Come'on it's not one reviewer who does everything. But I will say those who hire reviewers to cover annualised franchises like fifa, AC, and CoD should really rein them in with the high scores.
Ah. This comment. Not only does a different person review different games, CoD OBJECTIVELY tries to change up its formula with every single game. Why does CoD get circle jerked about being the same game every year rather than Battlefield? CoD adds jet packs, hero-based abilities, goes back to WW2, changes how health and weapons work, creates a CS:GO mode with buy menus and one life modes, and yet Battlefield and many other games are content with a fresh coat of paint over the same game every year or two. Do you seriously think the three new Tomb Raider games are wildly different or try to innovate at all? Please. Lara has been climbing on white rocky walls and falling through rivers in the same set-pieces, using the same crafting mechanics and taking out enemies in the same ways for three games now. You can’t stick your thumbs in your ears and cry “COD SUCKS!” whenever a game you were looking forward to starts to get bad reviews. Sometimes games suck, bud. Get over yourself.
Most of the complaints he has with this game can easily be attributed to Horizon Zero Dawn to the same degree or more. That game was egregious with bugs and stupid AI. Gets universal praise. That just means if a game is truly good and made with love, it will Rise above its flaws. (See what I did there?) Day one buy for me.
People complain about fetch quests, yet Zelda breath of the wild had some of the worst I’ve seen in an open world game, but gets a 10 with hardly any reviewer mentioning this.
Stephen Brown Zelda's fetch quest have always sucked. No one was praising Breath of the Wild for that, they praised it for everything else though. It was an exploration game that literally made you feel like an explorer. The Shrines in the game offered some of the best puzzles ever. The physics engine was top notch for an open world game. The traversal system can't be touched. Climb anything and go anywhere. There were numerous things people gave Breath of the Wild perfect scores for, side quest weren't mentioned because they have never been the strong suit of the series. Plus the game does everything else right and I played it for well over 300 hours and didn't see one glitch. You can't say that about 99.9 percent of the games that come out today. And to be honest, the Reviewer complained about more than fetch quests in this game. He complained about lack of dependability of some play mechanics. He complained about enemy NPC AI and how inconsistent line of sight detection was. He complained about the dated combat mechanic which hasn't evolved to counter updated enemy types. He complained about pacing and he complained about Lara being unlikable in this sequel as compared to the other games. All these things led to him giving the game a 6. He loved the tomb raiding aspects of the game but there was a lot more he didn't like than just fetch quests. At the end of the day, you have to form your own opinion. You like what you see then give it a go. If the things he dislikes about the game don't bother you as much then, by all means get the game.
MF_Dunn Reviews are opinion pieces they aren't fact or anything. This game is like the other two Tomb Raiders that game out before, there's not much difference here, so if you enjoyed those, you'll enjoy this one end of story. This guys 6 rating won't affect your enjoyment in anyway.
Wtf is the point of a review with spoilers? I mean the purpose of a review is to let people know whether or not a game is good. Why give away the plot and expect people to still play
Still going to buy it. They also gave mad max a 6 and it was an amazing game IN MY OPINION. Reviews are subjective and this score was just this man's opinion.
Gamespot probably forced this guy to give it a very low score because Gamespot wasn't chosen by Square Enix to be SOTTR's promotional partner lol it was IGN
While it's not directly about payment or no payment, videogame reviewers are clearly biased one way or another. They are not professional journalists and their views can be easily skewed by press kits, marketing materials, promotional events, or the lack of all that. Add to this a potentially tight deadline and they get frustrated with it all, completely changing their attitude towards a game. It's not corruption or buying review scores but all these clearly have an effect on how reviewers approach a given production. Marketing and hype (or the relative lack of it) skews their judgment just as much as average consumers'.
it looks like the reviewer is very prejudiced against tomb raider . he is pointing out issues which are present in every game even perfect 10 games.if i want to i can come up with a million issues with skyrim, metal gear 5 etc. Tomb raider games are not perfect but they are very enjoyable
First you complained that the gameplay feels old and there aren’t enough new gameplay features Then you complained that the new vision system gives you more information and makes things too easy Then you complained about the fact that you can put mud on yourself now which makes things a little easier Then you complained that the new fear darts (the third new feature mentioned within a couple minutes) don’t make enemies kill one another every time because sometimes they miss and that doesn’t make things easier Then I paused it, disliked and left this comment and now I’m going to close the video altogether because within a few minutes I can already tell what a horrible review this will be.
Is because it doesn't have a "Sony PS4 exclusive" label. So, no mandatory 9. Spiderman action is repetitive and the game is full of serious bugs and glitches... but the "PS4 exclusive" means ignore the flaws and immediate score of 9 in Gamespot
Tied for the lowest professional score he has ever given. Lol, ok buddy. Maybe its not as good as the others, who knows, but ill eat a shoe if its anything close to a 6.
