I love this video. You can just tell how happy it makes this guy to talk about his monitor. It must be like a child to him. How could you not be proud to have tamed the most notoriously aggressive monitor in the world and raise it into a 6 foot monster. This dudes my hero lol.
Emilio Medina the Komodo dragon would have to be the most aggressive monitor lizard. It is the only living lizard that is capable of attacking prey larger than itself, that combined with its large size and being the apex predator in its natural habitat must give it more potential for aggressive behaviour compared to other monitors. It is also the only living lizard that would wilfully attack a human as prey under the right conditions. Having said this it is also probably the most intelligent of the living reptiles. Definitely the most awesome reptile alive today!
Gaetano Iuculano there are videos of zoo specimens who are quite friendly. I think they mean overall disposition Niles are hard to tame in general, even with exceptional amounts of interaction.
Emilio Medina Crocodile monitors and Niles are both pretty defensive/aggresive. Which is more aggresive would probably vary from individual to in individual. Ill admit that crocodile monitors are definately the more dangerous of the two species though. Croc monitors have massive interlocking teeth and they have a tendancy to jump. Niles ussually stop jumping and stop climbing stuff after they hit 4ft or so. BTW! My Nile on my channel is as big as this one now! Ill be posting another update later tonight.
Haha yeah that's exactly how my Nile is. Feel free to check him out on my channel. He's only a year and a half old but he's already 5ft. He's ridiculously large for his age but super friendly. I've got videos of him socializing with my cats too lol.
I have had a nile monitor for about a week now and she is lovely she is nippy and whips that tail like no other but it's part of the nature and look forward to seeing her grow also have a 1 year old Bosc monitor who is very tame and great to chill out with =)
Hey what show was that at. I vend at the new show called thumb reptile show over in lapeer michigan on the east side of the state. Are you at the grand rapids show.
I have a baby Nile monitor and he's pretty aggressive I'm wondering if when they get so big they get kinda lazy and don't "attack" as much? (considering u actually attempted to tame it)
@knglee3rd what method do u use for trimming claws? mine is real tame just likes to wander ff wen try but wat would u recomend for actually cutting the claws?
My Nile Monitor came this morning and he is very active but docile when held, very kind hasn't even tried to bite me once, I have a whole room for him.
Yeah mine was the exact same way as a baby. Very curious and active but never bit. He's now 3.5ft and still hasn't bitten anyone. If you pay enough attention to your Nile its possible that yours could stay tame also. Alot of people make the mistake of neglecting them once they are no longer a new pet anymore. I am starting to think that Niles might not actually get more aggressive with age. It might just be that people pay less and less attention to them as they age and become larger and more difficult to handle. Nearly my entire channel is dedicated to Nile monitors so feel free to check it out!
these are bigger then my Savannah monitor but i bet mine still weighs more. these nile monitors look thin. my savannah is built like a tank(just under 4ft) not sure on weight tho
I hate when people exaggerate their tittles to get more views. 8 foot? The guy was maybe 6 feet and the monitor wasn't even as long as him. Still a cool video, however.
hello, just quick question, wen holding him his claws dont seem to catch yr shirt or anything, do u clip them or round the ends or anything?? only asking cos mine walks over me if im sat down n scratches me up lol he has rocks and i even got a scratchin post but still his claws r razer sharp. any suggestions?
+king Reyes It's actually atleast 6ft. I've got a 5ft male Nile and this ones clearly much larger just by looking at the torso. Their tail is nearly 2/3rds of their total length, it just doesn't show it in the video.
@mystikbiskit1 haha that guy is not me but you will have to trim the claws...train him to get used to the process. and get some gloves and a long sweatshirt lol
My Nile is 6ft 3inches and literallt eats leather glove. I can't use gloves with him or he would just steal it and try to eat it. He eats the glove, digests the leather and shits out the thread a couple of days later. But yeah, the claws are freaking brutal. They are about as long as a black bear claw, but much sharper and much narrower and less bulky.
im almost 100% sure its a WATER monitor, not Nile monitor.the two look very identical, but are located in two very different parts of the world. the water monitors have their nostrils at the tip of their snout, while the nile monitors have their nostrils close by their eyes. the nile monitors are also brighter in color than the water monitors.
