I remember seeing an interview of Robert Patterson talking about how he read a part of the first Twilight novel and he explained how he thought the entire novel was just a weird girl's fantasy of her own made up characters. I couldn't stop laughing how he essentially called Stephanie a creep for many of the romantic scenes in the book.

    • @leahscontemporary
      @leahscontemporary Рік тому +2

I don't think Robert should be giving his opinion on anything. Back then he was broke living on his managers couch lucky enough that Stephanie even gave him a chance to make money off her series when he wasn't her 3rd or even 4th pick to play edward. Ungrateful and entitled for someone about to quit acting and move back in with mommy. He was a total miscast. And everyday I mourn Book Edward and the other humble up and coming actors who could've actually made a career out of this series gaining a lifetime of wealth from playing a character loved by so many

Fun facts: Emily Browning was actually the first choice for Bella before Stewart but she turned it down as she was taking a break from filming. Also Hardwick did actually try to push for a more diverse cast but Meyer road-blocked it hard since she envisioned everyone as white.

I love all things vampires, but Twilight was such a disappointment. I do have a possible explanation for why the kids at Bella's new school treat her like she's so special. I went to a very small high school, maybe 400 kids max, so on the rare occasion that a new student was in school, which meant a new family moved to our island town, that new student immediately became popular. Everyone wanted to know about the New Kid, and sometimes they'd click w/ the popular kids and remain popular; other times the new kid would not fit in w/ the popular crowd and would slowly mix in w/ kids whom they had common interests w/. I feel like this is what Bella is going through, and once the kids realize she's such a bland person, they start distancing themselves from her. In book 2 she has to try and reach out to them in order to maintain a normal life, they don't wanna hang w/ her so much, but she hasn't made any friends other than her weirdo BF and his family.

I think the owl would work better if it was turned toward Bella. Then it could symbolize Edward's predatory nature (I think Bella's associated with the deer in the movie's opening) instead of looking like angel wings. It wouldn't be subtle, but it'd be less cliche imo.

I wonder if I can still find those videos on UA-cam? Girls were screaming and crying into the cameras asking Kristen Stewart how could she do that to Robert Pattison she ruined the Bella+Edwards ship in real life and yada yada yada. I could’ve sworn I remember one video where the girl in the video crying her eyes out actually called the actors by the characters names. That right there shows the disconnect some twihards had.

Stephenie Meyer always seems surprised that people say Bella’s reception at her new school is unrealistic since it is something she based on one of her own experiences. I think she missed the flaws in using it in the book, though.
Her experience was moving to a new city for college. The people are generally more mature. Also, the school she attended is well known for couples finding each other and marrying. Guys are looking and girls sometimes attend just to earn their M.R.S. degree. (Yes, people call it that.) I’m not sure how it is now, but girls used to quit school after they got married. High school is very different from college.

Valid points across the board, except one lol I went to a small town highschool in rural Canada (the type of area where some students would occasionally drive their four-wheelers or tractors to school) our student body was maybe 250 students at most. Everyone knew everyone, because it was a small town. The parents of the students grew up with each other, and their parents etc... If you were the new kid in school, you were the bright and shiny new toy. Especially if you were a pretty girl - you would most definitely be the fixation of most of the boys in the school - and all of the guys would have been fawning over you lol So that part actually is very relatable to people who went to small town highschool.

Okay, I think the covers are the best thing about Twilight. They're simple and kind of captivating in their simplicity. The apple traditionally represents temptation, and you bite into an apple the way a vampire would bite into your neck. This would be a great piece of symbolism if Twilight were actually about a girl who falls in love with a terrifying monster, and has to reconcile her desire for him with her fear of the tangible danger he puts her in.
    But it's not.

(in my version she values her humanity and she's the one who wants to stay a human and he's the one who wants her to get turned and that's what breaks them up not some contrived for her safety thing.) then have to go home and hide her transformation.

I agree. I've seen her in other movies and she's pretty good. The problem in this case is the source material. Bella in the book is really closed up and conceals her emotions all the time (I assume to win edgy points or something), so Stewart did the same thing. Same thing happened in the Hunger Games, where the protagonist hid her emotions, so did the actress and people thought she was terrible.
As for the Snow White movie, it tried to use the fame of Twilight to lure its audience in.

It's too bad he didn't audition for Game of Thrones cause he'd be a good wildling or if Alfie Allen didn't get the part I could see him as Theon Greyjoy. Or maybe for new Star Wars trilogy or stories he'd have fit right in in Rogue One or the Han Solo film. Or honestly anything else would be better than this.

I think everyone's high school experience is different. My elementary school was a lot like that- everyone just wanted to be nice and inclusive. I think it's just that the environment Meyer was raised in was an overall positive and inviting one, and most Americans may not identify with that. I've seen similar portrayals of American high schools in other mediums and nobody complained though, so I don't know.

I wouldn't say every high school is perfect or horrible. For my high school, everyone seemed pretty cool. I never witnessed any bullying nor was I bullied. I don't think everyone was as nice as depicted in the movie, but people at my school were normal kids. The most bad I can think is in regards to a rival school, like taunting or something like that. And when I came back from Grad night, some cars got graffitied. Then again, I did keep to myself mostly, so if there were more bad things about my high school, I wasn't aware. I did have personal stuff going on, and I wasn't the most social person then, just hung out with my sister and a friend.

That's all beside the fact I got screwed out of applying to universities early because my GPA was intentionally skewed to be too low (they're supposed to be rounded to the nearest tenth, which would have made mine 3.0; they didn't round, and I got 2.988).