In terms of game development? It kinda is, it's a big chunk of a console's cycle. GTA4 was great for its time, but it 5 had come out and played mostly the same, it would've been a huge disappointment. The games are certainly similar, but 5 improved on everything its predecessor did in terms of gameplay.
This game improved drastically in stealth and character building, I felt that we knew Lara and Jonah much more in this game. The new villain, Dominguez, is a decent and intriguing villain with a reasonable motive..what I really like is how they implemented music throughout the game, the drums and the tropical background music is amazing, the violin themed main song of tomb raider is very good. This game is an 8.5 or a possible 9 for me
You are aware that review copies usually don't have day one patches installed. Also in a 20 hr plus game you are bound to find times in which the AI is a bit shit.
@@GoingTheDist I'm not saying the reviewer is right but I highly doubt a day one patch is gonna overhaul an integral mechanic. That type of rework would likely take several months.
That's simply untrue. Just recently it was found that a simple misspelling in the code of Aliens Colonial Marines when corrected made the Aliens AI smarter.
On top of that you are not sure as to how old or unpatched the copy they are playing is. I agree it would be unwise to send a super outdated copy to reviewers but dumber things have happened in the World of gaming.
After playing the game, I'd say the game is like a watered down version of Far Cry with platforming and great puzzles/tombs. I think a 6 is definitely a solid score for it. Probably a 6.7 at most. Well, that's just my opinion.
Since the 90's, Tomb Raider sequels have always been criticized for being: "more of the same", but how is that a bad thing? I loved tomb raider 1, why would I not love more of that?
I don't think this review makes any sense. If the old mechanics were mostly the problem, how on earth did the 2015 release get a score of 9? With that logic, every game should have a lower score just because they used older mechanics LOL! Call of Duty, for instance lol!? I think video games are all about opinions and maybe he just got bored of the game or whatever, however, that doesn't mean it is a bad game! I am still going to buy the game, and I am 100% sure I will enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed the previous ones too.
Alot of the criticisms could be said about uncharted. Why such a low score? The controls were fine in the previous 2 titles. Never had troubles with it. Can't help but feel like the reviewer just wasn't that good?
I agree. I’ve played 3 Assassin’s Creed games, 2 Uncharted games and the Tomb Raider trilogy, and his complaints are oretty much present in the entire genre. Also 90% of it has been fixed by patches and updates by now anyway. No, the AI and parkour controls aren’t perfect, but they aren’t nearly as bad as he makes them out to be. It’s the same thing we’ve come to expect after playing Uncharted and Assassin’s Creed. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is pretty damn good-I agree with IGN’s 9/10 score but with a caveat-if you don’t like semi-open world, you won’t like any of the TR reboot games. A lot of people complain about that but lots of people like it too.
More than 50% of running time nagging about gameplay mechanics that in previous games of the series worked fine enough to give TR a 8.5/10 and RotTR a 9/10? Questionable.
"Grand improvements?" You can say the same for almost any yearly franchise (which TR isn't) and they never get a score this low. Unless the game really is that terrible, something is questionable here.
All of this. Side scrolling platformer games that play the same damn way they did in the 90's are applauded. Octopath Traveler playing the way turn based combat games have always done is beloved. But a game that has used the same gameplay mechanics for only 5 years gets this sort of score? Seems to me like the reviewer is biased.
Sara - The thing is every scrolling platformer has something unique in it. Good strategy game never gets old - see chess. TR 1 2 and 3 are basacally One game with 2 AddOn's. If you have one of the 3 games in your library you don't need any other.
@@xibeon can't say I agree with that cause RotOR added a lot of new features from the 2013 reboot that made them different enough without alienating their audience. I think this review is being too harsh when past releases were reviewed much more reasonably. He has his opinion and I have mine.
People complaining about the formula being too similar to the reboot and to Rise? As far as 3rd person action adventure games go, this rebooted series has been top notch. It’s only been 5 years since the first reboot...how much does a successful, critically acclaimed formula need to change at this point? They aren’t THAT old lol. Since the original series, TR has been rebooted and drastically changed several times already (and not always very successfully). I, for one, am glad that they have made several games with this formula and they have definitely improved upon each one visually and gameplay-wise. And honestly, regardless of whether people think it’s stale at this point, I have had more fun with Shadow than I did with the other 2. They listened to some of the criticism of the other games: made a less drab/boring location, increased the puzzles/tombs, decreased the repetitive guns blazing fire fights in favor of a more stealthy approach, more personable interactions, and actually gave Lara more of a personality and sense of humor, making her more well-rounded. I applaud the developers for continuing to improve upon what made the 2013 reboot successful in the first place. TLDR: This is an unfair score considering how well the others were received.
What happened to tomb raider? No gymnastic moves,no double desert eagles,no sexy outfits,no puzzle solving, only dives 3 ft.underwater, meaningless artifacts...Can we get the old Lara back before the PC police got a hold of her.