@insanitii101 yepp :) my friends dad has one (Michigan too) and he has a German Shepherd and a Great Dane and they get along, it loves to get rides ontop on the great dane, hes the boss xD his name is Tank!
Emilio Gallegos Garcia Yeah most eventually get 5-7ft unless it's growth has been stunted from improper care. Growth rates vary dramatically too. Some yearlings are only 2ft or less while others are already 5ft+.
6.5 feet fully extended....guys got balls to hold a Nile monitor. I've had many large monitors and no fucking way I'd hold someone else's Nile or croc monitor.....easy way to lose your nose
@theanaconda666 he is definitely not 8 feet, i mean it's obvious that the man holding him is not 9.5 feet tall lol so it's physically impossible for the monitor to be a few feet longer than the average person when his tail doesn't even touch the ground.
Ro Fu I agree 100% I've got a Nile about that size too and as sweet as he is i'd never let anyone hold him. For one id be afraid they'd get scratched and drop him, which might freak him out. Plus, if they aren't experienced with monitors they might do something stupid and get bitten. In my experience, Niles think everything that moves quickly is food, and people get twitchy when they are nervous
There is no way i would hold that huge monitor in my arms and let it close to my ears .Those are wild animals that can strike at any moment, specially when people are just handing them around like if they were toys..
right? I have an 8 month old 3.5ft male Nile and I carry him everywhere like this guy too. I call him my pet dinosaur when people ask what it is just as a joke.
Look I was co owner his name was linis he was awesome had him since baby and I mean baby.some of commenters are right u get what you put in. he was like a baby when we had get to rid of him he was 6ft and something. And he the owner had 2 at the time a nile and water monitor I never thought that I would have one in my care but now gimme some more seeing this I'm ready herpfever
Story of my life lol. I'm also raising a Nile and water monitor. I was always more of a snake guy until I got them. The brains and prey drive of monitors got me hooked though. Ironically my Nile is like my baby. I take him everywhere i go no joke.
@knglee3rd Oh i have been to the taylor show. Um are you asking me if i have ever been to the grand rapids show or the show i vended at. Well i will answer no i have not been to the grand rapids show. And the lapeer show i vend my rats there. It is a real cool show they are the only show in michigan that allows venomous snakes adnd basically any other animal to be sold there.
That male Nile monitor is probably only 5 to 5 and 1/2 ft definitely nowhere near a foot I have an 8 foot Asian water monitor and my boy dwarfs that Nile
I have to say this because these guys get a bad rap. There not for new pet owners I have 2 of them and there a lot like a dobbermen or a pittbull. You get what you put into them if you keep it in its cage pay no attention to it because it scares you your going to have a large monster on your hand. If yo get it use to you and your sent and being handled there not bad at all.
Just out of curiosity do you think all Niles could be "tamed"? I also own a tame Nile but mine was many generations captive bred. I've heard alot of mixed opinions on trying to tame farm bred babies or wild caught. I feel like some Niles might literally be too much for anyone to hope to tame. Whats your opinion on this? Also this isn't an attack at all I'm just looking for input from other nile owners.
That is a good point because my tam girl was captive bread and there hard to find really hard and my nile that i would say is aggressive i dont know about him. But yea tamed like a dog no i dont think you should ever buy one and think it will be like a dog but i do think you can tam them down to the point they can be touched and enjoyed.
+king Reyes They are even cheaper here at the shops in Arizona. I saw a guy almost buy one for his 10 year old son and I steered them away from it. I love the shops around here but I wish they'd be more responsible about who they sell these too. In all honestly I think niles should ONLY be available by special order. There's honestly no reason to ship them in bulk like they do.
dude its a nile, a nile has 7 rows of spots between its front and back legs and its touge is a dark blue purple or black, a water monitor is darker and doesnt have the round rows of spots do your research b4 you come on here saying that... your almost 100% WRONG
No that monitor is perfectly healthy. His torso is pressed against the guys chest which makes him look thicker. He's not even remotely overweight let alone obese. This is exactly how it should look at that length. My Niles much chunkier than this one.
