Thanks to @Karma and @John Beck's comments, if the generator is not working as expected, please double check that font "Wingdings" and "Windings 3" are installed in your system, the generator uses the font symbols as arrows from these fonts.

Just wanted to say the 2023 update for this is great. I was having trouble with using it for the first time, noticed you made a 2023 version so uninstalled and installed the new one and I got it working in like 30 seconds. I noticed you default it to white now instead of gradient, which is part of why I was confused before.

Good Afternoon - I was having trouble with the Arrow Lines generator. It appearted to install fine, along with the other free generators and templates. I was poking around in the interface and got to the comments tab. "Requires Wingdings and Wingdings 3" jumped out at me! I already had Wingdings on my Win 10 machine, so I downloaded and installed Wingdings 3 - sure enough, the basic arrow animation showed right up. Didn't even have to restart Resolve. Thank you so much for these highly useful and detailed tools. I will be buying you a cup of coffee soon!

This is amazing. Just bought it.
One minor thing would be nice if the drfx would include the macro for Fusion, so that we do not get all of the layers and have a way to keyframe the path to be drawn (speed is nice on the timeline, but in a fusion, it would be nice to have a value 0 to 1 that we can keyframe the way we want).
Anyway, those are small details. This is an amazing generator for Davinci Resolved. (also, it's awesome you did the tutorials on how to do that manually).
Wow, thank you for the kind words. That's a good idea, you can also open it in the Fusion page and keyframe anything you want.
@@EssentialVideoEditing Yes, I made a macro out of it, works like a charm. Deleted the animation speed/curve, and exposed the Polygon1 Line Length, and voila.
I just had to do a inner group somehow,. Otherwise Fusion was putting some of the sub nodes one level up.
Btw, I just started to use it in my videos, it works, but it is very slow to render somehow. I noticed Fusion could get very very slow to render in some Text situations. For example, if you have a text expression that points to an empty value, it somehow takes forever to render (10x). It might be be the exact case here, but could be something related to text.
Anyway, kind of unfortunate, because this component is very well thought out.
@@chenshisong Thanks, will try to give it a try. I ended up doing a custom macro using pure polygone path and simple arrow head type. Much more narrow, but works for my case. Still hitting a Fusion bug, where I need to reset the clip to make the arrow head start at the right place.

I have one Question? If I have a fairly long line with numerous points but I want the line to only be a certain length as it progresses along the path, can I set the length of the line that is viewable as it works it’s way along the path?? Thanks and look forward to your response.
Yes you can, If you are comfortable with Fusion composition, you can set the length of visible line, and animate the position so that the it moves from the beginning to the end. thank you for asking, I might add this to the template so that we can choose and control this option in the edit page directly.

Quick question, is it possible to create a drop shadow with the "soft glow" controls? I'd like a white arrow with a black shadow, but the I can't seem to isolate the glow to behind the arrow and maintain the crisp edges of the arrow. Instead it blurs the edges of the arrow into a grey color which makes it look like a "glow" instead of a "shadow".
If not thats fine, I can always duplicate the clip and have the lower one be the "shadow" but I just wanted to ask as that adds time to my workflow.

Thanks. You can simply apply the OpenFX Drop Shadow effect to the arrow line clip and adjust the settings to your liking.
I have trouble getting the generator to work in my timeline, unfortunately. Was really looking forward to it after the video demonstration. I'm still pretty new to Resolve so chances are it's something about my settings or setup. I've installed Wingdings 3 and had regular Wingsdings installed. When I drag the generator into the timeline, all I get is a black screen in the timeline preview. No arrows show up, even after messing with the inspector settings. The only default settings of Resolve that I've changed is the GPU Configuration. Other generators that I've downloaded do work. Any idea how to fix this?
edit: I've played around with it a bit and it appears to be a problem with the arrow start and end point. When I open the clip in Fusion and unpack the EssentialArrowLine node, the nodes BeginArrow_1 and _2 and EndArrow_1 and _2 are highlighted red. When I then mess around with the Font settings, magic happens and it works.
There were a few updates to the template after this video was posted, it now requires the Wingdings 2 and Wingdings 3 fonts for additional features, you can find the comments in the settings tab, thanks.