While I agree with most of this review's point on the combat/AI, it's worth pointing out that you hardly spend any time actually in it. It's even less frequent/sparser than it was in RoTR. So I wouldn't worry too much about that aspect (the lack of combat does, however, make the focus on crafting/skill unlocking for it a bit strange, and a weak incentive to explore).
ACG doesnt have the platform and gave a much better review. A portion of your issues seemed to stem from you being bad at the game and not the game being bad. I get this is your opinion, but damn there has to he a checks a balanced system and the things your nitpicky about exist in some many titles that people commonly ignore. 6/10 for a fantastic series, and solid improvements? Large review sites are only hurting themselves
@@darthmisogyny3828 sitting at 83 on Metacritic out of 34 reviews, by comparison, Spiderman is at 87. I'm not saying the game is perfect as I said I love ACGs reviews, I'm saying telling gamers this issue that is USER based is misleading. In fact by comparison the general issue 10 reviews I've checked said, the stealth is overpowering and makes the enemies too easy, which contradicts his review that within this dudes own contradiction. There is a reality that review companies lack integrity with IGN leading the pack. But we are reaching a time when Dreamcast Guy, Happy Console Gamer, ACG, Black Hokage Gaming are more credible than paid reviewers. I'm starting to compare the big sites to spoof site, Gaming With Character, where at least the laughs are intentional
Hahaha. I love this comment in every fucking review out there. Whenever IGN scores a game low that you’re anticipating you’ll be commenting “for once gamespot has the best review” or whoever else you can find to give your game a better score. Get over yourself.
'Half a decade old mechanics' is sadly what also caused the fall of the original Tomb Raider series in the late 90s. Tomb Raider Chronicles had the exact same mechanics as the original released 4 years prior. People don't learn from the past do they...
Stewart Howard 5 games versus 3 isn’t comparable. Further, the older series controls aged poorly because the gaming industry evolved well past them while Core Design kept using them to maintain annual release. A game maintaining its control scheme for a series isn’t unusual anymore because game controls have largely been worked out to be playable. The TR controls are phenomenal and Lara plays very well. Classic Lara moved like a tank.
besides, Tomb Raider Chronicles was a lazy follow up to The Last Revelation, a game that tried to reinvent the Tomb Raider formula, at the time people were too focused on "metal gear solid" to care though
Why is this game criticised for its controls, but Uncharted, having the exact same controls, is praised? And why are the fetch missions not criticised on Zelda, like they did for this game?
Aayush Sharma It’s called bias. TR has had an up-and-down history, so it’s okay to drag it for BS reasons and it tends to be reviewed more harshly than other franchises.
Did I just watch 13 minutes of someone bash a game. Let’s play the devils advocate and say all his points were spot on; I still see so much more positive in the game vs negative. We’ll see how “broken” it is when I buy it and “enjoy” the positive in it.
ok as a huge fan of the series, I actually agree with most of the points you're making about the platforming and game design, but you're nitpicking too damn hard on some things. I love stealth games and I played this on the Hard difficulty (One with the Jungle) for everything. It was great. No survival instincts mean that you have to pay attention to enemies, their patrols, objects in the environments, etc. The game won't highlight ANYTHING for you. It was also fun to play through the exploration + puzzle difficulties on Hard, because it's that much more rewarding to discover stuff yourself instead of just relying on a yellow/red highlight for the game to point it out for you. Overall I enjoyed this game a lot. It's lengthy, it's got some great action setpieces, I love the added emphasis on stealth and exploration, the lore bits scattered in the collectibles are excellent, the environments are so gorgeous and incredibly detailed, the challenge tombs and crypts are amazing, the three major hub areas are awesome and full of life, and finally, the story is actually decent and gets you to care about the characters more than the previous games ever did. Not sure how you ended with a 6/10 after that glowing review, I'd say it's an 8.5/10 for sure.
2 major things are wrong in his video the fact that they made the review full with spoilers and the fact that they only only gave it a FREAKING 6 when it deserves a 8-9
I just finished the game. This is a pretty spot on review. Don't let the dislikes food you. As someone who ABSOLUTELY LOVED the first two games, this one was certainly only half as good as them.
Greater focus on stealth, more challenging tombs, a supporting companion, a living city, greater depths into Lara's physiological issues - There's lot of improvements in this new game but the review focuses mainly on dumb enemy AI and Lara's floaty jumps, which have been problems in both previous games, but those got higher scores. How do these issues that we all know are there (and are extremely boring to listen to someone go on and on about) bring the game down now when they hadn't before?
