind whenever he saw a rabbit. He didn't care where he was or what we did, as long as we were together. That was 40 something years ago and I still miss him.

Beautiful work. An amazing tribute to an even more amazing companion. I grew up in the country and have had so many of them. Every soul since my childhood is etched in my memory. Away from the cities we can spend more time with our dogs than anyone else. They come to work, go to lunch, and even run errands with us. I've come to understand why the loss is so strong when their flame burns out. Undying loyalty and constant companionship. I'll give some advice to those that have their first dog as I've had more than 10. Often four at a time. Don't succumb to the feeling that your experience with your first dog was a once in a lifetime miracle. That is simply the nature of a dog. The quickest way to fill the emptiness you feel is to get another, perhaps two. Remember when training, they don't speak your language. Long winded explanations fall on deaf ears. They understand punishment and reward. Asking them not to pee on your rug will lead to a house that nobody wants to visit.

About three years ago I was involved in a death defying car accident. A crazed driver broadsided my car on the passenger
side at approximately 80 MPH. I was rushed to the nearest hospital that would be equipped to handle the seriousness of my injuries. This happened on a Saturday afternoon; we were on our way home from the dog park when, boom! I lost my dog, I nearly died and subsequently, I was left with painful injuries...so there I was, after a month in hospital, home "recuperating,"
no car, no dog, and man, was I miserable. I scared myself, contemplating suicide (not really, but the thought was there), when the phone rang. It was my friend, Tim, with news of a German Shepherd on the way to the Animal Shelter because the owner is moving and cannot take such a big dog along. Max was four years old, a perfect gentleman, and he was my miracle dog - he saved my life. Man's best friend? I should say so! 🐕‍🦺🥰

There are wonderful bonds between a pet and its owner and the loss to come will be hard to bear. But revel in the fact you had those and feel lucky and those memories will keep you warm.

Laika was a stray dog found in the streets of Moscow who was sent into orbit. There were many other dogs who preceded her who were also sent into orbit. So technically a dog was the first animal sent into out of space but we only remember Yuri Gagarin as the first. Lets we forget. During the Vietnam war dogs were sent to sleep with the soldiers because soldiers had to be hyper vigilant of the enemy creeping in but with a dog by their side they were able to sleep. Myself some of my best fond memories as a kid are with my dogs.

Too bad all dogs couldn't be rounded up, put on some huge rocket, and just sent away in space forever! We could finally be ride of the disease called dogs.

I’ve never had a dog, but I love seeing videos of youngsters opening that strange box Mummy or Daddy brought home. Something important is happening to make boys of 13 burst into tears so predictably. It’s possible that children play an unappreciated role in evolution.

Indeed a dog is not just a dog it's a "man's best friend" ~ Outstanding presentation of the evolution and of it's current need in our society. Well done.!.

One of the best things in my life has been my seven,so far,Labs. I miss the six that are gone every day. And I love Emma number seven every day. I really hope I see them all in heaven someday. Dogs are one of Gods best gifts to us.

What is so great about a creature that eats it's own shit? I wouldn't want anything to do with any disgusting man who owns dogs! You walk around with stinky grease, dried shit and urine, and disease all over you, and you still want to be called a human being! I just cannot fathom anyone saddling themselves down with one of these vermin sacks of shit! dogs are dangerous, scroungy, destructive, hideous, vile, miserable, disgusting, demented, sleazy, cowardly, soulless, treasonous, useless, filthy, disease, bacteria, grease, parasite, and stench ridden bags of crap! The world would be a much better place without dogs! My motto is "For each dog, one bullet." There's nothing in the world lower than a fkg dog!!

I was brought up with dogs and cats. They are both capable of warning us. 5 years ago we took in a rescued female cat. On multiple occassions now the cat has come and woken us by odd behavior to find persons in our garden. This cat is part of our family and protects us I can testify to that. As well as that she has kept Foxes off off the property. She took on a fox last winter and it was double her size. She even managed to ambush it. I have some amazing security videos of the cat on the boundary of the property stalking a Fox trying to come onto it.
