  • Welcome to the ep2 of my knitting podcast! Apologies for the lighting change for the acquisition part of the video😔. I included photos and video clips to show the actual color of the yarn. Hope that helps! Also, please forgive me with my grammar mistakes and mispronunciations -- I was too excited when talking and my brain isn't working properly after a camping trip lol.

    I would suggest you pull out the edging of your scarf and single crochet around the edge. You did a beautiful job and spent a lot of time and money to end up with such a tiny scarf!

    I always knit my heels on 9” circular both heel flap and gusset or wrap and turn style. You should definitely give it a go. Maybe it’s a little fiddle-y but worth it. You could also put the resting stitches on scrap yarn or barber cord but I’m too lazy! Your family is very lucky to be getting these gift knits ❤

    Your grandfather seems so sweet! He is definitely knit-worthy!
    I like to knit my socks two at a time on a 40” circular. I personally don’t mind sliding my stitches across the needles. I think the more you do it, the faster you get at it and it becomes automatic.
    I am knitting a colourwork sweater as I watch

    Your vest is lovely! I really like the yarn you had used. You had mentioned that store in San Carlos; that is on my list to check out. I go once in a while to Fillory Yarn in San Jose but I tend to buy online. The color work beanie you made for your BF is terrific. I like the neutral colors and it looks thick and warm. I loved that video you got while kayaking in a clear kayak; that is so cool. One tip I've learned over the years with floats is to make sure your right side fabric is flat when making a float to the left needle. Knitting on 9" circulars, I feel is good if you throw. If that works for you then you shouldn't have to change it. I use DPNs but bamboo ones; in the past I found using the metal ones I knit tighter. There is also knitting on two circulars but you may not like that way b/c yes, the stitches at the sides can be looser than the rest. Awww...so sweet that tidbit about your grandpa. I think many of us Knitters get horizontal gauge, but not row gauge. I'm more concerned about stitches per inch than row gauge because fit width wise is more important.

    Hi Jingyi. It was lovely to see your podcast again. I really enjoyed it. You certainly got lots of knitting done in a short time. I enjoyed how excited you were about your Enchanted yarn. I recently purchased some Sonder Yarn that I am also so very excited to use. I think I know what I am going to use it for but right now I am just enjoying squishing it 😂😂. It is nice how much your Grandfather loves the socks you knit him. My father in law also only sleeps in the socks I knit him so I am trying to get another pair knit for him for Christmas.

    I really enjoyed this episode, keep it up!! I am about 2/3 done with my Seasons Cardigan and I have a theory on how you could approach it. It's a raglan construction, so you could just try it on along the way and just stop increasing and split for sleeves once you think it is large enough, even if your gauge is off. If you're going to knit off gauge, I would think knitting on your size 9 needle gauge (14 st/32 rows) would be better than using size 7 needles since your row and stitch counts are off of the suggested gauge by a more similar ratio. 14 is 82% of 17, so you could multiply the directions by .82 to get an estimation of the stitch count you need for the size you want. 32 rows is 88% of 36, so your row count is off by a different ratio but it's not a huge difference. In my experience row count is less important especially with less fitted designs like these- you can always adjust the number of rows to the sleeves and body to make it longer or shorter. The one thing you want to make sure of is that since it's a ribbed pattern, wherever the original pattern tells you to cast on even or odd amounts to make sure your counts are also even or odd.
    I have used this approach to knit off gauge before and it has turned out just fine! If your gauge off by a large percentage, the finished product could look different but I have knitted in this 80% range before and it looked normal. There are some videos on youtube explaining it better if you are interested in trying!

      @knit_by_Jingyi  8 місяців тому

      Wow thank you so much for the suggestion! I’ve been knitting on my Seasons Cardigan using us8 for a while now (since the row gauge is the closest to the pattern’s). I did a similar calculation and used size xs to achieve the measurements of size s. I am done with the raglan increase and it’s looking good and fits me so far!!! Happy knitting and we will have matching Seasons Cardigans🥰

    I started knitting in the pandemic too! I like using wooden dpns for my socks, I've tried both bamboo from chiaogoo and the driftwood Lykke ones, and I like them both! I would caution with making socks with mondim yarn--mine felted after a few washes...if you want that effect then knit your sock a bit longer!

    Hello! Couple things that I hope will be helpful: be careful to not over block your bandana. If you think you need to remove the bind off, then you probably do. Can you add a few more rows to make it larger? Magic loop is safer in the car especially since you won’t worry about dropping a needle. When switching from one side to the other, tighten up the yarn after you place your needle in the second stitch of the new side. This will take care of any holes that might occur. Anything can become a project bag… and old purse, a makeup bag, a cloth shopping bag. Look to see what you might already have. With your fisherman’s rib, did you measure your swatch before and after blocking? How big did you make your swatch? A bigger swatch will give you a better gauge measurement. It will definitely stretch further when wet so it’s important to lay flat to dry without pinning and after it’s dry let it be for a few days to see what shape it goes back into. I often pick up my swatches and handle them during this time.
    Knitting is such a fun journey and we never stop learning new things! Good luck with all your projects.

    • @knit_by_Jingyi
      @knit_by_Jingyi  9 місяців тому +1

      Hello! Thank you soooo much for sending all these suggestions❤️!!
      I will probably add another stripe repeat to the bandana if the yarn is enough - planning to knit another one right now😆
      For sure I will try magic loop! I hope practice makes perfect!
      My half fisherman’s rib swatches were 10cm*5cm, so I feel they should give me a pretty good estimate for the stitch count. I didn’t see much change before and after blocking. Maybe the issue was because I measured them when they were still wet and I didn’t stretch them at all😂. Good to know that we need to wait for swatches to go back to its original shape before measuring! I will definitely block and measure again! Thank you so much🥰

    Knitty Natty blocks her sweaters as she goes to make sure her sweaters fit properly. She has a cord she slips her stitches on. Episode 171 the Citrine Lite sweater. Lots of love from the Pacific Northwest 🧡

      @@knit_by_Jingyi Be warned, The Citrine Lite might be tempting after watching her - I bought the pattern even though I am only knitting from stash this year. Haha!

      I am already tempted to purchase the pattern🤣! The shoulder & sleeve constructions look so fun!

      @@knit_by_Jingyi Right? There is a pattern with thicker yarn, but the Lite looks so pretty I think it will be worth the sore hands to make 😁

    Have you tried doing socks with 2 24inch needles? Emma Jaeger does that (Midsummer knits dream)