My review :) ifya interested....This game is utterly gorgeous I can't gush enough, the textures, the lighting, the shadows, the particulates in the air, the rain that splatters the screen, the detail is insane, (were in the jungles of South America this time around as opposed to the frozen tundra of rise, but if you compare the greenery of say the geothermal valley to this game it blows the socks off of it hands down, beautiful improvements) it's all lush and utterly immersive, it's captivating and scintillating eye candy galore, some points I'll stop playing and just stare at the scenary like it's a painting, I zoomed in on the ground I was standing on with the bow or the photographer mode in menu examining the bizarre amount of detail in every rock and leaf expecting it to blur at that zoom but no, I was totally hooked in the first 15 minutes, and by that time I already gave this game a 10, I mean it's a 10 on visuals alone, but same great mechanics with a couple clever additions on top of it, it starts with a great Terrantino style entrance, with blazing action on the brink of disaster, cut away and a callback to two days earlier, and the rust of the time between games immediately dissolved and I was back on the bike again, the water in game is absorbing, you almost feel wet when your in it, clever use of controller vibration with her faster strokes to add to the immersion, a lot of the game has full 360 underwater sequences, and they look and feel great, searching for air pockets avoiding piranhas, collecting resources, it's all a really well fleshed out callback to the original, stellar sound effects to boot is the icing for the visual treat this is, the guns and bow have a real punch to them and alongside everything is a subtle haunting and immersive soundtrack, all this with tremendously deep and nuanced voice work too, the relationship between Lara and Jona feels really organic and genuine this time around, and it was smart to focus in on these 2, it feels believable, and the game play of Lara's childhood was utterly engrossing, really takes you back to suddenly become a kid again on your childhood swingset, head full of imagination and unburdened possibilities with the horizon always on the brink, very clever show of Lara's childhood background inclinations, very reminiscent of her manor you can play through in the original, speaking of which you can play as the original polygon model of her, I mean it looks ridiculous, but a nice wink from the developers paying homage to the source material, but they gave Lara a blue top this time around more reminiscent of her in the origin days, a clever callback of days past nostalgia, really reminded me of the old games, especially with the jungle environment and jaguars, the jaguar scenes were utterly jaw dropping, totally flustered by those sequences, great throwback and wink to the fans and the new features were super cool too, including repelling and swinging, where you have to gauge the distance to jump and appropriate amount of slack on the rope, and the mountain climbing looks and feels naturally great, also you got mud mechanics, where Lara slathers herself in realistic looking mud, predator style, and when you hear her unsheathe her blade when an enemy is in kill distance, covered in mud eyes popping out behind the vines.... dude, so bad ass, and hence the greater focus on stealth, and the mud in game looks freakin amazing trudging through deep patches of it, seriously it's all these little details that make this enthralling and dare I say a masterpiece, and there is an upgrade in laras skill sets where you can for a sizable window of time warp to bullet time while aiming!!!! very helpful and slick in those super hairy situations, to aquire this there are focus plants in the wild or at merchants to purchase (*helpful sidenote - it has a bullet time meter which length can be upgraded in skill sets and once initiated the meter runs down on the use of the focus in general and a separate meter while aiming, once the general plant wears off there's a visual on screen cue, or in menu a color like clock meter that runs down if you want to check before, and wherever you left off with it while aiming and release you have to wait for it to refill full to use again or once it runs out or you get hit it also stops it and you can either let refill before you use it again,*** or (and here's the trick) immediately use another focus plant to refill the meter, keeping it slomo without skipping a beat, you'll thank me later... maybe, I had to figure that out on my own, you gotta be quick on your feet for the slomo, and usage is a little tricky, but no problem once you understand it, and my god blowing back those clamoring cave creatures slomo in those eye catching caverns with a shotgun,....just a blast,(pun not intended, but I'll go with it) Get your Max Payne on!!, Awesome, also to boot the cover mechanics along with the combat look and feel fluidly intuitive...I mean and there's so much to do on top of all this, and I know this is long winded but I have to refute the unconscionably negative reviewers out there, so I'll just run through and elaborate on some of the core gameplay elements and content on top of it for those perhaps unfamiliar, a lot of things have been carried over from the last installments, but it feels more fluid and enhanced, it's all very well done, and it really encourages free exploration, it's as close to open world as you can get, I mean you got the story campaign, which is well executed for the source material and region, but more subtle and in the background where the game play and environments are the real stars here, I've never been a fan of the stories of tomb raider but having it more subtle I preferred as its more about the journey of unfolding clues and archeological riddles rather than the destination, but between the main story and it's adrenaline inducing sequences, (those cave creatures and there echoing wails in the caves are spine tingling), to just exploring the jaw droppingly beautiful landscapes, to collecting resources or hunting wild animals, which you can use at the scattered base camps to upgrade weaponry and outfits (which are really great looking for the south American region and have their own benifits like allowing access to certain restricted temples or ability to carry more resources or prolong bullet time or move quieter, whatever your playing preference or visual style... .all well done, relevant and engrossing), or collecting hidden treasues, arifacts, architecture (which your still able to view and analyze 360 and by doing so uncover deeper secrets or realities behind them occsssionally which reveal the history and culture of the regions bringing a feeling of discovery and appreciation more to life), believable journals, fallen travelers backpacks which reveal map secrets and hidden treasures, analyzing