I love this video. You can just tell how happy it makes this guy to talk about his monitor. It must be like a child to him. How could you not be proud to have tamed the most notoriously aggressive monitor in the world and raise it into a 6 foot monster. This dudes my hero lol.
Alex Crowder Never knew they were the most aggressive of all monitors I thought Crocodile monitord were worst!
Emilio Medina the Komodo dragon would have to be the most aggressive monitor lizard. Since there are only a handful of salvadorii owners in the U.S. the Nile is on the same level as Argus male or female.
The lizard looked uneasy when that other guy decided to hold him. Seems like he only wants daddy's touch.
Haha yeah that's exactly how my Nile is. Feel free to check him out on my channel. He's only a year and a half old but he's already 5ft. He's ridiculously large for his age but super friendly. I've got videos of him socializing with my cats too lol.
Pathetic pet..
dude looked so blazed
I have had a nile monitor for about a week now and she is lovely she is nippy and whips that tail like no other but it's part of the nature and look forward to seeing her grow also have a 1 year old Bosc monitor who is very tame and great to chill out with =)
Good luck with the little guy. They are truly alot of work but I think it's worth it.
This giy was a Legend, Not many can do what He Did
Dude I was at that expo and I got to see and handle that Nile monitor it was pretty sweet and I just got my ornate Nile monitor 2 days ago
Thats amazing how in the world did someone get a nile monitor to be that tame. My nile stella is temperamental as all get out.
So awesome I just got my baby. I can only hope to have him this tame
Tamed yet ?
Largest nile monitor ive ever seen, his enclosure must be enormous!
You should see my boy now! Hes finally bigger than this one. Hes 6ft 3inches and counting!
(considering u actually attempted to tame it)
Wow amazing looking nile,My nile loves to just climb on me just like this one :)
Mine needs to grow! Sure mine is only two months old but I cant wait until he is a big monitor. That one seems quite docile like mine.
@knglee3rd what method do u use for trimming claws? mine is real tame just likes to wander ff wen try but wat would u recomend for actually cutting the claws?
@WTZReptiles i want to go one day but i always forget when the next one will be, were you there? this show was in taylor MI south east
lol i love how he was all chill with the his owner and as soon as he give him to that other dude hes all "wtf this isnt my daddy"
This was in taylor? Down by that one thrift store? ( i dont remember what the place is called)
My Nile Monitor came this morning and he is very active but docile when held, very kind hasn't even tried to bite me once, I have a whole room for him.
hasn't bitten you yet lol dont get too comfortable just yet
Yeah mine was the exact same way as a baby. Very curious and active but never bit. He's now 3.5ft and still hasn't bitten anyone. If you pay enough attention to your Nile its possible that yours could stay tame also. Alot of people make the mistake of neglecting them once they are no longer a new pet anymore. This lizard is like "hey, who is this guy?"
@fartytobon thats cool! you have to make a vid of it with your camera phone, so you going to the next show? Its small but there's cool breeders there
You don't see to many tame Niles. Pretty cool.
@Dennis252010 yupmie is 3ft and does exactly the same thing. I try my best to hold and love it but its getting too hard...
I hope mine gets that tame and that big.! I can't wait.!
I hate when people exaggerate their tittles to get more views. 8 foot? The guy was maybe 6 feet and the monitor wasn't even as long as him. Still a cool video, however.

@knglee3rd Cool is this the show in taylor?
8ft monitor? so the guy holding him must be around 10-11ft tall
there tales curl up
I'm just saying and he say it's only 6 foot right now but then say it will get up too 8 foot I said no it won't
😂😂😂😂 is more like 4 to 5 feet.
lol I wanted to say something but you beat me to it.
