I've seen videos of the instrument being made and it takes many hours of manual labor by a skilled person to get the notes just right. I wonder if a machine can be calibrated to form the metal in a similar way. Sort of like how car manufacturers make door panels. If it can be mass produced this will cut the price significantly.
Original handpan doesn’t exist anymore the original brand stopped producing those because they didn’t this to be famous (idk why) So thats why the original Handpan are that expensive.

Its labor-intensive, tedious, and nerve racking to accurately tune those notes to uptimal playability. Depending on the choice of steel some instruments could be affected by high temperatures which might further stretch the steel by modifying pitch and tonal value. Thus requiring re tuning by a skilled Hand Pan Tuner.