religious structures, which sharpen your deciphering of monoliths which reveal secrets within a specific radius on the map with an associated environmental riddle that you have to seek out, or completing challege tasks like seeking out hidden treasure chests in piranha infested underwater area etc. etc. both of which garner more xp points that contribute to expanding Lara's skill sets at the base camps which are all helpful and gameplay enhancing thus even more incentivising, i mean all these great collaborating gameplay elements along with discovering and raiding tombs and crypts, filled with ancient puzzles of physics and death and wits which are gorgeous and practically on there own worth the buy, to perusing the vast and alive villages, specifically Paititi, it all feels credible and well fleshed out with tons of characters to talk to which look and sound great as well, and from some of them you can venture out on engrossing and fun sidemissions that they inquire of you that offer their own rewards in the the form of information or access to other merchants in town where you can buy items and trade resources, that upgrade equipment that give access to previously inaccessible tombs or areas, which absolutely encourages great replayability and exploration..... ugh, let me take a breath, it's just soo rich and we'll done, the best visuals in a game to date I'd say along with all these tremendously well fleshed out characters and intertwining gameplay elements..... this is the truest yet to the originals and this game is a must have, and I'm really baffled by the negative reviews that almost made me question my purchase, and that was being a fan of the series,.... hands down glorious game and just a well crafted blast, Peace out, and happy hunting ; )
25th October, 1996 - I can still remember the jaw-dropping first moments of the original Tomb Raider on my SEGA Saturn. 25 years later, both game core & chatacter never gets old & everytime they reboot the series it only gets better. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an amazing adventure & a great final chapter on this gen series reboot. Played it both on PS4 & STADIA & recommend the STADIA version w/ a Chromecast Ultra 4K.
Damage direction is communicated by the dark blood splatter at the edge of the screen... We can even see the mark moving around the corner while he is talking crap about it. Some cons seem fair but the reviewer is nit picky as hell, it gives the impression he was mad he had to review that game.
Sooo, when I saw this GameSpot review I was like yeah sure, nice try, GameSpot must be high or something. I just finished the game, and I have to say, it was a disappointment in almost every way, and this review is quite spot on. (along with Angry Joe) How could such a great series end up like this I don't know,
I'd say somewhere in the 7's is fair. IGN's 9 is way to generous, but 6 seems a little harsh considering the solid puzzles and amazing environments. I'm surprised to see complaints about the jumping being too hard. If anything this game is crazy forgiving with the jumping, especially compared to the old ps1 era games.
I respect this review, it matches the metacritic score. a lot of them are in thlow 70's and 60's.. even a 40 in there. people are just throwing their toys out of the pram cause they're not seeing what they wanted to see, probably were dumb enough to lock themselves in to a digital preorder and now have no choice but to delude themselves in to thinking this is a great game and gamespot are wrong
I’m currently almost trough Rise of the Tomb Raider in preparation for this and do the game mechanics actually feel any different? I enjoy Rise so much that all I’m looking for is more of the same in Shadow...am I in for disappointment?
Nope. If you liked Rise, you’ll like Shadow. The combat is a bit different, though. The controls aren’t different, but it really rewards and encourages stealth.
I loved the game but I agree with the review. The game has brilliant parts and it's doing so many things right. For these parts it definitely deserves higher score and people will love the experience. On the other hand the combat mechanics, platforming, conversation system, story telling needs to be polished or reworked.
To anyone upset at this review -- you make me laugh. Even ACG, who liked the game overall, had issues with it, calling it a "tentative buy" as opposed to a "must buy." It's not a game everyone will like, and GameSpot's review clearly shows that -- whether you agree with it or not -- so please, children, do grow up.
Very detailed review, yet folks upset over a out of context cutscene 🤦🏾♂️. He pointed out combat flaws, sketch animations, repetitive side quests and etc; while also highlighting the strengths of the game
2:12 - "Tool Tips" I'm not sure about anyone else but, I tend to turn off the Highlights/Puzzle Hints in the recent Tomb Raider games. The Stealth Gameplay can actually be difficult if you don't have Batman Vision.
IGN gave it a 9 and Easy Allies said "Shadow improves upon just about every aspect of the previous titles and it's Lara finest adventure yet." Damn, that 6 was harsh af
Imma be honest...I'm about a good 30+ mins and I'm very impressed w/ it so far. I'm bout to come across my first tomb and it sounds like shit is about to pop real quick lol
I thought this was a really good review because nobody usually brings up how stealth isnt realistic regarding immersion stuff like people not recognizing you killing their friend ten feet away, and not hearing your footsteps if you sneak up on them through water when they should be hearing splashes, stuff like that
"Starting to feel half a decade old" Did you want them to reboot the series again already? Most of us just wanted it to improve on what it's been doing, which it has.
i dont care about these reviews. i played many games when these reviewers gave them under 7 rating..... but this time its feel like same old old game... nothing new.
After hearing our verdict, will you be picking up Shadow of the Tomb Raider?
Yes! because your review is bs!!!
Fo' sho'

