    Thanks for this video. Without this I didn't realize I could connect my computer to the CabControl. I've been using the CabControl for a couple of years now and love it. And now that I got my computer and JMRI connected through it is a huge bonus!

    Wonderful, you've helped an old DC'r understand and solve a problem, well done and thank you!

      Thanks, Jeff. It's been a challenge here lately, but I still have plans within plans...

    Nice info. Those ESU cab control is really neat

      The ESU systems are a bit pricey, but so far, I have not regretted getting the CabControl. I really like the throttle.

    Thank you, Brian for the great tip! Yes, it is working well. I just want to let you know that ECoSDetector 50094 is also working perfectly with CabControl and JMRI can see sensors US200:01 - :16. FYI Sensors are not detecting with track power off! Do not forget to turn track power on for ESU 50094 to report occupancy correctly. So, using setup like CabControlRaspberry Pi (or a PC/laptop) with JMRI running, you can automate shuttle train or other JMRI automations. You do not need ECoS, you can do it with CabControl. Still waiting for L.Net to be unlocked. The patent have already expired ;)

      Awesome! Glad it's working. I thought they would have the Lnet connection enabled by now...

    Thanks, it really makes sense and is easy! ( I blame you for the purchase of my ESU , love it!! :)

      Thanks! I love mine too, although honestly, I've had a couple of moments when I wished I had gotten an NCE. But I've worked through the rough spots so far...

    My ESU Cab Control is in a large scale battery car. The DCC "track" is just a pair of wires running to the decoder in the engine. This tip will let me reach the decoder from JMRI with out opening the battery car!

      @brianpagemodeltrains  Рік тому

      No sure what you mean by "battery car", but I'm glad it helped!

      On my large scale garden railroad the tracks are not electrified. Power to the locomotive and decoder come from a following car with battery. @@brianpagemodeltrains

    Great video. You mentioned the ESU ECoS in relation to your cab controllers. Do you also have the ECoS?

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  2 роки тому

      Hi Anthony - No, I have the ESU CabControl, but JMRI only shows the ECoS for a network connection, at least in my version of JMRI. But it works!

    Great tutorial.. ESU was in the running when i was choosing my DCC. Went with a used NCE instead. Side Question: i assume u were using OBS to record, how did you do the mouse drawlings?

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  2 роки тому

      Thanks Rick. Yes, I used OBS, and I have a little program by a Microsoft developer called Zoomit for annotations, it's at docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/zoomit. Zoomit works completely independent of other programs, so it does not have to be added as a source in OBS, and it will draw on anything on the computer.

    Hi
    Did everything what you said but still not working , no connection between ESU and laptop

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  Рік тому

      I'm sorry to hear that. There are so many differences in environment and computer equipment, I wouldn't know exactly how to troubleshoot that problem.

      No problem
      As you said many things can be wrong . After 4 days of trying, on two laptops, I bought ESU Lokprogrammer. Most of my decoders are ESU

    Nice job, hate it when UP shows up, so annoying. Question are you only running ESU decoders? I started out with them but have had to include other decoders. Does the ESU system play well with the other decoders and can you make all changes needed to the decoders through the system and JMRI? I ask because we know ESU, doesn’t like the other systems as much.

    • @brianpagemodeltrains
      @brianpagemodeltrains  2 роки тому

      Actually Steve, I have no ESU decoders. So far, I have Digitrax, TCS and Paragon 3 decoders. ESU actually works well with all of them, as does JMRI through the ESU CabControl. The one caveat is that with non-ESU decoders, you have to manually input them into the throttle, where with ESU decoders, you only have to set the locomotive on the track and it's automatically added.
