Some parents wonder why their kids fall behind in school. They sum it up to the kid being dumb or lazy but the reality is that a big part of the problem is the environment. A kid that's properly managed at home and treated decent at school, has a higher chance of excelling than the kid that's being terrorized. My grades were good when I had a balanced life compared to the survival times

Yeah. I worked for three years in a "hood" school and the classroom scene in the video is pretty accurate. The kids cutting up and messing around with each other while ignoring the teacher. Especially if the teacher is some young, stupid, newbie white person like I was. I worked hard for them kids, but that didn't stop them from trying to run me out of the building everyday for their own amusement.

yep, i started getting bullied in high school and i didn’t care about homework anymore, i didn’t care about college. i just wanted to feel happy and accepted and the skate kids who dropped out helped me feel that way. so i dropped out too. my mom always chalked it up to not being a good enough role model or strict enough but in reality it wasn’t any of that. it was what went on at school between me and my peers

Filipino here. Grew up in East Oakland. Went to one of the grimiest High School in the early 2000s. It was very rough during those days. And being one of the minorities in the hood was extra rough and extra tough. There were only about 10 Asians in my High School during that time. Nowadays Oakland is very different. Lots of Asians now.
But honestly, as long as you don't start no ish and just mind your biz, you'll be fine. Also surround yourself with the RIGHT people. And you'll be good.

Too bad you didn't go to MY high school across the bay.....LOTS of Filipinos**....But not quite enough to be considered "The Majority".... But still enough, that more than one made it as a cheerleader, and no white boy that I knew of had a problem with that, or even singled her out to be "a bid"🙄🤣🙄🤣
** So "many" in fact, that when I showed a "Good 'ol '(("PRETTY"'')) white boy", from Florida, my high school year book when I was in the Active Duty of the U S. Army, in the middle of PRETTY WHITE America.... (Ft. Riley, KS)....He asked me:
"Why did you have so many "OhZANKyous" in your school??!"
NOTE: "OhZANKyous"....Being HIS more ("milder??") term for ASIANS IN GENERAL--instead of terms like "Chinks", "Nips", "Zips", "Dinks", "Slant eyes'', "Boats", "Hondas" or "Toyotas"

Next up we need a "how to joan/roast" video. I want to low your take.
In my experience hanging with the hood kids, it's pretty easy. Say something about their 1) Clothes 2) Shoes 3) Hair 4) Unique feature (like maybe they have a big nose). Some of the braver (or stupider) kids would target the person's family, or a bad/embarrasing thing about their life situation, but this is a baaad idea because 9/10 out of ten that was an instant fist fight.

I got zoned for a hood high school in ninth grade, when we moved to a big city. First day I walked in the bathroom, there was a dice game, and my ass had to learn. I got wiped out, of course, because nothing good comes from dice games. But by the end of the first year, I was well on my way to “hood-adjacent.” It is a hell of a learning curve.
I got my ass jumped a few times, got whooped, got robbed, but also made the basketball team, made a lot of friends, and by the end of 10th grade, I was rarely being fucked with because I would throw hands at the slightest disrespect. It’s like any other part of society, you learn from your social cues. And then you adapt and survive, or you don’t and you die- metaphorically or otherwise.

Why do I keep watching this series... I am neither African nor American and I have never been to a hood in my life.
Edit: wtf... I am Indian and this is all so familiar-
    1. Gambling by some brats(its not common but it sure happens, some kids in my school used to bet and others played cards but not this much and it never ended in violence.)
    2. The guy asks for money and never gives it back... that is usually true for almost all friends/acquaintances, never give money and if you give never expect it to be back in your hands.
    3. If you don't say smthng back when you get roasted you become the "class punching bag". Everybody that comes up with a new joke/ abuse will test it on you. Teachers laugh at your roast, but only if no abuses are used. You can make suggestive jokes but explicit jokes are always a no go, because then you are going to get beaten by your teacher in front of everyone, then taken to the principal and if it was bad enough, the principal might slap you, call your parents and suspend you.
Its hard to roast someone in front of a teacher but if the teacher laughs at you, its gonna get way worse for you after they leave.

if i may ask, as a middle class white boy who will probably never step into the hood ever:
wouldnt trying to roast back in school eventually cause more problems? Like, i was always told as a kid that the best way to deal with bullying was to not show any reaction because A) thats what bullies want, and B) it could escalate the situation. See, if I were to hypothetically roast back in that situation, especially if I were the new kid, I wouldnt know whether or not the person i was roasting is the type of person to let that get in his feelings and get physical with me. And in that case, id rather just deal with roasting than get seriously injured in a fight.

I would rather be the BID, but
Personally, if another person puts their hands on me intentionally, blood will be on my hands, and it doesn't matter if a guy is twice the size as you. It's the agility that counts, and I hit really hard, and It's not because I want to.
I ignore a lot of people at school because I don't know them, and I'm just making it seem like they are talking to themselves, because, like you said, "what do you have to talk to a stranger about?"