Yes of course. It's not as bad as you guys made it out to be.

Please. Lara has been climbing on white rocky walls and falling through rivers in the same set-pieces, using the same crafting mechanics and taking out enemies in the same ways for three games now.

better than the previous mediocre game doesnt make it a great game now

Totally agree

Stephen Brown because it’s Nintendo. They review off on nostalgia when it comes to ninetendo.
The Nintendo bias is real in the videogames industry.

If the things he dislikes about the game don't bother you as much then, by all means get the game.
same thing with Witcher 3
Still buying it. You think I 100% the last two games for nothing? And this looks just as amazing as the last two. Different strokes I guess.
Most of the reviews have been great tbh.
Probably go meh after finishing this game just like I did with Rise. The first game was excellent though. Shame they couldn't keep up the momentum.
Existentially, yes. You did 100% the last two games for nothing.
Perfect Comment. You win.
I'm playing Mad Max at the moment and its an awesome game. Look forward to picking this up too
Mad Max was real fun.
watch ign , simple
I agree, Mad Max was fun and I think it's a very underrated game.
true.
a review wit spoilers WTF???
Looks like someone hasn't been paid.
Gamespot probably forced this guy to give it a very low score because Gamespot wasn't chosen by Square Enix to be SOTTR's promotional partner lol it was IGN
Or he just have different opinion :/

While it's not directly about payment or no payment, videogame reviewers are clearly biased one way or another. They are not professional journalists and their views can be easily skewed by press kits, marketing materials, promotional events, or the lack of all that. Add to this a potentially tight deadline and they get frustrated with it all, completely changing their attitude towards a game. It's not corruption or buying review scores but all these clearly have an effect on how reviewers approach a given production. Marketing and hype (or the relative lack of it) skews their judgment just as much as average consumers'.
I agree this is honest review and not been paid like IGN
it looks like the reviewer is very prejudiced against tomb raider . he is pointing out issues which are present in every game even perfect 10 games.if i want to i can come up with a million issues with skyrim, metal gear 5 etc. Tomb raider games are not perfect but they are very enjoyable
Those things he mentioned got in the way of enjoying the game fully. I really hope they address those problems after taking a break from the series
First you complained that the gameplay feels old and there aren’t enough new gameplay features
Then you complained that the new vision system gives you more information and makes things too easy
Then you complained about the fact that you can put mud on yourself now which makes things a little easier
Then you complained that the new fear darts (the third new feature mentioned within a couple minutes) don’t make enemies kill one another every time because sometimes they miss and that doesn’t make things easier
Then I paused it, disliked and left this comment and now I’m going to close the video altogether because within a few minutes I can already tell what a horrible review this will be.
To the fear darts, that's more missing point blank with a widespread fire weapon
Wow IGN gave it a 9/10 and Gamespot a 6/10. Big difference.