Don't feel too bad. At least you realized it was bad right away.
Besides most, if not all the defenders grew up, realized how bad it was, and moved on to better things, I would know because I'm one of them.
I was a tween/early teen when I was into it and I'll admit I fell hard and fast for it for awhile. It distracted me when I needed a distraction, gave me something to think about aside from School and Girl Scouts, and kept me actually reading after I ran out of Harry Potter books and before the Hunger Games were a thing.
But thank the lucky stars a friend of mine just flat out told me it was was bad. I had a few weeks of resistance, (I mean come on you'd be a little pissed if your friend said the thing you loved sucks.) But then she made me watch the original Star Wars and reread Harry Potter so I'd get a dose of good fiction, and I realized she was right.
I ended up deleting the movies and ripping up books and used the paper as pulp in art class when we made recycled paper art, (bit extreme I know, but I was a stupid teenage girl who thought she was being all edgy and making a statement or something IDK).
Soon enough I found Marvel and have been a fan ever since.
Twilight was simply an embarrassing footnote of my pubescent years. We've all got them.

But now as an adult, I just riff this hunk of trash...Though, I don't like riffing often, since it's boring as hell, so I mainly stick with dubbed 80s Voltron and The Room. To add on to the discussion more, I have an online friend who went to the same university Meyer went to and had this to say, "The college is extremely conservative and religious where you have huge numbers of college guys served religious missions and attend church every Sunday. For a guy here to push a girl for sex is taboo. However, to meet and marry her in under six months to have sex with her is not. On top of that, if a woman gets an engineering degree, people will start questioning why you even bother since you should be in the home and let the men do that work. As you can probably guess, sexism is a issue in the culture that influenced Meyer. I think this is why Ms. Meyer doesn't see anything wrong with how weak she has made her female characters. You can only live in a sexist environment for so long before you either protest and try to change it or start to hate your own gender. I think she chose the latter option."
As a full disclaimer, I'm not American, so I can't completely confirm without a doubt that is what happened here. At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if her environment had some influence on Twilight. Either way, I'm glad I never went to a college like that, because I would've dropped out or went insane if I had to deal with fuckwits like that on a daily bases.

I couldn't get through the first chapter without giving up, and in the end I just accepted the F. No amount of academic pressure was going to make me read those truly God Awful, dime store romance/fantasy trash. I'm more surprised that it wasn't kept in the horror section, I could read like a poorly kept together stalker fiction.

If I were in your shoes, I would’ve done the report… and write about how bad that book was! I usually hate writing, but I would use that assignment as an excuse to rip that waste of ink and paper a new hole! I shall use the most creative of phrases and clauses to rant about the slow-as-molasses pacing, the beings that are only characters in name, the lack of story, and the screwed up romance! And it would be the most fun I ever have writing something, EVER! And if that “teacher” starts to hate me because of what I said about her precious romance novel, very well then, hate me! See if I care! I’ll be hailed as a hero by everyone else in the class who has some sense of quality when it comes to entertainment!
On a side note, I don’t have to worry about reading that waste of space. If I remember correctly, my mother watched that film, possibly out of curiosity, while we were on an airplane, during an eight hour flight. While I was forced to catch glimpses of it, it did give me the advantage of knowing the plot beats, so I can cut the middle man out, and get straight into burning that thing! All it cost me was eight hours of nausea! Possibly because of turbulence mixed with the awful film.

I'm sorry but I don't remember high school love being like THAT.

comparing Twilight to meine komf does not really work as meine komf actually had thought put into when it was written and is a interesting read.

+Horned marten good point. Hitler might have been a madman, but Meyer is just mad.

+Horned marten The funny thing is if you read what the Third Right actually believed in and was pursuing, it reads as a really stupid D&D campaign.

      Actually, „Mein Kampf” isn’t a very well-written book either.

Horned marten Of course it is an interesting read. It took a part in making history, after all. A horrible, bloody history but history nonetheless. However, outside of its content, the book is really poorly written.

There is only one good thing I like and that is Jessica (Played by Anna Kendrick). Not just because Anna Kendrick is hot, it's because Jessica is a more identifiable and likeable character. Why can't she be the star?

I honestly ate that people hate on Kristin Stewart for this role. She had to present a dull character and that's what she did

It wasn't high school but when I changed schools in junior high from a very large one to a tiny school in an even smaller town-everyone took notice of me. Everyone was uber nice and wanted to know everything about me. This all died down after the first few weeks, but knowing this, I felt the book had it spot on. In a small town nothing new happens often so when a new person shows up the people treat them like a new shiny toy. Forks is described as a small town. Old one of the only things Myers got right in my opinion.

To be honest, after watching some reviews about Fifty Shades of Physical and Emotional Abuse, I actually think that Twilight is ... "okay" in comparison. I mean, it's awfully bad, no doubt there, but mostly harmless. Could be even fun to watch the movie to laugh with some friends. But about this 'fanfiction' you just can't laugh. This is ... terribly dangerous, to say the least.

I'm actually writing a reworking of Twilight. It's also going to be a sorta crossover with Imfamous with the powers and such. But I actually came up with a way to keep the diamond skin idea but also make it scary.
So yeah Bright and direct sunlight causes a glimmer shine (not as sparkily) but....since they say their skin is diamond, why not have it when they're in the sun there's an odd beauty if Glanced at or at a distance, maybe say....to attract someone close. But then when they are close they see the terrifying sight of the vampires skeleton inside. And maybe Vampire skeletons could look more monstrous than humans, such as "hiding the monster within."