+king Reyes It's actually atleast 6ft. I've got a 5ft male Nile and this ones clearly much larger just by looking at the torso. Their tail is nearly 2/3rds of their total length, it just doesn't show it in the video.
exactly what i was thinking, more around the 5-6ft range
@mystikbiskit1 haha that guy is not me but you will have to trim the claws...train him to get used to the process. and get some gloves and a long sweatshirt lol
My Nile is 6ft 3inches and literallt eats leather glove. I can't use gloves with him or he would just steal it and try to eat it. They are about as long as a black bear claw, but much sharper and much narrower and less bulky.
OMG, my favorite lizard!!
Gorgeous buddy you have there...
Its funny that you say that, because "Buddy" is my Niles Name haha.
@Inkki89 yeah just the people that tried to grab it lol which i never would cause i dont know how it was trained/tamed
@fable205 haha you should buy one if you think you can handle something that big
im almost 100% sure its a WATER monitor, not Nile monitor.the two look very identical, but are located in two very different parts of the world. the water monitors have their nostrils at the tip of their snout, while the nile monitors have their nostrils close by their eyes. the nile monitors are also brighter in color than the water monitors.
This is DEFINITELY a Nile.
@Deathnadz i dont have one but they are like dogs, you have to keep them interacting with other people and train them, thanks for the comment
what id do to have that
epic charmander wants a hug
@insanitii101 yepp :) my friends dad has one (Michigan too) and he has a German Shepherd and a Great Dane and they get along, it loves to get rides ontop on the great dane, hes the boss xD his name is Tank!
do all of them grow this size? or it depended of various factors like (diet, weather) idk
yes they all grow between 5 & 7 feet long
Emilio Gallegos Garcia Yeah most eventually get 5-7ft unless it's growth has been stunted from improper care. Growth rates vary dramatically too. Some yearlings are only 2ft or less while others are already 5ft+.
@reptilesrmine lol this is a old vid but good catch. i learned since then it was 6ft, just didnt change the title
There is a store called underground reptiles and they sell these for $15
@Ipimpallday lol thats not mine but it was very cool
were in michigan is this expo?
@knglee3rd yea, i usaually go once or twice a year
6.5 feet fully extended....guys got balls to hold a Nile monitor. I've had many large monitors and no fucking way I'd hold someone else's Nile or croc monitor.....easy way to lose your nose

The Niles 6ft. The guy is probably a little over 6ft tall and the Nile is draped over the shoulder and not perfectly straight.
That Nile monitor is not 8 feet long, 6 at the most
Awesome. No way would I let a stranger hold him though, for a few reasons.
Ro Fu I agree 100% I've got a Nile about that size too and as sweet as he is i'd never let anyone hold him. For one id be afraid they'd get scratched and drop him, which might freak him out. In my experience, Niles think everything that moves quickly is food, and people get twitchy when they are nervous
yeah I agree-that lizard is maybe 5 ft at the most
Its probably around 6ft. Ive got a 6ft 3 inch Male at home and hes probably roughly the same length as this one, just a little heavier bodied.
@blowgunking1994 yes, you ever been?
Wow! That guy is 8ft!
There is no way i would hold that huge monitor in my arms and let it close to my ears .Those are wild animals that can strike at any moment, specially when people are just handing them around like if they were toys..
.im getting a Nile moniter this august
00:47. “I wonder how ear tastes?”

fred flintstone with his dog, at the bedrock drive-in
right? I have an 8 month old 3.5ft male Nile and I carry him everywhere like this guy too. I call him my pet dinosaur when people ask what it is just as a joke.

That male Nile monitor is probably only 5 to 5 and 1/2 ft definitely nowhere near a foot I have an 8 foot Asian water monitor and my boy dwarfs that Nile
Makes my female Argus look like an ackie.

+Chris McDonald they have them for $35 US dollars on Craigslist =/
+king Reyes They are even cheaper here at the shops in Arizona. I saw a guy almost buy one for his 10 year old son and I steered them away from it. Thats awesome! Id love to meet him!

That thing is way to obese. I feel bad for that monitor.
More like well fed. Probably just ate.
Not obese.
No that monitor is perfectly healthy. His torso is pressed against the guys chest which makes him look thicker. He's not even remotely overweight let alone obese. This is exactly how it should look at that length. My Niles much chunkier than this one.