How do you track the line with a moving image? I have been trying to use the "essential media tracker". but it doesn't seem to be working. I create the line over my shot. Then I highlight the shot and the line and "Create new fusion clip". from there I add the essential media tracker, but doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Instead of Essential media tracker, did you try to track the line with tracker node in the fusion page?
Hi, this is awesome. If I use the arrow to show specific lengths in a graphic, an extra textfield next to the arrow would be nice. Can somebody help me with the expression in fusion that the position of the extra textfield is depend on the position of the arrow? f.e. when arrow is on the left and goes up, that the textfield is right. or when arrow is near to the bottom of the screen, that the text is above.
Great suggestion! It is possible to make an extra text node dynamic positioned based on the arrow's position.
Thank you so much! almost everything works perfectly, i just have one question, all the line types beside the solid color line appear to have the alpha inverted with the color. for example for the double lines option, it looks like a smaller line because the 2 lines appear as alpha, and the space between has color. Same for dots and everything else, is there a way to solve this issue?
That's strange, I just checked and didn't have that issue. What DR version are you using?

This is a super tool for what I do. A thousand thanks! I made a moving white arrow and path with certain characteristics. How can I save the arrow I made so that I can use it as a template for other map projects (where I would just modify its length and path points)?

Just downloaded+installed the ".drfx package" and this process runs smoothly without problems...
...I can also see the "Essential Arrow Line" in the right path on Edit Page: "Effects-> Generators-> Essential Generators-> Essential Arrow Line" along with previously downloaded / installed "Essential Shapes" (for which I thank you again because it's really great!😍)
I can also drag it to the timeline but I don't see any arrows ... it's all black and empty.
I tried to reinstall (overwriting) the ".dtfx file" but without success.
I also tried with the "version.settings" putting it in the right path (following the instructions) but always getting the same result: "black screen".
When opening the "ArrowGenerator" in the Fusion Page and ungrouping the "nodes in red" (like something is missing) the only oddity I noticed is a "square shape" symbol/character in the Expression of "BeginArrowDefinition" and "EndArrowDefinition" nodes.
Also ungrouping those two, the expression with that strange symbol / character I found it in the very first nodes:
"BeginArrow1" and "EndArrow2" and the Expression is as follows:
iif(Polygon1.BeginArrow==3,"", iif(Polygon1.BeginArrow==4,"", ""))
I am not an expert but I was wondering if that square symbol "in quotes" (after the numbers 3 and 4 that you can see above) is part of the equation or it appears only to me because I am missing the font?
Strange question I know, but it's a very similar "gliph" that you can see when you have a "missing font".
However, consider that in the Expression Field, the "square" is empty but by copying and pasting it here in the comments, other characters appear inside it but in Fusion, as I said, it appears to me as a completely empty square
I'm on Windows 10 with Davinci Resolve "V.18 beta 6" and ... I know, you were very clear in the video and in the description: "For Davinci Resolve 17" but it seems strange to me that in version 18b it doesn't work, because the other presets (.drfx/.settings) made for version 16 and 17 also work great on 18b.
I just wanted to understand if it is just my problem or if this has also happened to some other user...
Anyway...
I will wait for the update to the next beta version of Davinci Resolve hoping for an automatic fix ... sometimes it happens 🤞

Hello, I had the same problem and was able to solve it: Go to the Fusion Page. In the main group of the setting file you will find the two subgroups BeginArroDefinition and EndeArrowDefinition. In the BeginArrow_1 and EndArrow_1 nodes you see Wingdings selected as the font. Click on Wingdings to open the drop down menu. Then click again on the Wingdings font line below. Why that's so, I do not know. But that's how it worked for me. Then you have to resave the entire setting file with the MediaOut node.

Thank you for visiting! Did you try the method John mentioned in his comment? I'm using the Windings and Windings 3 for the Arrows in this Macro, these fonts are included in all Windows systems, it's a bit strange why it's not working.
@@EssentialVideoEditing Unfortunately I found another problem: No arrowhead is displayed with the method I described above - but a 4 in a circle. So far I haven't found a solution. On my Windows PC ist Wingdings Version 5.01 installed.