Hay gramph! Get moving! Gen Z ain't got time for old crap
He means things haven’t changed or been improved upon.
Kinda is for games, actually, if things don't improve a bit.
I played a bit in Gamescom. It was boring af.
Sorry I can't take that score serious.
Dont, nobody gives a fuck
You should... This game seems to be as bad as rise of the tomb raider..
you guys play it ?????? it didn't came out yet ???? what about waiting before you bash it
Its more like a 7/10. Ive played it and the gameplay is not as good as the first two.
Posted before the game even comes out? Come on dude. If you are going to be critical, be critical of something he said. Not the score
This game is WAY better than Rise. Better design, story, Lara, tombs, platforming, hubs, etc. Theres nothing wrong with a game being conservative.

6/10 too much jungle
Ladies and gents, Gamespot
Too much mediocrity I give it a 6/10 as well
This game improved drastically in stealth and character building, I felt that we knew Lara and Jonah much more in this game. The new villain, Dominguez, is a decent and intriguing villain with a reasonable motive..what I really like is how they implemented music throughout the game, the drums and the tropical background music is amazing, the violin themed main song of tomb raider is very good. This game is an 8.5 or a possible 9 for me
I love how the reviewer spent 5 mins complaining about how he wasn't playing Splinter Cell
The developers implemented a stealth system, but it's buggy and inconsistent. Why shouldn't the reviewer critisize that?
This game is definitely not a 6.
ye it's more like 5/10
I say 5-6/10
Much better. Awesome game
After playing the game, I'd say the game is like a watered down version of Far Cry with platforming and great puzzles/tombs. I think a 6 is definitely a solid score for it. Probably a 6.7 at most. Well, that's just my opinion.
its more like an 8. It has flaws but I love the new lara
Since the 90's, Tomb Raider sequels have always been criticized for being: "more of the same", but how is that a bad thing?
I loved tomb raider 1, why would I not love more of that?
Because the games always had much room for improvement
6/10 they didn’t pay us 🤷♂️
6/10 Is Legitimate
9/10 from IGN is fabricated BS
The game is not great or good. It's just Ok.

Like what? Uncharted shits on tomb raider like a farm of cows on 1 square foot of grass
Please Gamespot just have Peter Brown review every game. He is your only truely capable critic.
LOL that’s bullshit. Peter gave the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy a 6 just because he couldn’t beat them 😂
truly capable lol
kev d he’s a liberal joke, no thanks.
Alex Townley. Crash takes the worst thing about 3D platformers, depth perception, and makes it the entire game. 6 is a fair score.

All 3 games look the same - the first 2 played the same as well, didn't noticed much difference. There is nothig special about this third game.

@Video game person ha prob took my monies and gave me the pounding

This guy annoys me. When was climbing an issue? This guy thinks he knows what he talks about.
He knows exactly what he talks about. The jumping and climbing mechanics feel very dated and robotic.
Need to add the save crystals
You clearly haven't played the new game.
To who are you replying too?
6/10 "didn't get paid enough."
*Describes the game as great, albeit with a few minor issues*

ACG doesnt have the platform and gave a much better review. A portion of your issues seemed to stem from you being bad at the game and not the game being bad. I get this is your opinion, but damn there has to he a checks a balanced system and the things your nitpicky about exist in some many titles that people commonly ignore. 6/10 for a fantastic series, and solid improvements? In fact by comparison the general issue 10 reviews I've checked said, the stealth is overpowering and makes the enemies too easy, which contradicts his review that within this dudes own contradiction. Hahaha. I love this comment in every fucking review out there. Whenever IGN scores a game low that you’re anticipating you’ll be commenting “for once gamespot has the best review” or whoever else you can find to give your game a better score. Get over yourself.
I think Easy Allies have the best so far.
This was the best tomb raider game I've played so far. Gamespot got it wrong again.
I liked Chronicles. It was like a dlc.Not a sequal to ast Revelation.
Because uncharted doesn't have the same controls or gameplay...it absolutely wrecks Tomb raider
John John It’s gameplay and controls are legit worse.
Screw you GameSpot this game look more dope than the previous ones and giving it a 6, i'll the judge when i play it

ok as a huge fan of the series, I actually agree with most of the points you're making about the platforming and game design, but you're nitpicking too damn hard on some things.
Not sure how you ended with a 6/10 after that glowing review, I'd say it's an 8.5/10 for sure.
they shouldn't let incompetents review games

