Practice is the most important. Don't sing something you haven't practiced. I have about 6 "go to" songs that I sing if I'm at a new place. If I'm at my regular spot, I might sing one of these songs and then try some new songs I've been working on. That way the other "regulars" and staff don't get bored because you're singing the same 3 songs week after week. Great Ken Tamplin impression at about 7:15.
I don't sing at all in front of people. Only in the car, by myself. My wife put my name in the karaoke book last week. She had me sing creep by radiohead. Luckily I know that song well enough to not flub it, but now I'm looking on UA-cam to help me sing better. It's a nightmare to me, but i want to do better next time.
I'm Karaoke host. It's all about song choice and having fun with it. I see some singers taking themselves to seriously. When I have person say ( Let me sing next. I will really get this crowd going. ) 99 percent of time . They suck. This is good advice that you are giving, wish more my singers would do this . Karaoke is about having a fun time, meeting new people and Being a rockstar.
I host the karaoke program at a senior citizens activity center on Monday evenings and the big one on Friday's at noon. We have a good program, some good singers and some O.K. singers. Then there are one or two who are tone deaf. Some are good entertainers and the crowd really gets going, and we have a lot of fun. Most know what they want to sing, but some of them don't rehearse. The crowd always applauds even if the not so good singers. The good thing is that there is a lot of support for each other. I agree. It's all about song choice and having fun. Personally I don't sing a song I haven't practiced.
His recommendation to sing songs that are in your range, is good advice - it's important that, there may be a song that you don't even particularly like. But it's in your range, so just do it. People who like the song will like your performance, and then you'll start to like the song better.
You make a lot of sense here. I've recorded over 8,000 karaoke songs over the years. I will be practicing your advice from now on. Thanks for the tips.
1. pause the song on each sentence to practice singing that line, record yourself and compare, it may seem hard but recording one sentence and listening is 1000x more beneficial than singin over, hold your phone screen glass in front of your mouth to hear yourself bettter Always think of what you are going to sing in your mind before singing it
I wanna develope full contact karaoke. 40x40 square, two opponents. Judging based on amount of the song sung while avoiding tackles. Tackles stop the clock/ song for reset. etc... Any advice is welcome
blthetube1 Yes it's called a modulation for dramatic effect or lend a different feel to the song. When the key change occurs it can go into an area of your voice you struggle with, or even completely out of range. So choose songs with care and as they say, practice makes perfect. I know, it can be tricky. Unless you're born with perfect pitch, you need to train yourself to recognize and match pitch with accuracy. Singing off key to a well known song is a faux pas and is very obvious even to the non singer. Judges on reality TV tell singing contestants if they've been "pitchy".
Great advice. Thanks. Question Most Karaoke places do not have Voice Monitor Speakers AND they never adjust the microphone volume. So, you sing a song that should be low energy (such as The Cure's "Love Song") but end up yelling in order hear yourself. Any tips would be appreciated
@@angellovejoy203 little late on this.. But how does holding the mic FURTHER away help solve a problem of the mic being too quiet such that otherwise you have to yell? Genuine question. I'm thinking it might be something I'm ignorant of about how these types of microphones work.
Dear You are the best teacher because I have started my search on UA-cam for a vocal voice practice, I come across your channel, after watching you I realised how true is that I was practising in a wrong way Imminently I have subscribed to your channel after watching this video and started exploring your videos. To be honest with you, within couple of weeks I got my first vocal voice and then I realise just practising is not enough but definitely we need a trainer like you without a teacher no one will gain knowledge, you are a professional trainer and I like you for that with respect SIR. I will practice more and more based on your suggestions and I encourage your efforts and talent, I Thank You Sooooo much with lots of Love.
I would love to have Roger Love coach me. I have always wanted to sing and I do practice almost daily with karaoke songs on youtube. I have a head set and record the songs or I use smule (as you then have a music backing track).
Picking songs you like and feel deep in your soul and bones and in your entire being is the best. Cause you dont just need to know the song you need to like it feel it. Drink. Breath and be strong and louder when you sing as in dont hold back. Dare and love what you do then it goes way better than a song you dont love with all of your heart.
I feel like I'm getting worse, but maybe it's just because im actually getting better at singing it.. Like a dance move. Sometimes it feels like you're getting worse at it, but irl you're just doing the move right for the first time.

I've got a couple go to songs like House of the Rising Sun by The Animals or Midnight Rider I like to do a lot of Bad Company too I feel like I've been getting better everyone always says it sounds pretty good
I'm having trouble at my voice because when I sing without a microphone, I feel relaxed and I sound good but with microphone I feel tensed and my voice changes. Is it just because I got nervous?
I love singing Selena Quintanilla's music and I have practiced her music a lot plus memorize all the lyrics. The only issue is that most of the people in the audience don't understand a lick of Spanish. I just competed in a karaoke contest. And what the hell happened? I sure didn't win! There are tons of Selena fans and most of her music is in Spanish. I even took 4 years of Spanish and know how to pronounce the words. Makes me wonder if the stupid judges are jealous because they can't sing in Spanish. Just about everywhere I go people love hearing me sing Selena's music. Her music is what I do the best. However there are some other artists that I can sing well and that's Kiss and Tina Turner.
As I said in another post, I host the Karaoke program at a senior citizens center. Most of our singers are bi-lignual and some sing in Spanish and English. One or two who speak only English, but they do get a lot of support and they have no problem with anyone singing in Spanish. There is one individual who attempts to sing a song that is in English and Spanish, such as Freddy Fender songs. Today he sang one in all Spanish and the crowd really loved it. They always appreciate a person who doesn't speak Spanish but does his best to sing in Spanish. We do have a lot of fun. We are in Texas.
@RogerLoveVocals thank you! I greatly appreciate your encouragement! From where I'm from people are ignorant and stupid and don't appreciate someone singing in a different language. People like that try to extinguish my fire, passion, and energy because either they're jealous or wish they have what I have to bring across the stage!
@3vino1 Texas! Where at in Texas? Corpus Christi? I wish I had the money to travel to Texas and sing Selena's music! It would be a dream come true if I had the money to go there! I even have some outfits that I put together thats inspired by Selena!
Exactly! You were born with the finest instrument known to man. But like any instrument, it takes time and dedication to master. Great comment, thanks.
Dont drink a watered down pitcher of budweiser beer (* bar /tavern waters down their beer) if you plan to sibg a high pitch alto song like Journey songs. Rum and coke is not recommended either. You will ruin your chances of singing engelbert humperdink songs...but still shouldvbe able to sing marty robbins; haggard or jennings songs
You HAVE to know the timing of the song and you have to also test the highs. This last part really helps because some singers that you traditionally can't hit will have songs that you can nail because there are no highs. The best way I've found to verify this is in the car. Have your songs ready and sing in the car. You'll know if you can handle it right away.