The problem is...
when I (re)select the Wingdings font from the drop down menu, the whole set of groups seems to settle down (no more "red nodes" due to the "Wingdings font" error) and the "Animation" starts as it should, but...
... this change actually corrects only the "Begin Arrow" (which by default is an Oval) and the "Center Line" which now "grows" in the right way as the Generator plays in the timeline.
Unfortunately the problem is not completely solved because the "End Arrow" instead of showing the arrowhead, is represented by the "number 4".
Thankfully after reading the boss's answer (Essential Video Editing) which mentioned the "Wingdings 3" font I searched for it, downloaded and installed it.
Now everything works perfectly without having to modify anything of the original pack!
So the final solution for me is:
Download and Install the "Wingdings 3" font and restart Davinci Resolve (this last step "restart" only if necessary)

Love the tool, sent little donation, however after using it more realised that it crashes Davinci from time to time and in general is a bit slow to render cash all the time. I'm using M1 Pro Max - normally no issues with performance on Davinci
Thanks for your support! This template is pretty complex and also uses Text+ nodes , it can be slow especially in 4k videos. I'm running DR18.1.4 on a Mac Studio M1 Max 32GB, it seems ok for me. It did crash a few times when working on 4k timelines.
@@EssentialVideoEditing If this tool could run realtime without the need to cash all the time it would be the best tool for davinci.
I especially love the ability to make a path and define the length of the arrow and have the arrow fly in at the path with a bounce animation at the end.
Another useful thing would be, in addition to glow, is to have an outline and drop shadow. Sometimes single color arrows are hard to see on different backgrounds.
And as a fun idea maybe the setting to make the tail narrower than the head.
And maybe multiple predefined settings to choose from for simple arrows that look already good without a need to tweek much - now the default is a long arrow with a circle at the start.
But having a small normal arrow which by default animates that you can easily drop down on videos would be so handy.

@@EssentialVideoEditing And just to add, can verify that performance issues comes from Text+ I tried to remove all Text+ nodes and now the line drawing solid line drawing runs realtime which is super cool, although you loose end start and end arrows and all the dash capabilities.
So yea maybe refactoring this tool to not use Text+ would be the way togo.

@@HardIsEasy Thanks for confirming, I did try to use other methods for end arrow symbols/shapes, but they don't always in sync with movements of the line, Text+ is the only way I found that can moves together with the line. Maybe it works now in the latest DR18 version, I will give it another try.
For outlines, you can use the outline effect(ua-cam.com/video/JGtlDMp5N9Y/v-deo.html).
For the default settings, you can customize the arrow line with your favourite settings and save to the power bin for future reuse.
Yes, it would be cool to have narrower tails, but it's very difficult for standard fusion compositions.

I'm a beginner on Resolve. For some reason when I apply the arrow, it tends to freeze my Resolve and I'm left having to restart the program. Anyone else having this issue?
You're welcome! Did you get the latest version of the Arrow Line effect? I had the similar issue and fixed it after I upgraded to DaVinci Resolve 18, it should be good now as you can see in one of my recent videos: ua-cam.com/video/YaGqkwi3UHo/v-deo.html, you can use the same link in the video to download the latest version of the arrow line effect, also make sure you have the font Wingdings 2 and 3 installed in your system.

Hi, Why did I successfully install it on my computer and it appeared in the davinci resolve 17 software, but when I threw it into the timeline, it didn't work, it just showed a black color. Do you have the fonts Wingdings 2 and Wingdings 3 installed? which version of DR you are using? It's working fine with my DR studio 18.6

Not sure what you are trying to achieve, but do you mean to save the PNG as part of your macro?
How to save it with a transparent background?
If you mean to export the final video with the transparent background, you can simply enable the "Export Alpha" option in the render settings.

very nice gererator.
But the startpoint (circle) and the endpoint (arrowhead) are not included in the line-animation. These 'Charakters' are always visibile.
I followed an other, much easier way to create an animated, curved arrow. Using MaskPaint for the line and Text for the arrowhead. I think this are the basic of your generator.
This basic way is without arrowhead animation, too. But there I can mark the text node and let the arrowhead appear and disappear by setting keyframes for size.
And, because I am only a DaVinci-Beginner, I have a proposal. Can you add the feature 'change size of the 'text'' to the settings of the generator?

How can I fix the 'Font Not Found' error?
Both Windows and Mac OS should have the fonts installed, Wingdings 2 and Wingdings 3. If you don't have them you can get them online.

That's strange. Make sure you have all the fonts installed, Wingdings, Wingdings 2, and Wingdings 3. Which DR version do you use? Also, did you get the latest update of the template? The old one was working well in DR17, but crazy lagging in DR18, so it was updated recently for DR18.
Hi all. I'd like to add that with DR-18, switching between Gradient and Solid-Color (or any other) does not work within the Generator properties while being in "Edit" mode. You'll need to switch to "Fusion" mode, open the template and edit the "Background1" node. Otherwhise Gradient dissolve is permanently on.