Poor work Gamespot. From the spoiler at 2 seconds to the terrible score. You guys making IGN look really good.....
Why is 60% of this review on combat which was like 30% of the game?
Why so many dislikes isn't it a copy n paste game- the same as the previous?
Stealth is always the same in all games, if the enemies would react as they should, you would never get a single stealth kill without alerting anyone.
Ričardas Marozas the ai is brain dead don't tolerate this kind of low quality game
Can't wait. I pre ordered the croft edition.
How do these issues that we all know are there (and are extremely boring to listen to someone go on and on about) bring the game down now when they hadn't before?
good to know!

You do know something is wrong with the review, when likes are 2k, and dislike are 4k
Great review up to the point where the reviewer not empathising with Lara misses the whole point of "SHADOW OF THE TOMB RAIDER"
I respect this review, it matches the metacritic score. a lot of them are in thlow 70's and 60's.. even a 40 in there. people are just throwing their toys out of the pram cause they're not seeing what they wanted to see, probably were dumb enough to lock themselves in to a digital preorder and now have no choice but to delude themselves in to thinking this is a great game and gamespot are wrong
you take the telegraph review as an example?(the 4/10 guys) Those people have no clue about gaming in general, which you should know already.
SaithMasu12 and YOU do?!
Are your parents brother and sister? That is the only thing to justify your stupidity
Bloo95 I loved rise but I hate this one. I was bored out of my mind with it. That’s just my opinion tho.
I loved the game but I agree with the review. The game has brilliant parts and it's doing so many things right. For these parts it definitely deserves higher score and people will love the experience. On the other hand the combat mechanics, platforming, conversation system, story telling needs to be polished or reworked.
2020, this guy's review is on point. Man this game was disappointing.
Seriously whoever made this review apparently hates this franchise and doesn't give an honest review , everyone else gave a much higher score
The word "Shit" comes right in before they show the score at 13:17 perfectly matched. Thanks for the heads up. Skipping this shit.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is way better then a 6 more like a 9.
The Best Tomb Raider in the History 👊👊👊
Me: Here, have a snickers 🍫
Gamespot: Why?
Me: Cause you're acting like IGN again.
2:12 - "Tool Tips"
I'm not sure about anyone else but, I tend to turn off the Highlights/Puzzle Hints in the recent Tomb Raider games. The Stealth Gameplay can actually be difficult if you don't have Batman Vision.
6/10?! You are crazier than Trevor Phillips!!!
I hope people disliked because of the spoilers, not because of the 6/10.
Lol, Guys, check out IGN'S review. No drama, no nothing. Just a simple review. Didn't even bother watching this after reading the comment section.
coz it got paid
6 is a bit harsh for such a fantastic series!!
IGN gave it a 9 and Easy Allies said "Shadow improves upon just about every aspect of the previous titles and it's Lara finest adventure yet."
Damn, that 6 was harsh af
Imma be honest...I'm about a good 30+ mins and I'm very impressed w/ it so far. I'm bout to come across my first tomb and it sounds like shit is about to pop real quick lol
I thought this was a really good review because nobody usually brings up how stealth isnt realistic regarding immersion stuff like people not recognizing you killing their friend ten feet away, and not hearing your footsteps if you sneak up on them through water when they should be hearing splashes, stuff like that
Kudos to the reviewer.
"Starting to feel half a decade old"
Did you want them to reboot the series again already?
Most of us just wanted it to improve on what it's been doing, which it has.
Honestly im not hyped for this game.. even i played both previous titles..
Same but that's exactly what I felt with previous two and I loved those games so it's definitely a buy from me
Dont trust this reviewer go and look at IGN it got 9.0
@@TzsNatureWithJameelFar but its sitting at a 77...
i dont care about these reviews. i played many games when these reviewers gave them under 7 rating..... but this time its feel like same old old game... nothing new.
Jameel Far IGN? Really? I mean you can like a game, but that also means you can dislike it, like this reviewer.
